Hall of Merit: 1942 Ballot

Now that the holidays are over, let’s get back to business!

Bill Terry  is the big newbie this “year.” Will Firpo Marberry be deemed ballot worthy by anyone?

Top returnees: Dazzy Vance (looking good!), Eppa Rixey Joe Sewell, Clark Griffith, Hughie Jennings, Tommy Leach, George Sisler and Jake Beckley.

Hall of Merit: The Hall of Merit’s 2005 HOF Picks: Boggs, Blyleven, Sandberg, Gossage and Trammell!

With a total 28 ballots cast, we decided (following HOF ballot procedures) that Wade Boggs (unanimously!), Ryne Sandberg, Bert Blyleven, Rich “Goose” Gossage and Alan Trammell were more than qualified to be elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame this week. Hopefully, the BBWAA will emulate our correct picks. :-)

Thanks for participating, guys!

Durability aside, there weren’t too many pitchers greater than him.

An interesting career that deserves some scrutiny from us. That’s the Buzz that I’ve been hearing, anyway.

Hall of Merit: 1941 Ballot Results: The Babe and the Rajah Belt Their Way Into the Hall of Merit!

In his first year of eligibility, Babe Ruth (who many think is the greatest player of all-time)  became the fourth unanimous selection in HoM history (Cy Young, Honus Wagner and Walter Johnson being the other three).

In also his first year of eligibility, second base legend Rogers Hornsby earned the most points (1,196) and highest percentage of votes (95.83%) of any second-place finisher up to this point to win the second slot for induction this “year.”

The combined point total of both inductees (2.491) is a new HoM record for a two-inductee “year,” too.

Newbie Dazzy Vance seems certain of induction next “year” with his strong third-place showing.

Rounding out the top-ten returnees are: Eppa Rixey, Joe Sewell, Clark Griffith, Tommy Leach, George Sisler, Hughie Jennings and Jake Beckley.
