Primate Studies: Loser Scores 2015

The World Series is over, and that means it’s time for my annual foray into the World of the Losers.

The fine print:

Bill James came up with Loser Scores after the 2010 season, in an effort to measure how the Pirates’ string of losing seasons compared to other lengthy stretches of bad baseball. I’ve updated the totals every year since then.

You compute Loser Scores in this fashion:

Hall of Merit: Most Meritorious Player: 1910 Ballot

For 1910, each voter should rank the top 10 players from all leagues combined.

Balloting is scheduled to close at 4pm EDT on 4 November 2015.

Anyone can vote, even if you do not normally participate in Hall of Merit discussions. If have never participated in an MMP election, just post a preliminary ballot in the discussion thread by 3 November 2015.

Jim's Lab Notes: Sorry for the Downtime This Morning

Sorry for the downtime. Our server host migrated our server to newer hardware. The downtime was supposed to be minimal but the changeover took longer than expected. Their timing wasn’t the best either. Please let me know if you notice anything wonky.

A number of people have complained about slow load times for pages at different times during the day. After spending some time monitoring the server a little more closely the last few days, I’ve narrowed down the cause to a few Mysql queries that have been locking some of the database’s biggest tables.
