Hall of Merit: Alejandro Oms

“El Caballero” was a talented and exciting centerfielder from the twenties.

Hall of Merit: Pennants Added Pitchers (updated for the 1949 Ballot)

Here is the thread for the pitchers. I’ve set this up to divide them by era, but if you think I made a bad judgement call, or having a better idea for arranging them, please let me know.

Hall of Merit: Pennants Added 2.0 (updated for the 1949 ballot)

I’ve updated the Win Shares version of Pennants Added. For an explanation of the methods, try this thread.

I’m going to list players by position. If someone is missing that you’d like to see added, just let me know.

One other fix for 2.0 - I’ve updated the team games to team decisions. Since we are using Win Shares, it doesn’t matter if a team played 158 games, if they went 82-70, the player’s total should be based on 152 prorated to 162.

There will be a separate thread for pitchers. Click into the discussion for the results.

Hall of Merit: 1939 Election Results: Faber and Carey Are Welcomed By the Hall of Merit!

1939 goes down in HoM history as the election with the least consensus for the winning candidates. Newly eligible White Sox hurling star Red Faber was tops among the 53 voters with only 46.31% of the vote. Right on his heels (45.6% of the vote), in his fifth year of eligibility, was Pittsburgh outfield great Max Carey.

Lip Pike’s long electoral journey is highlighted this “year” by earning the most “elect me” votes (285) and the most #1 votes (9) of any other player. Will he finally make it in his 43rd “year” as a candidate in 1940?

Rounding out the top ten were returnees Joe Sewell (his first time on the ballot), Hughie Jennings, Eppa Rixey (another newbie), Clark Griffith, George SislerJake Beckley and Rube Waddell.

Hall of Merit: URGENT PLEASE READ - Issues with Red Faber’s RSI record

Red Faber’s RSI record on Chris J.‘s website is incorrect.

http://runsupportindex.blogspot.com/2004/06/red-faber.html

The total is listed at 257-171, but when you add the numbers, it should be 255-212. Faber’s real record was 254-213, so the second record makes a bit more sense. If you used this data in your vote for Faber (I did), you probably need to modify your ballot.

I’m trying to think of a reasonable way to do this.

I would say, post the modified ballots here, and please give the post # of your ballot on the original thread.

I think we should leave the election open until Tuesday evening to allow everyone a chance to see this post and make any modifications.

If you voted for Faber without using Chris J.‘s RSI as an input, it’s probably a good idea to drop a quick post here saying your ballot is okay - it wouldn’t hurt anything.

With an election this tight, we don’t want to elect the wrong person based on faulty data. It’s better to take a day and get it right, as opposed to making a mistake we can’t correct . . .
