Sox Therapy: Let’s Get World Serious!

So here we go.  The rematch 102 years in the making as the Dodgers look to get revenge for the pain inflicted by Babe Ruth (imagine waiting a century to overcome some kind of pain inflicted by Babe Ruth, losers).  This should be a humdinger of a series with the two best teams in their respective leagues in my opinion doing battle.  There are plenty of questions worth considering;

1. Will Mookie Betts play second base?

This is going to get a fair amount of attention but I suspect it is not ...

Sox Therapy: American League Champions!!!!

The title says it all.  They dominated the American League for 162 games and now they’ve laid waste to two 100 win teams going 7-2 including an unbelievable 5-0 on the road.  And now 5 days off before hosting game one.

Not a lot to say right now.  Jackie Bradley Jr. is a deserving MVP, not only did he have big numbers he had them at big moments.  Beyond that, it was great to see redemption for guys like David Price who was BRILLIANT and Craig Kimbrel who pitched as well as he has in a ...

Sox Therapy: ALCS Thoughts

Not sure you’ve heard but the Boston Red Sox are in the American League Championship Series!  Yeah, that’s got a nice ring to it for the three time defending AL East Champions.  The path to a World Series doesn’t get much easier as the Houston Astros come to town to start things off tonight.  Captain Obvious stopped by to note that the Astros are really really really good.  But of course so are the 108+3 win Red Sox so I expect a tight, well played series.  The nice and fun thing about this ...

Sox Therapy: Damage Done

Bring on the Astros!!!

Good lord I’m not going to sleep tonight.  That game certainly was the opposite of what I expected, the bullpen was brilliant except for Craig Kimbrel but he was good enough…just.  Some quick notes as the strains of New York, New York keeps pounding in the Sox clubhouse.

- Alex Cora 1, Us Idiots on the Internet 0 - Ian Kinsler and Eduardo Nunez both had solid games and Nunez made a heck of a play to end it.  Full credit to Steve Pearce for a terrific stretch on that ...

Sox Therapy: Sox Therapy ALDS Preview

So here we go.  Before I dig into this a bit let me say this; I have not been looking forward to this somewhat predictable series all year.  I’m sure it will be a great series as both teams are excellent but the ancillary BS that comes with Sox-Yankees saps some of the fun out of it for me.  The lunkheads on both sides come out of the woodwork, the media can’t come up with a story line less than half a century old, the individual games are often routs and even the close games are often ...

Gonfalon Cubs: Now what?

I’m hungover and at work.  This is probably going to be an incoherent mess.  I probably will end up disagreeing with some or all of this, probably sooner than later.  However, might as well start thinking about how the Cubs are going to approach this offseason.

The easy route is making some small changes around the edges - maybe splurge on a reliever or two, bring a couple more long shot rebound types - and talk about being healthier and improving from within.  There’s probably some merit to ...

Sox Therapy: WOW

Over the next 11 to 31 days there will be plenty of time for rending of garments, soiling of drawers and general malaise and agita.  But for now, and the next four days it’s a time to sit back and revel in what we just watched the Boston Red Sox do.  The difference between 107 and 108 is small (1) but for me personally that number of 108 is the one that separates the historic from the great.  The number that something truly remarkable has been achieved.  If you win a series, typically taking ...
