Sox Therapy: Musta Got Dealt

It’s ain’t supposed to be sad though you might feel it that way. It’s a song about desperation. Every now and then we do get desperate.

Should Boston have waited to trade Clay Buchholz until a team got desperate late in spring training?

Y’know, it seems on this site we often talk about this very scenario, maybe every year. Hey, maybe a team will suffer an injury in the rotation. If a team gets desperate before opening day, or before ...

Hall of Merit: Mock Hall of Fame Ballot 2017

IMPORTANT: Please read:

This election should follow BBWAA rules, not Hall of Merit rules. However, we hope to see only players that each voter feels belong on their ballots. Leaving 1st-year candidates off your ballot is also frowned upon. IOW, we would like to see an absence of some of the silliness that permeates Hall of Fame voting by the writers.

The election will end Thursday on December 22, 2016 (3 PM EST). Results will be posted a short time later.

Please don’t post any vote tallies ...

Sox Therapy: The Magnificent Seven

Barring a major move at Designated Hitter it now appears the one significant off-season question for Dave Dombrowski and the Boston Red Sox is what to do about the starting rotation.  As currently set the roster has seven Major League starting pitchers;

David Price
Cy Young
Chris Sale
Eduardo Rodriguez*
Steven Wright
Clay Buchholz
Drew Pomeranz
* - I remembered him this time!

By all accounts Double D’s phone started ringing roughly nanoseconds after the Sale trade.  With pitching being scarce ...

Gonfalon Cubs: Cubs roster update - post Winter Meetings

Not surprisingly, the Cubs have been relatively quiet so far this offseason.  After a couple moves, I thought it’d be worth putting the current projected 25 man roster on paper to see where things stand.

C: Contreras, Montero
1b: Rizzo
2b: Zobrist, Baez
SS: Russell
3b: Bryant
OF: Heyward, Schwarber, Almora, Jay

SP: Lester, Arrieta, Hendricks, Lackey, Montgomery
CL: Davis
RP: Rondon, Strop, Edwards, Grimm, Uehara

I see those 22 as locks.  Maybe Duensing is a lock, but I don’t think $2mil is a ...

Sox Therapy: The Roster 1.0

So, how was your Tuesday?  Villageidiom was touching on the Sox’ roster situation a bit before everything went insane with the Sale acquisition and I think it is something that warrants some consideration.

With that in mind, here is version 1.0 of the 2017 roster with assorted thoughts, notes, comments and random musings;
