The Blogpark in Arlington — Where Rangers Fans Come to Pray for Pitching Wednesday, December 14, 2005Learning Corner: UZROne of our goals at the Blogpark is to bring a variety of insights to fans who come here. Baseball Think Factory is a big place, and there is a tendency among regulars to assume that others know and understand which acronyms stand for which statistics, and further, what those statistics really purport to measure in the first place. The Learning Corner will occasionally bring you articles describing the methodology behind a particular statistic. When the article is a Baseball Think Factory original, the comments included are an invaluable resource for further discussion. If the article doesn’t have comments attached, we hope that you leave your comments and questions in the thread here, and we assure you that every effort will be taken to provide whatever you need. The first edition of Learning Corner features UZR (Ultimate Zone Rating), a fielding statistic created by Mitchel Lichtman, better known as “mgl” at Baseball Think Factory. It’s a two-part series written in 2003. UZR numbers are no longer posted in whole on Baseball Think Factory, due to Mitchel’s obligations to keep some information proprietary; however, you will often see UZR numbers cited in threads here. Presenting both parts of the series: |
