Smart move if just to get fans in the seats. There is no reason he cannot have a Greg Maddux-last-years-in-Atlanta type of period to finish his career.

The good part is that Millwood can be good. And overall for a top FA signing, he's much better than CHP.

But at the Texas home ball park, I am hoping Millwood is able to shake off the occassional hr blast.

Yeah, I think this move will help the fans realize they're trying to win. I was happy they at least tried to get Beckett too. I hate the Eaton/Young deal, but I'm glad they're doing things to try to win in the next few years when they've got their core locked up.

Yep, I think this is a pretty reasonable move in this market. The question I have is where the Rangers are on their success cycle? Should they be making a push? Not watching the team closely, I would think so.

Also, I think we need to correct our ideas of what 'market value' is. Because obviously most of us, myself included, are just simply wrong.

Yes, I would agree. Of course Oakland and Anaheim look to be strong for the next few years, but the Rangers should be trying to make a World Series push the next 3 years with Young, Teixeira, and basically *every* key piece locked up for 2-4 years. Also, their best prospects finished last year in AAA and AA.

It depends. I think if those guys were both FA's this year, the Millwoods and Burnetts of the world would have a lower salary because there would be more supply of good FA SP.

Nevertheless, they'd both be getting incredible money.

Santana has been very durable, has great K/IP and ERA+ numbers, and would just be turning 27. I think he'd probably get 6/95 or so.

Halladay is a little older, and hasn't been quite as durable (but is a IP machine when healthy). I think Halladay would get 6/85 or thereabouts.

Of course, these are just my own wild guesses.

Much better than last year, but honestly, one has to 'wish' or 'hope' this staff is consistently good enough, to get Texas the whole way through a season. Pitchers here in Dallas (moved back here in August) are challenged by the ballpark's dimensions, the hot and humid summer, and by Buck's managerial style. For me the jury is out and I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Not only that, but one has to hope and wish that something develops in the back half of the rotation. That's why I'm somewhat getting excited about the possibility of Clemens. Eaton as a third starter makes me much happier than as a 2nd, Padilla as a 4th starter is a great value, and instead of both Loe and Dominguez having to have some success, only one does. I'm not the world's biggest Clemens fan (I've discussed before that I only dislike one fellow Longhorn, Clemens, and abjectly detest one other, Simms), but man, he would be a huge relief to me at the top of the rotation.

Agent says 7/years 20mil per....everyone leaves the room except Minaya,Cashman,Lucchino and Colletti.....Santana has no comment for the media...a week later Minaya and Cashman are the only guys left in the room...Agent says talks are progressing...nothing happens but the whole world knows it is a Mets/Yankees festival....Santana is seen playing tennis at Flushing Meadow and it is reported he enjoys pitching with air traffic in proximity to the ball park....and he signs a 5 year 100 million dollar deal with the Mets...his agent says it wasn't the money but "it was a variety of factors" that led to the signing.....the ny post has a picture taken after the alcs in 2004...R.Levine tearing up....
