Anybody else think that Ozzie overmanaged his bullpen in the eighth inning? Why didn't he just bring in Cotts when he lifted Garcia? And then with Thornton pitching pretty effectively why did he get lifted for Politte? I haven't checked but is it that the other guys needed work?

Boy, has Ozuna been the center of attention this year or what? The run scored on the wild pitch to win the game last week and now a game-tying homer with two out in the bottom of the ninth? wow. Of course, his caught stealing cost the Sox two runs against the Tribe yesterday, but still . . .

Tribe bats ripped a hole in the Athletics and Minnesota has gotten back-to-back games in which they've pitched well AND hit well.

And, how about those Tigers!?!

2003 Royals. They'll probably hang around, but I doubt they win more than 85.

2003 Royals.

I hate when my team becomes an example of why to not get your hopes up.

And, how about those Tigers!?!

The pitching so far has been well beyond anyone's reasonable expectations.

This year's Tigers are way better than the 2003 Royals, but they are also in a much, much better Central Division than the 2003 Royals were.

I would agree with this. After all, a lot of people on BTF were saying that same thing about the White Sox last year.

2003 Royals.

That's what Joe Sheehan said about the White Sox around this time last year. I agree with Alex Gordon's #1 Fan.

Last night was one of the first nights where I thought the Sox were completely lucky to win. As for the Tigers, Ordonez will be hurt soon and the pitching will come back to earth a bit....but they appear to be a pretty solid team.

As for the Tigers, Ordoñez will be hurt soon

On what basis are you predicting that? Maggs was a completely healthy player (in the majors, at least) until 2004. His knee was injured on a freak play (all too reminiscent of Ozzie Guillén and Tim Raines colliding in 1992). Then, he had a hernia last year, but returned and was effective.

Maybe the hernia is a sign of an aging player -- I don't know enough to say one way or the other -- and certainly his knee will always be a bit of a question mark in the sense that I would not want to have him under a long-term contract, but he's not J.D. Drew, either.

I agree with that asessment of Ordonez, he had two completely unrelated injuries after a solid track record of health. As a Tigers fan I'm much more concerned about Carlos Guillen, who has an almost comically bad history of injuries, and the dramatic drop off offensively between him and Infante.

Would the White Sox PLEASE LOSE A ####### GAME! :)

Go Tigers. The first decent team we've had in over a decade. But the schedule gets a lot tougher here pretty soon.

I speak on behalf of Twins, Indians, Tigers and White Sox fans everywhere when I say, "thank God for the Royals."

We could ask the Tigers to do the same. They're off to a great start.

Ordonez is 5th on the team in OPS (.861) right now. Guillen is 3rd (.936). You lose Ordonez, he gets replaced by Marcus Thames (OPS of 1.036 in limited work). You lose Guillen, he gets replaced by Infante/Santiago (OPS .657/.588 in roughly the same # of appearances Thames has).

In case you needed the numbers...

<i>On what basis are you predicting that? Maggs was a completely healthy player..<i>

It was based on nothing and really was just a throwaway comments. You're completely right about Ordonez and his injury history. That being said, I still wouldnt be shocked if I read tomorrow that Ordonez blew a hammy or something. He just doesnt seem like the same player he was a few years ago and he isnt really young.

And I love Carlos Guillen. I always wished he were on the Sox. I also felt that way when I saw Belliard when he was on the Brewers...but I digress.
   15. ASmitty Posted: May 04, 2006 at 12:03 PM (#2003742)
Exactly. Which is why when Guillen's knees/hamstring/tuberculosis flares back up it will be much more disconcerting. This is only compounded by the fact that, other than a few outfielders who are a couple of years away, the Tigers have a pretty sorry group of position prospects in the minors.

Ozzie is overmanaging his bullpen because he has no confidence in anybody out there right now....neither do I....

Mags...I love him, and wish him well.....but I agree with the above...I would not be surprised if his leg falls off at some point....his knee injury was the same as Bo Jackson's hip injury....while medical advancements are always forthcoming, I have to believe he is playing on borrowed time, and it will eventually cut short a brilliant career...

Pablo Ozuna....you gotta love a career minor leaguer who gets on the right team and almost always comes through....pure hustle and fundamentals....
