Any theories on why Garland is the only consistent starter the Sox have? And what has happened to Neal Cotts in the bullpen? Anyone willing to offer stat crunching on how this has happened?

Honestly, random fluctuation.  That and, of course, that Garcia’s velocity is down.  He’s injured at least slightly.  Contreras doesn’t seem injured, exactly, just achy and creaky for the time being; I expect him to rebound.  Buehrle, I honestly think has just been BABIP-unlucky since June.  His total ERA for the season now is about the same as what his DIPS ERA was last season, which is how it’s “supposed” to work.  And of course Garland himself was unlucky in the first half and has rebounded fantastically, so there’s always hope of that sort of thing.  Vazquez is just a mental lost cause, I guess.  That doesn’t mean he couldn’t put it together sometime, though, since he’s had it together before.
