7 out of 10 ... hard opening schedule, that’s for sure, next week’s games against the division should help ease that a lot, or drive me right off the edge..

happy thoughts of the day: new stadium looking more likely than ever… and I got my tickets to go on a road trip to cheese-land next month.

It’s amazing they’re only 7-10 considering the pitching.  While even being pessimistic, the only lose half a run of game in offense, you’d expect them improve more than that with the rotation coming around.  Baker will probably end up closer to 4 than 3, but no way Lohse, Radke, or Silva don’t improve.

This has been a pretty depressing start to the season.  If not for two huge comebacks, this team is staring at 5-12 and already being out of the hunt.

Carlos Silva and Brad Radke have been extremely dissapointing while Kyle Lohse has been exactly what I expected.

Oh, and it only took one week for Juan Castro to turn back into a pumpkin.

My concern isn’t that the Twins are not winning games or not pitching well.  My concern is that they are falling behind in the race, like last year, and they might still not have character to overcome that, like last year.  Trailing by 6 games after playing a lot of good teams with the pitching staff falling apart isn’t a big deal.  Or at least it’s not a big deal if the team is steady and positive and waits to overcome it.  This team is better than last year’s team, and they should be able to work back.  The pitching should come back to earth.  The offense is ok, and the depth is much better than last year.  But the players need to have the right frame of mind to come back.  They have to decide to identify with last years Indians rather than last years Twins.  And the coaching staff needs to stay calm and not trying to fix things that will fix themselves.  Gardy loves to mix up the lineup, mix up the roster, and try to find and fix problems that aren’t there.  That’s not going to help this.

The big difference between this Twins team and the one you fear is this: they have already come back to beat good teams a couple of times. It’s not something they managed to do much last year and I think it bodes well for the days ahead when the schedule eases up and the pitchers yank their heads from their, um, shoulders.

If I had paid attention to the past two games, I would be at about 11.  Luckily, I’ve tuned into about 5 minutes total the past 2 days, so I can pretend none of it happened.
