AL West Champion Los Angels Anaheim of Angeles at AL East Chump New York Yankees, 7:35 PM ET on FOX

J. Washburn (0-0, NA) vs. S. Chacon (0-0, NA)
LAAoA leads 2-1.

Thanks to Randy Johnson stinking out the Stadium on Friday, the Yankees face a must-win with Shawn Chacon, whose peripherals defy his performance in pinstripes thus far.  The rainout yesterday allowed the Angles to rest Escobar, Shields and Cordova which gives them a huge advantage, but let’s face it, they have angels on their side.  Who can realistically expect to beat them?

Just a reminder...

Hope is a good thing. Maybe the best of things. And no good thing ever dies!

Go Yankees! I'd love to see the Angels win it in 5, so the Sox don't have to face Colon in game 1.

The White Sox are rooting very hard for the Yankees today. If the Yankees win tonight, whoever comes out of this series is toast in games 1 and 2 of the ALCS. Thanks to Bud and Fox.

So three games in three days in three cities doesn't appeal?

How many fans of the road team will be in Comiskey on Tuesday if the Yankees win tonight?
   5. Sometimes it Rains (sj) Posted: October 09, 2005 at 01:48 PM (#1672199)
This whole rainout thing would not have happened had Wayne Franklin not been on the roster (Wayne Franklin was responsible for over 30 games the Yankees lost).

This is the second postseason in a row the Yankees have been ###### by a rainout. After getting 2 very fortunate ones in 96.

It all comes around I guess.

This whole rainout thing would not have happened had Wayne Franklin not been on the roster (Wayne Franklin was responsible for over 30 games the Yankees lost).

I know Wayne Franklin sucks, but 30 games is a lot of blame for a guy who pitched 13 innings.
   7. Sometimes it Rains (sj) Posted: October 09, 2005 at 02:01 PM (#1672222)
His mere presence in the bullpen caused everyone else to suck a lil more than they would have normally.

Or we could blame the loss on that Yankee fan in tampa who reached over the wall to make a double a homer for that Perez character. Its all that guys fault, that guy and wayne franklin.
   8. bebop Posted: October 09, 2005 at 02:51 PM (#1672267)
The bullpen after the top 2 sucks period which is why it sucked more that RJ couldn't suck it up enough, or sucked way too much, to give us 7 innings and 5 runs which is what some aces might deliver when they don't have their best stuff/command.
   9. Sometimes it Rains (sj) Posted: October 09, 2005 at 03:18 PM (#1672293)
I don't know, that game was played under such horrible conditions it is tough to blame anyone for anything.

I wouldn't walk to the store in weather like that, I certainly wouldn't play baseball in it.

Is J#1F/Chacon#1F around?

I officially surrender my side of the bet, even now previous to hearing the UZR numbers from MGL. No way was Renteria's glove 40 runs better than Jeter's.

I await my new username.

I love the "team comparison" on the Sportline site.

Batting Average
Angels .308, Yankees .260
Edge: Angels

Opponent Batting Average
Angels .260, Yankees .308

Amazin'!

Marty Cordova is coming out of retirement to pitch for the Angels today.

The crawl on ESPN during the NLDS game is now listing Lackey as tonight's starter.
   15. Shredder Posted: October 09, 2005 at 03:52 PM (#1672365)
I haven't been able to find that information anywhere else.
   16. Shredder Posted: October 09, 2005 at 03:53 PM (#1672370)
Alright, they just anounced it. Throat infection for J-Dub.
   17. Urban Faber Posted: October 09, 2005 at 03:53 PM (#1672372)
Washburn is ill, apparently. They really don't want to start Colon, I guess. Or maybe he's back in California already.
   18. bebop Posted: October 09, 2005 at 03:54 PM (#1672375)
ESPN is scrolling Lackey vs Chacon??
   19. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: October 09, 2005 at 03:54 PM (#1672377)
Yeah, apparently Washburn had a throat infection, so Lackey getting the start on three days' rest. I suppose the Angels would prefer to start Colon on full rest but he's still in Cali
   20. Shredder Posted: October 09, 2005 at 03:55 PM (#1672380)
Colon isn't ready. Even on full rest. They asked him yesterday and his back and arm are still iffy. Said he'll be ready tomorrow, though. It was in the LA Times today.
   21. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: October 09, 2005 at 03:57 PM (#1672383)
I guess this boosts the Yankees' chances, although they seem to do poorly in big games aganist pitchers on short rest
   22. Halofan Posted: October 09, 2005 at 03:59 PM (#1672386)
Lackey, postseason, three days rest... sounds familiar...

ESPN is scrolling Lackey vs Chacon??
   24. Shredder Posted: October 09, 2005 at 04:04 PM (#1672397)
If Lackey can go five strong, it will be fantastic. I'd even take him for four, Santana for two, then Shields, Escobar, and Frankie as needed.
   25. bebop Posted: October 09, 2005 at 04:08 PM (#1672413)
Oh Atlanta!
   26. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: October 09, 2005 at 04:15 PM (#1672443)
Well, starters on short rest in the playoffs are generally fairly mediocre (I think BPro did a study on this once) but I'm still nervous
   27. zoperino,if youre not into the whole brevity thing Posted: October 09, 2005 at 04:15 PM (#1672444)
Well, the Yanks deserved a break.

Has a 1st and 2nd inning been this important in a playoff game for some time? With the Yankees concentrated 1-5 lineup (1-6 with so-hot-right-now Robby Cano), and with Lackey on short rest and the Angels bullpen being typically awesome, if the Yankes don't get runs early, they're done for.

   41. SG in ATL Posted: October 09, 2005 at 07:13 PM (#1673084)
Vaux's reverse jinx attempts are feeble compared to those of Yankee fans. Nice try though.

The Yankees game won't start until 7:55 SG. All you're missing is more Kennedy and Zelasko.
   47. Richard Gadsden Posted: October 09, 2005 at 07:29 PM (#1673118)
I don't get Zelasko today; I get Johnny Gould and whoever else is presenting on five.
   48. SG in ATL Posted: October 09, 2005 at 07:32 PM (#1673123)
Oh, WTF. The start time is now 8:15?
   49. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: October 09, 2005 at 07:34 PM (#1673124)
Wow, really?

FOX pushes back the start time of a MLB playoff game.

Next: World domination?
   50. EB Posted: October 09, 2005 at 07:38 PM (#1673126)
The listing says that baseball tonight is on ESPN2, but they're actually showing poker.
   51. DTS Posted: October 09, 2005 at 07:41 PM (#1673130)
Oh, WTF. The start time is now 8:15?

I guess it's because the Broncos/Redskins -- and that might go into OT.
   52. Sometimes it Rains (sj) Posted: October 09, 2005 at 07:44 PM (#1673133)
I am at work and will not be able to catch this game.

I already know the Yankees are going to lose, and they are probably going to lose to a better team. I just think it is a shame to see weather play such a factor in such important games, perhaps they should play the game inside, in a baseball arena? Like they have in tampa
   53. Severiano Flitcraft Posted: October 09, 2005 at 07:44 PM (#1673135)
I wouldn't be surprised if FOX doesn't want the game to go up against Sunday night football--that's good competition for the sports watcher demographic. They probably got Budzilla to agree to show the game on tape delay Tuesday night.
   54. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: October 09, 2005 at 07:48 PM (#1673136)
Is the game going to get called? I hope not

   57. Bob "Jugement" Dernier Posted: October 09, 2005 at 07:54 PM (#1673140)
It's not raining. There's a delay 'cause some FOX people are down on the field seeing if they can get the Yankees and Angels to wear football helmets and pretend they are the late NFL game.
   58. Vaux, A.B.D. Posted: October 09, 2005 at 07:55 PM (#1673142)
It's not Steinbrenner's pitcher who's sick...
   59. SG in ATL Posted: October 09, 2005 at 07:58 PM (#1673145)
I guess the 8:15 start was just a vicious rumor.
   60. Bunny Vincennes Posted: October 09, 2005 at 07:58 PM (#1673146)
Then what is the problem, SJ? Even if it is, both teams have to play in it. Get over it.

   62. SG in ATL Posted: October 09, 2005 at 08:02 PM (#1673149)
Good start by Chacon. Give us another 7 like that and we'll be able to go to the 8th tied.

Man Lackey is one of the most disgusting creatures I've ever seen. Popping, pertruding moles colliding with his 5 o'clock shadow that is squished toward the center of his doubly bridged nose, that curls his top lip off as he spits and snorts all over the place, topping it off with a curly mullet.

   81. SG in ATL Posted: October 09, 2005 at 08:24 PM (#1673185)
The great thing about the Yankee lineup is if 1-6 doesn't do anything, they have 7-9 to do even less.
   82. Gold Star for Robothal Posted: October 09, 2005 at 08:24 PM (#1673186)
Or that Matsui starting his pinstripes career in his prime is somehow comparable to Dimaggio's success at the start of his career . . .

Man Lackey is looking pretty on.

Prolly way back now, I am just saying I would rather not have had things decided on flukes caused by nature.

For example, when the OC threw the relay 110 feet past home plate, that was clearly weather driven.

That ain't right.
