AL Wild Card NY Yankees (94-68) at AL Central Champs Cleveland Indians (96-66) - 6:30 PM EDT

NYY: Wang (19-7, 3.70 ERA)
CLE: Sabathia (19-7, 3.21 ERA)

Apparently, a cameraman - either from YES or a Cleveland station tried to run down Doug Misspelling before the game. I realize its a big game, but wouldn’t you want to go after a bigger name if you want to hurt the Yankees? Like maybe strangling A-Rod with one of Steven Tyler’s mic scarves from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame?

Ah, playoff chatter. I'd always heard it existed, but just assumed it was a myth.

Go Tribe.

Maybe he's a Jason Giambi fan!

strangling A-Rod with one of Steven Tyler’s mic scarves

Sure if Arod says " I am off to fame and glory" right before that
   4. Mattbert Posted: October 04, 2007 at 05:54 PM (#2560392)
Lucky for Mientkiewicz that his ankle was shielded from further damage by Jeter's clutch protective aura.
   5. Gamingboy Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:18 PM (#2560412)
Going after Mientwhatzhisface to stop the Yankees is like trying to conquer the World by focusing on New Zealand.
   6. Tony H. Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:40 PM (#2560423)
Well, that's not a particularly good way to start.
   7. Sean McNally Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:40 PM (#2560424)
Jesus saves!
   8. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:40 PM (#2560425)
How about a decent ####### replay, you idiots?
   9. PJ Martinez Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:41 PM (#2560427)
Did they get that right? I couldn't tell.
   10. Dan Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:41 PM (#2560428)
What a useless replay.
   11. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:41 PM (#2560429)
CC Sabathia really shouldn't be giving up a HR to Johnny Damon.
   12. Sean McNally Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:41 PM (#2560430)
It looked fair on radio PJ
   13. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:43 PM (#2560432)
Well, at least we had Dugout Cam and Follow Damon Around the Bases Cam.
   14. Softball-Playing Human Refuses to Be Walked Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:44 PM (#2560433)
Abreu batting third against the lefty?
   15. Sean McNally Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:44 PM (#2560434)
Yankee lefties vs. LHP this year…

Cano - .328/.374/.490
Matsui - .274/.363/.451
Abreu - 262/.329/.349
Damon - .281/.353/.353

That’s not horrible.

Doug M. - .231/.344/.269

That sucks.
   16. Dan Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:45 PM (#2560436)
I'd qualify Abreu's numbers as pretty horrible too, for a corner OF with shitty defense.
   17. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:45 PM (#2560437)
Woooo!!!! Damon!!!

(Just got home)
   18. Dan Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:46 PM (#2560438)
Sabathia being squeezed there, though to be fair both pitches were close.
   19. Softball-Playing Human Refuses to Be Walked Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:47 PM (#2560439)
What I mean is, I'd have thought you'd want A-Rod third against a lefty instead of another lefty hitter.
   20. Tony H. Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:47 PM (#2560440)
Ball 4 looked closer than ball 3, but they were both very close.
   21. Tony H. Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:49 PM (#2560445)
not good
   22. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:49 PM (#2560446)
Since it hardly makes a difference, they're better off just alternating left and right so they don't give Wedge a tactical advantage matching up with the bullpen.
   23. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:49 PM (#2560447)
Anyone watching this online? I am getting a audio/video mis-sync..
   24. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:49 PM (#2560448)
WOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! YANKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES!!!!!!!!! WOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!! Now here's another hit (walk) A-Rod!! We outta here, baby!!!
   25. Chip Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:52 PM (#2560451)
Another ace who struggles in the first inning?
   26. Sean McNally Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:53 PM (#2560452)
They more or less do that Greg... just only Cano and Matsui are back to back
   27. Lassus Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:54 PM (#2560453)
I thought Matsui was going to be sitting the first game? What happened?
   28. Dan Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:54 PM (#2560455)
No radar gun for this game for TBS?
   29. Chip Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:54 PM (#2560457)
Strike two to Matsui looked like the two outside pitches that were called balls to Abreu.
   30. Tony H. Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:55 PM (#2560458)
All right, good job limiting the damage.
   31. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:55 PM (#2560462)
33 pitches..wow!

But still only 1-0. Lets go Grady!
   32. Lassus Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:56 PM (#2560463)
CC seemed to have gotten it back, which may not be good news for the Yankees.
   33. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:56 PM (#2560464)
####, I feel like the Yanks are going to regret not getting more there. I was going to say at least we got the PC up, but thinking about the Indians' BP lefties, I'm not so sure that's a good thing.
   34. Dan Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:58 PM (#2560465)
Good start for Wang
   35. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:58 PM (#2560466)
Ugh...
   36. Chip Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:58 PM (#2560467)
Good start.
   37. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:58 PM (#2560468)
Wait, did that hit him?
   38. Rafael Bellylard (p8p) Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:58 PM (#2560470)
Isn't that how the White Sox started the 1919 World Series?
   39. Tony H. Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:58 PM (#2560469)
he was obviously trying to ruin grady sizemore's ankle
   40. PJ Martinez Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:59 PM (#2560471)
It appeared to hit him on the back foot. Not positive, though.
   41. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:59 PM (#2560472)
Wang-ian!
   42. Dan Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:59 PM (#2560473)
Well, now it really IS a good start for Wang.
   43. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: October 04, 2007 at 06:59 PM (#2560474)
They more or less do that Greg...

I know. I was responding to the idea that the Rod should have been batting third against a lefty.
   44. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:00 PM (#2560475)
Hit the top of his shoe..

GRRRR, you had to run Grady!
   45. Chip Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:00 PM (#2560476)
No, no: two steps to his right is where he can't get it. One step he can do.
   46. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:00 PM (#2560477)
Is hafner healthy?
   47. Dan Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:01 PM (#2560478)
Hafner has a beard?
   48. Tony H. Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:01 PM (#2560479)
Is hafner healthy?

Other than his habitual elbow problems, I believe he is. He hit really well in September.
   49. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:03 PM (#2560482)
WTF is this music?
   50. Bernal Diaz has an angel on his shoulder. Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:03 PM (#2560483)
Hafner is healthy and he has a beard. Victor is healthy too.
   51. Bernal Diaz has an angel on his shoulder. Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:04 PM (#2560485)
Is Gordon Gund in the box behind home?
   52. PepTech Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:06 PM (#2560486)
So on GameCast, where it says stuff like "Martinez after an 0-2 count", does that really mean "ON an 0-2 count" or does it include what he does after 0-2 becomes 1-2 or 2-2. Question mark.
   53. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:06 PM (#2560488)
Viktor!

Takes Vodka shot
   54. Chip Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:07 PM (#2560489)
What was that Posada?
   55. Urban Faber Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:07 PM (#2560490)
And we're tied.
   56. Bernal Diaz has an angel on his shoulder. Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:07 PM (#2560491)
Tied.
   57. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:07 PM (#2560492)
Eh...
   58. Zeba Zeba Eata Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:08 PM (#2560493)
Jeteresque by Cano
   59. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:08 PM (#2560494)
Should Cano have had that one?
   60. Lassus Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:08 PM (#2560496)
Well now this game just got a lot more interesting. No play at home? Odd.
   61. Bernal Diaz has an angel on his shoulder. Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:08 PM (#2560497)
How can you not try to throw Pronk out at the plate?
   62. Chip Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:09 PM (#2560498)
No bite on Wang's FB right now.
   63. PepTech Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:10 PM (#2560499)
Hey, Hafner is faster than Edgar Martinez...
   64. Bernal Diaz has an angel on his shoulder. Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:10 PM (#2560501)
That pitch was called a ball for CC.
   65. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:10 PM (#2560502)
So if Mussina ever pitches to Garko, will it be the first Stanford to Stanford in the Major Leagues?
   66. Urban Faber Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:10 PM (#2560503)
What was the point of having Froemming's crew in Milwaukee if he was going to work this series?
   67. Chip Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:10 PM (#2560504)
Got away with a terrible slider on 2-0. Also wasn't a strike, but was called one.
   68. Bernal Diaz has an angel on his shoulder. Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:10 PM (#2560505)
I am sure Mussina faced Jeffery Hammonds at some point.
   69. Lassus Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:11 PM (#2560506)
I have really loved TBS in comparison to FOX, but they are showing some replay weakness in this game. I would like to see what developed there with the throw and non-throw of Abreu and Cano there, respectively.
   70. John DiFool2 Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:11 PM (#2560507)
2-0 was a ball, 2-2 was a strike.
   71. Chip Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:11 PM (#2560508)
Froemming flinched on the 2-2, but it was a definite ball on the graphic.
   72. PJ Martinez Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:11 PM (#2560509)
"2-2 was a strike."

Not really.
   73. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:11 PM (#2560510)
Froemming really sucks
   74. Bernal Diaz has an angel on his shoulder. Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:12 PM (#2560511)
I could be wrong.
   75. Urban Faber Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:13 PM (#2560512)
I don't think they had a play on Hafner.
   76. Lassus Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:13 PM (#2560513)
A umpire does not "suck" if every call doesn't go your way.
   77. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:13 PM (#2560514)
Awesome.
   78. Urban Faber Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:13 PM (#2560515)
So who's the Yankees' long man?
   79. Dan Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:14 PM (#2560516)
There was no play on Hafner with him running on contact with 2 outs.
   80. Dr Love Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:14 PM (#2560517)
"This might be all the offense you'll see tonight"

I got news for you Bob, at least one more run will be scored tonight, I guarantee it.
   81. Chip Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:14 PM (#2560518)
So who's the Yankees' long man?

I thought "Joba" was the answer to every Yankee bullpen question.
   82. Bernal Diaz has an angel on his shoulder. Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:15 PM (#2560519)
3-1

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
   84. Dan Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:15 PM (#2560521)
How the #### do you get caught off second there? Why was he even rounding the bag at all?
   85. Chip Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:15 PM (#2560522)
Stupid baserunning by Peralta. They had no play at the plate that he needed to draw a throw.
   86. Urban Faber Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:15 PM (#2560523)
Peralta gave the Yankees a break there.
   87. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:15 PM (#2560524)
So who's the Yankees' long man?

Hughes, but he's shadowing Clemens/Moose. Maybe Ohlie.
   88. Shock Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:16 PM (#2560525)
Has this PBP announcer ever watched baseball before?
   89. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:17 PM (#2560526)
So who's the Yankees' long man?

Wang always gives you length.

Nicely done.
   91. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:19 PM (#2560529)
Just checked. Hammonds never faced Mussina. Was on the same team as him for most of his career.
Guthrie, Gosling and Bruntlett are other major league players from Standford I could identify. I think it is going to be a first
   92. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:19 PM (#2560531)
Well, let's not waste this walk, guys.
   93. Chip Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:20 PM (#2560533)
For ####'s sake CC, they just gave you the lead, you're supposed to settle down now.
   94. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:20 PM (#2560534)
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that, yes, Chip Caray has watched baseball before.
   95. Bernal Diaz has an angel on his shoulder. Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:20 PM (#2560535)
CC is nervous. He will settle.
   96. Bull Pain Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:21 PM (#2560536)
There are lots of Stanfordians that have played MLB. I'm sure Jack McDowell faced a guy like Hammonds or David McCarty.

How about ex-Indian Jody Gerut?
   98. Chip Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:23 PM (#2560539)
He's struggling more throwing strikes to the lefties than he is to the righties.
   99. Bernal Diaz has an angel on his shoulder. Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:24 PM (#2560540)
Isn't Gerut involved in a lawsuit against the Pirates or some such?
   100. Gamingboy Posted: October 04, 2007 at 07:25 PM (#2560541)
Chip Caray has probably been watching Baseball since his crazy Grandpa brought him to a game.
