There's absolutely no excuse for these games to be on at the same time, and to break up the coverage like this. None. This is incredibly lame. News flash: NOT EVERYBODY GETS FX, DIMWITS!

GAME COVERAGE St. Louis Cardinals at New York Mets 79%

MARKETS INCLUDE: Albuquerque, Atlanta, Austin, Baltimore, Birmingham, Boston, Buffalo, Charlotte, Chicago, Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton, Denver, Fort Myers, Greensboro, Greenville, Hartford, Houston, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Kansas City, Knoxville, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Louisville, Memphis, Miami, Milwaukee, Nashville, New Orleans, New York, Norfolk, Oklahoma City, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Providence, Raleigh, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, San Diego, St. Louis, Tampa, Tulsa, Washington, West Palm Beach

Detroit Tigers at Oakland Athletics 20%

MARKETS INCLUDE: Cleveland, Dallas, Detroit, Minneapolis, Portland, Richmond, Sacramento, San Francisco, Seattle

The Detroit Tigers: the Rodney Dangerfields of baseball.

Sigh.

It amazes me that people are shocked and dismayed by this turn of events, considering the events have been turning the same way for years.

The Detroit Tigers: don't have a damn thing to do with it.

Good news A's fans! Neifi starts tonight.

It amazes me that people are shocked and dismayed by this turn of events, considering the events have been turning the same way for years.

What really amazes me is that people push for yet more playoffs, when clearly they have trouble marketing the playoffs they've got.

Until I read Buddha's post, I was going to say that, if these Tigers continue their alternate dimension experiment in working counts and making you throw pitches, they have become the favorites.

But the doomsday that is Neifi trumps all. Have there been reports that Omar Infante has attacked Leyland with a bat yet?
   6. chemdoc Posted: October 11, 2006 at 12:58 PM (#2206972)
Neifi's career postseason OPS is 1.167.

Are we sure Leyland will put such a behemoth into the lineup?
   7. Poochie Mahoney Posted: October 11, 2006 at 01:04 PM (#2206976)
Which is the likeliest outcome?

Neifi goes 0 for 5 with 4 K's.
Neifi hits for the cycle prompting a deluded Lou to sign him up as a starter for whatever team he has next season.
Neifi goes 1 for 5, the one being a quiet single to right.
Neifi doesn't hit, but turns several routine double plays, prompting an orgy of praise from Brennaman as a "guy who may not hit as much as you want, but there is NO ONE better at turning two in clutch situations."

Neifi goes 0 for 5 with 4 K's.

Neifi's not one to strike out, is he?
   9. Buddha Posted: October 11, 2006 at 03:03 PM (#2207097)
More likely that Neifi will go 0-5 with 5 weak outs, three ground outs for double plays and two pop ups with runners on third and less than two outs.

There's absolutely no excuse for these games to be on at the same time, and to break up the coverage like this.

Assuming that Mets/Cards at 8:00 on Fox is a given, which argument is least problematic?

1. They can't have the games on at the same time! I can't watch them both, and the other game is on a lesser channel that not everyone has!

2. The AL Game can't be on earlier! Anyone who would want to watch it is at work (especially on the West Coast), and what the heck kind of marketing involves putting a top game at a time no one can see it!

3. The AL Game can't be on later! Anyone who would want to watch it is asleep (especially on the East Coast), and what the heck kind of marketing involves putting a top game at a time no one can see it!

Seems like, if you're going to have games on weekdays, you're going to run into one of these three complaints.

In Detroit and Bay Area markets, the ALCS will be on Fox.

Neifi? F*ck me.

As a comparison, in Canada, Sportsnet is showing the ALCS in the Ontario and Pacific markets, and the AAAA-LCS everywhere else. I get Seattle's Fox affiliate.

BTW, for those who took off early: yesterday's terrible All-Star line belonged to Steve Swisher.

Neifi justy balances out D'Angelo Jimenez. It's not going to matter what he does tonight, though, since Verlander is throwing a 2-Hit shutout.

Polanco is a nice player, but he might trump Casey and Marlon Anderson as most miscast as the third place hitter.

It looks like Verlander is going to need to throw the 2-hit shutout I'm predicting.

Guillen is really the only option on the roster, but when Casey was injured last night Santiago finished the game at short.

Yeah, I was surprised it wasn't Neifi at that time. Is Neifi actually a better hitter than Santiago? If so, is Santiago the worst hitter this side of the South Riverdale Baseball League?

Leyland: "He can bunt, he can hit and run, he can do some things. ... He’s liable to swing at one one foot over his head and he’s liable to swing at one two feet for a triple, The thing I love with Neifi Perez is energy. He plays with a passion. He loves to play. He’s a smart player.’’

They had to take someone off that Cub team, though Monday would have been a better choice considering that Swisher was the third catcher.

IIRC, Girardi got on as a Cub when they needed a last-minute replacement and he was the the first guy they could reach on the phone.

Piniella's talking about how he chooses to put the infield in or out, and the concern that you only really get beat if they put a crooked number on the board.

He's still not really able to articulate all his thoughts - no good manager would or should be able to, to some degree - but he's a far, far sight better than anyone else Fox has hired.

Yeah, I think the gun is off by 2-3 more than 3-5. Not really a big deal.

I thought I read somewhere that the gap between reality and reports increases as the speed of the pitches increases. So it could be 2-3 in the 80s, but 3-4 in the mid or high 90s.
