ARI (29-21) at NYM (31-19) - 7:05 PM EDT

ARI: Batista (4-2, 4.60 ERA)
NYM: Soler (0-0, 3.00 ERA)

Sign of danger for the Mets - they are 15-6 in one-run games this season. Fates being fickle, those breaks might stop going their way evenutally.

Lastings Milledge will make his debut tonight with Nady hitting the DL because of an emergency appendectomy.

The Milledge era begins!

Lastings!

From what I am reading about the call-up, Milledge might not make it to Shea for tonight's game (or the start at least), so his debut may be tomorrrow. If he does make it though, he will start tonight it seems.
   3. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 02:00 PM (#2043944)
!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I haven't been this excited about a ML debut since July 21st, 2004.

Sweetness! After all the trade talk the last few years, it's awesome to see Milledge makes his debut with the Mets.

That being said, how far has Victor Diaz fallen the last two months?
   5. Sam M. Posted: May 30, 2006 at 02:41 PM (#2044005)
There is going to be a TON of outstanding young talent on that field tonight. Jackson and Tracy for the visitors; Wright, Reyes, Soler, and Milledge (if he makes it) for the home team. You gotta love it.
   6. Joshemy Posted: May 30, 2006 at 03:21 PM (#2044075)
WFAN is reporting Milledge will be at Shea, start in RF and bat 8th. WHEE!

The Mets are 31-19. Their 3rd Order Pythag is ...

31-19. (1st order is 29-21, 2nd order is 30-20)

If fate either stops or starts breaking their way, things could get slightly better, much better, slightly worse, or much worse in a big hurry.

I'm not too worried considering that BP's playoff odds, which are based on pythag and PECOTA give the Mets an 86.8% chance to make the playoffs.

I really should go to the game tonight. But I've got prior plans. Ugh.
   13. Sam M. Posted: May 30, 2006 at 05:27 PM (#2044239)
I have to go to a reception, so I'll probably miss the first inning or two. Crossing my fingers I'll be back for Milledge's first AB . . . .

I heard someone was promoted. I will conveniently be filing my work from home tonight.

Milo!

No. 44. I like it.

Hopefully he isn't Ryan Thompson nor Jay Payton.

Lastings sporting the Randall Simon bling.

He was out. That wasn't close.
   22. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:16 PM (#2044364)
He's out!
   23. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:16 PM (#2044365)
The umps really hate the Mets.
   24. Bob Koo Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:22 PM (#2044371)
Soler's catching some breaks. I thought both deep fly outs were were homers.

   27. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:24 PM (#2044375)
This isn't going well.
   28. Bob Koo Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:24 PM (#2044378)
The non-Pedro/Glavine starters are continually giving up first inning runs. It's really annoying.
   29. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:27 PM (#2044386)
Soler can't throw strikes. Geez.
   30. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:28 PM (#2044387)
Only 2 first inning runs this game, he's improving!
   31. Banta Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:30 PM (#2044392)
Well, that was a much better bunt from Reyes.
   32. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:30 PM (#2044393)
Soler has the quality offspeed pitches to be a good pitcher. He just seems tentative with his fastball. His fastball isn't overpowering and he seems afraid to throw it. He's at 88-91, and that's plenty if he locates.
   33. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:30 PM (#2044394)
Whoa, Reyes lays down a good bunt.
   34. You can't lose with Randy Winn, says Flynn Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:30 PM (#2044395)

   36. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:35 PM (#2044405)
It would be nice for Delgado to do something here.

   38. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:36 PM (#2044409)

   43. Raskolnikov Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:43 PM (#2044435)
I'm not too worried, it looks like we're going to hit Batista pretty hard tonight.
   44. Sam M. Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:43 PM (#2044436)
Soler really needs to work on those first inning blues.
   45. CrosbyBird Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:44 PM (#2044437)

   46. Sam M. Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:46 PM (#2044443)
Milledge due up third. Should be fun.

   55. Sam M. Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:52 PM (#2044465)

Yes, the Mets should have easily goten two runs last inning. Reyes just wasn't patient enough.

I hope so, or at least that they are when the season's over. That's a great stat to lead the league in. Lead the league in LOB, you usually lead the league in runners on base, and you're usually going to be near the lead in runs, too.
