I'm 1-5 on the year and am going to this game. Sorry.

I don't like the chances of any of the teams down 2-0, but if I had to pick one that is most likely to come back, it's the Cubs.

I call on Streaking Moses to dispel any bad karma Ryan brings.

Ah, hell with it--I don't buy any of that crap. The Cubs play well, they'll win. They don't, they won't. That simple.

Ryan, where're your seats? (You go through Stubhub or somebody?)

Hernandez winning the World Series MVP was a travesty. Been waiting ten years to get that off my chest.

Hopefully you feed better now, Maddux.

I doubt there will be many AZ fans at Wrigley today

Rich Hill is under no pressure at all. None. None whatsoever. Well, maybe just a little bit...

Can't find the original source, but I read somewhere that Kendall starts tonight. #### knows why.

I read that in the Trib (I read it in the paper and am too lazy to look for the exact link, but I'm sure it's on their website somewhere). They mention that Kendall has good career numbers v. Livan. Beyond that, the thinking may be - get the veteran in to go with the inexperienced pitcher particularly since offense shouldn't be as big an issue at home against Livan. I'm sort of okay with it, as long as this is the only game this series that Kendall starts.

Moses had better the #### be naked.

It's my understanding that he stripped down at quitting time yesterday afternoon and he hasn't been clothed since.

I'm actually considering it myself, but that has more to do with this unseasonably warm weather than superstition.

For the first time, I think I'm beginning to see the benefits of being 6 time zones away.

Hrrumph! Soto has yet to make an out against Livan!

For all his fading suckitude, Hernandez scares me. He's the kind of junkballer who if he's on could make the Cubs look as bad they have looked so far.
   14. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: October 06, 2007 at 05:19 PM (#2564268)
Kendall has hit .355/.394/.452 in his career against Livan Hernandez, in 33 plate appearances.

Of course, he hasn't faced him since 2005, and has no extra base hits off him since 2001. He hit a double off him in 2001 and a triple in 2000, since then, nothing but singles.

Game time temperature in Chicago 87F, with wind blowing 8 mph from the SSW.

Hey hey holy mackerel
No doubt about it
The Cubs are on their way
They've got the hustle
They've got the muscle
The Chicago Cubs are on their way.
   17. Dan Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:07 PM (#2564300)
Yikes
   18. Lassus Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:07 PM (#2564301)
I'm a Mets fan but for the love of god, Cubs, can you PLEASE make this a series. In the name of all that's sacred save us from expansion teams.

Yeah, just like that, Hill. Stellar.
   19. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:08 PM (#2564302)
Geez. Well, one run isn't going to do it, that's for sure.
   20. Lassus Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:08 PM (#2564303)
(And yes, I'm aware that the Mets are an expansion team. Thank you.)

JESUS CHRIST TOMMY, what are you doing, we need to win this game, I mean, just a win so we can control our destiny against the Phils, and....

Wait, where am I? What's happening?

BOOOO!!!! BOOOOO!!! BOOOOO!!!!

It's just like watching a game from Philadelphia!

Nice job making no effort to get out of the way there, Ojeda.

Chances of Soriano swinging for the fences: 100%.

And then, to add to our torture, more Frank.

If you're married to the idea of playing the personal catcher, why not flip Hernandez and Owings in the rotation to gain the platoon advantage with both matchups?
   31. Lassus Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:25 PM (#2564320)
There is something comforting about seeing Livan pitch. I feel like it's the 90's.
   32. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:27 PM (#2564321)
Chris Young is a monster.

I am exhausted. Tech lost today, not taht I expected much. But was a horrible way to lose!!
Lets go Cubbies..i want a series!
   33. Bull Pain Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:27 PM (#2564322)
No Eric Gregg for Livan today. They happily forgot to mention his 7.91 ERA in 4 World Series starts.
   34. Dan Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:27 PM (#2564323)
Alfonso Soriano took a walk in a playoff game? The end is night, gentlemen

Well, he does sweat a lot, even for a fat guy.

The end is nigh*
   37. Bull Pain Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:28 PM (#2564327)
Holding when you are in reasonable FG range is just plain stupid.
   38. Lassus Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:28 PM (#2564328)
OH MY GOD DID SORI JUST LAY OFF A PITCH THAT WAS LOW AND OUTSIDE?

There's hope yet for world peace.

Holding when you are in reasonable FG range is just plain stupid.

Stupid is a very polite way to put it.

Bunting against Livan is not a good idea. He is a very good fielder.
   40. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:29 PM (#2564330)
The 3-2 wasn't six inches low and a foot outside. Time to recalibrate the ball-tracking doohickey.
   41. Lassus Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:31 PM (#2564331)
OUCH
   42. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:31 PM (#2564332)
You suck, Theriot!!
   43. Dan Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:31 PM (#2564334)
3-1 GIDP, yikes.
   44. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:32 PM (#2564335)
Maybe bunting was not such a bad idea with Theriot :)

Why is Theriot batting second? And where is Fontenot?
   45. Bull Pain Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:32 PM (#2564336)
Well Livan looks as awful as he always does.
   46. villainx Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:33 PM (#2564337)
That was sort of like getting out of the way of the pitch. Except not really.
   47. Bull Pain Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:34 PM (#2564338)
these are all strikes against the Braves in '97
   48. Lassus Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:34 PM (#2564339)
Livan is really married to that spot, and it isn't like he's getting squeezed.
   49. Greg K Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:34 PM (#2564340)
I like the rationalizations of Livan sucking
   50. villainx Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:35 PM (#2564342)
So that was a 97 3-1 call?
   51. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:35 PM (#2564343)
Holding when you are in reasonable FG range is just plain stupid.

The worst aprt is, bell is really good. He has made 50 yarders and more. Taking a sack even to set up a 45 yarder with 50 secs left would be acceptable. Gah, And I thought this team would be better without Reggie Ball
   52. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:36 PM (#2564344)
So that was a 97 3-1 call?

Hell no, that was middle of the strike zone for Gregg
   53. Chip Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:36 PM (#2564345)
An Eric Gregg Memorial K!
   54. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:36 PM (#2564346)

   55. Lassus Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:37 PM (#2564347)
I'd find this Kenny Lofton commercial a lot funnier if I didn't really hate Kenny Lofton.
   56. Dan Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:39 PM (#2564348)
I like how they avoided showing the strike zone graphic for the 3-2 pitch.

   60. Bull Pain Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:49 PM (#2564356)
that wasn't a particularly tough hop. I'm blame J.D. being soft.
   61. Lassus Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:51 PM (#2564357)
WTF is one of the only run-scorers for Chicago not doing in? Kendall? I can't have much sympathy for Lou here if you guys lose this game.
   62. Lassus Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:51 PM (#2564358)
That base hit notwithstanding.
   63. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:52 PM (#2564359)
"Kendall continues to hit Hernandez well"? he hasn't faced him in two years.
   64. Dan Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:53 PM (#2564360)
what a shitty bunt
   65. Dan Posted: October 06, 2007 at 06:54 PM (#2564361)
Cubs are swinging at pretty shitty pitches for being ahead in the count.

I was just going to say that. If I were a Cub fan I think I'd be flipping out at the bad ABs.

   70. Greg K Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:00 PM (#2564367)
They really want to throw it into the OF don't they?
   71. Gamingboy Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:02 PM (#2564369)
I saw Augie when he was in the minors a year or two back. Glad he's back in the bigs, he was a fun player to watch, real plucky. Like a poor man's David Eckstein.
   72. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:03 PM (#2564371)
If Hill gets out of this, he might settle down.
But really, the Cubs have to stop wasting those good scoring chances against Livan, STOP swinging at slop 3-1 and 2-0
   73. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:05 PM (#2564374)
Augie is trying to get hit there isn't he? Kendall would know exactly what he is trying
   74. MSI Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:05 PM (#2564375)
The Cubs were my World Series winner pick before the playoffs...I figured the D-backs would fold but their young hitting has really stepped up finally.
   75. Lassus Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:06 PM (#2564376)
Man, Rich Hill getting pounded. Lucky to escape that one.
   76. Bull Pain Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:06 PM (#2564377)
That has to be as far as Augie can hit the ball.

I've been napping on and off all day, so I missed the first inning and a half. Did anyone ever think god damn Augie Ojeda would ever be such a pain in the ass for the Cubs?
   78. Gamingboy Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:06 PM (#2564379)
By the way, when I said Ojeda was like a poor man's David Eckstein, I meant he was a poor man's poor man's David Eckstein.

It's not 7-0 yet, and it's past the 1st inning.

But things are not setting up good for the Cubbies.

Here's that Strawberry 3-homer game vs the Cubs that Ron Darling was talking about. Ed Lynch with the W for the Mets. Darryl's only other 3-homer game was 11 years later as a Yankee against Kevin Tapani and the White Sox.

It's good to see the Diamondbacks have an inning like the Cubs.
   83. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:11 PM (#2564386)
ANOTHER bad 3-1 swing
   84. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:12 PM (#2564387)
My guess is most of the Cubs diehards are at the game.

I sit here in my easy chair with a battered and bruised Cubs cap. Perhaps a tad silly but I wanted to show the support somehow.
   85. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:14 PM (#2564388)
Alright Aramis...
   86. Dan Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:14 PM (#2564389)
Wow, Aramis looking TERRIBLE
   87. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:15 PM (#2564390)
Jeez Aramis! Swing at something atleast in your time zone
   88. Lassus Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:15 PM (#2564391)
Aramis, please. You're killing us.
   89. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:15 PM (#2564392)
63 mph on that one.
   90. Gamingboy Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:17 PM (#2564393)
Aramis Ramirez is being A-Rod like today.
   91. Bull Pain Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:17 PM (#2564394)
That's amazing. Livan has been horrible and the Cubs have nothing to show for it.
   92. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:17 PM (#2564395)
Unbefuckinglievable.
   93. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:18 PM (#2564396)
Aramis is ####### awful right now. Just terrible. I've never had such little confidence in him as I do now. I've never seen him look so helpless at the plate. And it's not even like he hasn't been here before. He was huge in 2003. I'm starting to get that feeling about this game.

I think the Cubs need a new hitting coach. There's no reason to have so many quality hitters and be so consistently awful with RISP.
   94. Lassus Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:18 PM (#2564397)
Normally studly power-hitting third baseman with a rally-killing DP?

Oy.
   95. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:21 PM (#2564399)

The Cubs' inability to get to Livan is astounding.
   97. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: October 06, 2007 at 07:22 PM (#2564402)
Jeez. It feels like the Cubs are down 7-0. And they probably might as well be. This team looks like a deer caught in the headlights.
