Yesterday wasn't even the first time Andrew Brown was traded for Milton Bradley -- he was the player to be named later sent from the Dodgers to the Indians in 2004.
   2. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:27 AM (#2423710)
I think we could use a guy like Milton Bradley to improve the offense and spell Kotsay in CF. I wonder whether the Padres would take Andrew Brown for him.
   3. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: June 30, 2007 at 07:54 AM (#2423713)
From Slusser
today:

Oakland sent $1.36 million to the Padres to cover more than half of the remaining $2.05 million on Bradley's 2007 deal.

The Padres did not require a physical exam for the oft-injured Bradley. An oblique strain that the A's had no knowledge of scuttled a trade with Kansas City last week. Bradley apparently will be starting for San Diego on Sunday.
   4. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: June 30, 2007 at 08:00 AM (#2423714)
Bah! That didn't format the way I wanted, but you all get the gist I think.
   5. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: June 30, 2007 at 11:19 AM (#2423783)
I'm developing an all-consuming hatred for Kotsay. He's a graduate of Gritty, Gutty Gamer Academy, so despite the fact that the .242/.292/.343 and gimpy-old-man defense he provides are actively contributing to a tailspin, he can't be benched, which leads to a superior player getting thrown overboard. The ultimate irony of which is Kotsay's history of griping in the press about playing time.

And what possible justification could there be for a national blackout preceding the start of the Fox games by three hours? It's tantamount to west coast afternoon games being blacked out ahead of Sunday Night Baseball. Ridiculous.

This is my second experience with blackouts. I don't like it. A's fans clearly don't have the moral high ground to ridicule the G3A grads from other teams anymore.
   8. Sometimes it Rains (sj) Posted: June 30, 2007 at 01:21 PM (#2423838)
I think you can find my musings about Matsui sucking this year in some spring training threads.

Abreu, well, I didn't think so. And for the record, I hated the Damon signing.
   9. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: June 30, 2007 at 01:22 PM (#2423840)
The ultimate irony of which is Kotsay's history of griping in the press about playing time.

Then the bonus irony is that Bradley made statements in spring to the effect that Kotsay was invaluable and he couldn't wait for him to get back playing next to him.
   10. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: June 30, 2007 at 01:23 PM (#2423841)
Are there two more disgruntled groups of fans than those of the teams in this game?
   11. Sometimes it Rains (sj) Posted: June 30, 2007 at 01:24 PM (#2423843)
Cubs fans are pretty glum, but that is pretty perpetual.
   12. Sometimes it Rains (sj) Posted: June 30, 2007 at 01:27 PM (#2423845)
I am always skeptical of the complete revamping of mechanics, but Igawa hasn't looked terrible, outside of one inning in SF
   13. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: June 30, 2007 at 01:32 PM (#2423846)
Well Cubs fans can't be too unhappy about a 7 game winning streak and being 6.5 behind a team that Clay Davenport thinks they're better than.
   14. Sometimes it Rains (sj) Posted: June 30, 2007 at 01:33 PM (#2423848)
Yeah, they are still unhappy though.

What the #### is Sterling talking about?

SJ, if you can actually watch this game you're ahead of us mlb.tv types. Sorry for the double post. As usual I've no idea how it happened.
   17. Sometimes it Rains (sj) Posted: June 30, 2007 at 01:42 PM (#2423852)
Can't watch it, but I am getting a scouting report via the text from my buddy in the stands.

I texted, "how does igawa look"

he texted back "looks shitty, but less so than earlier in the year"

Sterling is on gameday audio. Is the A's radio team any good.

Kendall hit a homer, so I would imagine that I am getting a text within second.
   18. Sometimes it Rains (sj) Posted: June 30, 2007 at 01:44 PM (#2423854)
3 texts in 4 minutes. He is 5 beers in, I would expect him to streak if Igawa gives up a couple more.
   19. tfbg9 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 01:47 PM (#2423857)
Igwana looks kinda shakey right here.
   20. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: June 30, 2007 at 01:47 PM (#2423858)
Gameday is really screwed up. It says Kendall and Stewart just hit back-to-back HRs.

Is the A's radio team any good.

Korach rocks. Cotroneo is a mediocre talking head (came from the Rangers). Fosse is a homer, which probably bothers non-As fans more than us.
   21. tfbg9 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 01:50 PM (#2423860)
I would expect him to streak

Like, Ray Stevens "Streak"?
   22. tfbg9 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 01:51 PM (#2423862)
The Kendall HR was incredibly cheap.
   23. tfbg9 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 01:53 PM (#2423864)
Did Cano just dog it a little?
   24. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: June 30, 2007 at 01:54 PM (#2423866)
I can't imagine Kendall hitting a non-cheap HR. He was almost thrown out at 1B by a RF who was actually playing him where he should be played. I'm convinced it will happen before the season is over.
   25. walt williams bobblehead Posted: June 30, 2007 at 01:56 PM (#2423867)
I prefer to think of it as under-valued rather than cheap.
   26. Sometimes it Rains (sj) Posted: June 30, 2007 at 01:57 PM (#2423869)
johnny damon has to go on the dl, has to do it. What is fernando seginuol doing nowadays?
   27. tfbg9 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 01:58 PM (#2423870)
That shot of Damon trying to run was fairly shocking, I hadn't seen such a shot since his injury-related speed problems had intensified.
   28. Sometimes it Rains (sj) Posted: June 30, 2007 at 02:00 PM (#2423871)
I mean, who is he trying to impress? shut it down Johnny.
   29. Sometimes it Rains (sj) Posted: June 30, 2007 at 02:02 PM (#2423873)
Moose stepped up last night though, I am pleased about that.
   30. tfbg9 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 02:06 PM (#2423878)
Moose stepped up last night though, I am pleased about that.

So, how hard was he able to throw, if you were watching?
   31. Sometimes it Rains (sj) Posted: June 30, 2007 at 02:07 PM (#2423880)
Did not see the radar readings, was at house party
   32. Sometimes it Rains (sj) Posted: June 30, 2007 at 02:07 PM (#2423882)
yanks are going to get no hit.
   33. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: June 30, 2007 at 02:12 PM (#2423883)
Kay and the other guy said Mussina was around 86-87 last night. They stopped showing the radar gun readings in about the 2nd inning on the scoreboard though.
   34. tfbg9 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 02:17 PM (#2423885)
I have my ducks lined up now, so that if the NYY's win the East, then go all the way to the WS and win it, I'll rake in ~ 5 grand by betting up the parlay ladder each time.

If they just make the Playoffs and win the WS, I get only 6-7 hundred.
   35. tfbg9 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 02:18 PM (#2423887)
86-87

If he is now at that level, he's in deep trouble.
   36. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: June 30, 2007 at 02:20 PM (#2423888)
He didn't have much trouble against the mighty Oakland lineup last night.
   37. tfbg9 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 02:24 PM (#2423889)
In games where his command is very good and/or aainst weak hitting teams, he can still win, but he's done as a big time starter, I'd have to guess, as a right throwong 87.
   38. Chip Posted: June 30, 2007 at 02:41 PM (#2423894)
Stone Hands Ellis turns a sure doubleplay from Jeter into a fielder's choice.
   39. bunyon Posted: June 30, 2007 at 02:44 PM (#2423895)
A's/Yanks and there are 37 comments in the 6th inning? Fair weather fans at BTF, I guess.
   40. Chip Posted: June 30, 2007 at 02:46 PM (#2423896)
Huge comeback from Gaudin to strike out A-Rod and end the inning, after walking Abreu in the wake of Ellis' screwup, then falling behind 3-0.
   41. cic Posted: June 30, 2007 at 02:49 PM (#2423898)
I'm watching and reading. I have nothing to say. The most emotion I've had so far was for that stupid Fox News commercial about that stupid 1/2 hour comedy show they have.

I'm sure neither is this weather nationally on a Saturday afternoon.

St Louis is dark and overcast. Presumably it's better elsewhere.

Swish!
   47. cic Posted: June 30, 2007 at 03:02 PM (#2423906)
Does this move to Mike Myers make much sense given the fact that he's going to waste Proctor's arm in 90% of his other appearances anyway? Why ruin the rest of the pen in a six run game? You're obviously not going to get three out of Myers.
   48. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: June 30, 2007 at 03:10 PM (#2423908)
The LOOGY makes less and less sense to me in general. I've seen way too much of the likes of Ricardo Rincon and Jay Marshall face righties for the concept to make much sense outside the postseason or September.
   49. cic Posted: June 30, 2007 at 03:27 PM (#2423915)
Wow, Jeter almost did not make that play.
   50. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: June 30, 2007 at 03:31 PM (#2423918)
Hey it's Rich Harden!
   51. Chip Posted: June 30, 2007 at 03:41 PM (#2423924)
Hey it's Rich Harden!

Well,a facsimile of him, anyway. This one has no command over anything other than his fastball, and that just barely.
   52. Chip Posted: June 30, 2007 at 03:42 PM (#2423925)
Gets Jeter to chase the inside pitch and ties him up. The velocity's definitely there.
   53. John DiFool2 Posted: June 30, 2007 at 03:44 PM (#2423926)
Wow, one hit thru 8, and they give up a homer to Kendall of all people.
   54. cic Posted: June 30, 2007 at 03:49 PM (#2423930)
Jesus Christ. Moneyball.
   55. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: June 30, 2007 at 03:49 PM (#2423931)
31 pitches in 1 inning. He needs more practice.

So Chris Basak is the Yankees backup SS? I wondered who that was.

Huzzah.

So Alex Rodriguez is what, 5th on the depth chart?

At least.

When Kay gets on a roll and starts talking a lot, he can be one of the most insufferable people to listen to in the world. It's frankly amazing that people like he and Sterling and Waldman have been considered capable at their craft by this organization for fifteen plus years.

But then, there are a lot of things that are frankly amazing about the way this organization has been run over the last six. How the hell are we one-hit against these guys and how the hell does the broadcast crew fail to even ####### mention it?
