I'm not that concerned, but Reyes' walk rate (4 BB in 89 PA) and his tendency to lunge at the first pitch this season is a little disconcerting thus far.

Braves muddling along at 500 but good news folks! Phil Stockman has finally been called up. Hope he has a long stay this time around.
And hopefully the of Resop. Despite Resop, the bullpen ERA is at 4.09 and 9th in the NL ( Thanks to DOB for that ). By June, we can have a bullpen of
Soriano/Gonzalez/Acosta/Boyer/Stockman/Ohman and some swingman. Hopefully we are still in the race then

No interest in Dan Johnson from Omar?
   4. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: April 25, 2008 at 05:53 PM (#2758916)
Delgado is sitting. Marlon at first.

Jesus. Marlon ####### Anderson? Putrid bench.
   5. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: April 25, 2008 at 06:30 PM (#2758942)
I may miss this game too! I haven't watched a baseball game all week, but I did catch this youtube clip of Mac's triple.
Loved the call, and Chipper's reaction!

Mac's triple

In the words of Zwan: Let's Rock!

I just felt like I had to give a shout-out to Zwan.
   7. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:05 PM (#2758973)
Have no fear, for the first time in a week AJM is here!
   8. Lassus Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:12 PM (#2758979)
Ugh - this AB should already be over.
   9. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:13 PM (#2758980)
Thanks for the sac.
   10. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:14 PM (#2758981)
Castillo, Marlon, and Casanova? This lineup sucks.
   11. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:16 PM (#2758983)
One reason I wanted to sign Silva this year is because he throws strikes. I can't take all these walks.
   12. Lassus Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:16 PM (#2758984)
Holy crap. One bad call and Mike loses it.

Or, he already had lost it.
   13. Chris Dial Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:18 PM (#2758985)
What was the bad call - I got here late. I will say, walks suck.
   14. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:20 PM (#2758987)
I don't want to watch anymore.
   15. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:21 PM (#2758989)
Oh, the pain.
   16. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:24 PM (#2758991)
Phew.
   17. Corn On Ty Cobb Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:25 PM (#2758993)
Diaz can't hit RHP. The Braves should sign Bonds.
   18. Chris Dial Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:26 PM (#2758994)
Eh, Pelfrey gets over those walks, he's pretty tough.
   19. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:26 PM (#2758995)
That was a pretty horrible swing Diaz had at that last pitch.
   20. Chris Dial Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:27 PM (#2758997)
#### - there isn't a team Bonds won't help. Especially with the way Big Papi is sucking wind.
   21. Lassus Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:32 PM (#2759004)
Oh look, it was almost a HR.

sigh
   22. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:35 PM (#2759006)
I don't have a particularly good feeling about this game. The Met offense has been in a malaise and Pelfrey struggles to get good lefties out and the Braves' lineup has a ton of them.
   23. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:38 PM (#2759009)
Does having a good or bad bullpen have anything to do with how well you do in one run games?
   24. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:41 PM (#2759011)
Cohen would have crapped on Milledge if he made that mistake.
   25. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:42 PM (#2759014)
Why can't our catchers actually catch the ball?
   26. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:48 PM (#2759019)
Over/under on Met baserunners today: 5.5
   27. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:52 PM (#2759023)
I really want one of those kids to cap Burkhardt in the face.
   28. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:55 PM (#2759029)
That was nice.
   29. Lassus Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:55 PM (#2759030)
Actually, that throw wasn't really as bad as Cohen made it out to be.
   30. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: April 25, 2008 at 07:56 PM (#2759031)
Wow, the Mets are lucky there. Pelfrey panicked and should have realized that McCann was running. Of course, that's easier said than done.
   31. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:02 PM (#2759036)
Do you let Pelfrey swing? I say yes.
   32. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:05 PM (#2759040)
Reyes, please drive in a run here. No pop-ups or Ks.
   33. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:05 PM (#2759041)
Antsy.
   34. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:05 PM (#2759042)
Ugh.

Slappy isn't going to do anything.
   35. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:05 PM (#2759043)
I hate this team right now.
   36. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:08 PM (#2759047)
Come on David.
   37. Lassus Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:09 PM (#2759048)
This is a good place to break a slump.
   38. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:09 PM (#2759049)
This might be the key AB of the game.
   39. Lassus Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:10 PM (#2759050)
WHOOOOOOOAA that was awful close to take.
   40. Lassus Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:11 PM (#2759053)
Maybe he'll walk in a run.
   41. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:11 PM (#2759054)
Walk!
   42. Lassus Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:12 PM (#2759056)
Well, that pitch wasn't as close.
   43. Barry Gibb Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:12 PM (#2759057)
McClellan blew that 0-2 call.
   44. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:12 PM (#2759058)
Jurrjens probably struckout Wright on that 0-2 pitch. It was just so nasty that it fooled the umpire.
   45. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:13 PM (#2759059)
It looked outside.
   46. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:13 PM (#2759060)
There's no probably in 44. He did strike out Wright.
   47. Lassus Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:13 PM (#2759061)
He really did get jobbed on that 0-2 call, but, eh, gotta live with it.
   48. Barry Gibb Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:14 PM (#2759063)
Brutal; this is the moment where the young pitcher gets rattled and makes a mistake. And he blew that 3-1 call again.
   49. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:15 PM (#2759065)
Walk! This is the only thing the offense can do at this point.
   50. Lassus Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:15 PM (#2759067)
Wright was a K on 0-2, but the ball on 3-1 was low.
   51. Barry Gibb Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:17 PM (#2759068)
Fair enough; just the frustration. I would be surprised if the Braves win this game.
   52. Lassus Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:18 PM (#2759071)
Another awesome display of hitting by the Mets.
   53. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:19 PM (#2759072)
What's the record for most consecutive bases loaded walks?
   54. Barry Gibb Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:19 PM (#2759074)
The second that McClellan blew the call was the moment that Jurrjens was done.
   55. Chris Dial Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:19 PM (#2759075)
Oof, four in a row.
   56. Lassus Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:22 PM (#2759080)
Stellar. Somehow that 3-1 lead leaves me unhappy.
   57. Sam Hutcheson Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:23 PM (#2759085)
Perhaps because it's Braves 1, Mets 0, Tim McClellan 3.
   58. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:24 PM (#2759087)
Jurrjens looked like he was going to cry after that inning.

The second that McClellan blew the call was the moment that Jurrjens was done.

Umpires blow calls. Not everything that followed was the ump's fault. I don't think you are saying that obviously but it's up to Jurrjens to make that blown call moot.
   59. Barry Gibb Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:25 PM (#2759091)
Undoubtedly, I've always hated McClellan. Whoa, Diaz walk.
   60. Lassus Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2759092)
I wonder what the record for combined walks in a 9-inning game is.

As they've said a few times, Pelfrey has been pretty good with the lack of walks UP UNTIL NOW.
   61. Sam Hutcheson Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2759094)
Tim McClellan is an ass. I'd love to see a high fastball that the catcher gets "mixed up on."
   62. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2759097)
Pelfrey is going to give up the lead here.
   63. Barry Gibb Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2759100)
Yes, obviously Jurrjens could have sucked it up and gotten right or Beltran. But he is 22 and things like this are tailor-made for blow-ups. I'm glad he didn't make a mistake to Beltran, Church, or Pagan. Hopefully he can forget about it and continue on for a couple more innings.
   64. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:30 PM (#2759103)
That throw was terrible.
   65. Lassus Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:30 PM (#2759105)
Bah. Bad throw.
   66. Lassus Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:31 PM (#2759108)
I have to wonder how such great athletes and career baseball players can't throw a ball straight. I have always found that odd.
   67. Barry Gibb Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:31 PM (#2759109)
Tim McClellan is an ass. I'd love to see a high fastball that the catcher gets "mixed up on."

Please, I would love to see this. Later in the game, the Braves will put Brayan Pena in, who is not the best of catchers, to take care of this.
   68. Lassus Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:33 PM (#2759111)
Sam has a proud history of advocating violence and injury against umpires. At least he's consistent.
   69. Sam Hutcheson Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2759117)
There are few problems in this world that can't be solved by the judicious application of violence against people who piss me off.
   70. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2759122)

Lame.
   71. Raskolnikov Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2759126)
This is terrible. Pelfrey is falling behind everyone.
   72. Raskolnikov Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2759128)
You know, Pagan is not a good LFer.
   73. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2759132)
You know, Pagan is not a good LFer.

Should have Francoeur's 2b been caught?
   74. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2759134)
Where is Alou? If the LF is going to be misplaying balls like that, he'd be better hitting a couple of bombs a week.
   75. Chris Dial Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2759136)
I was noting that earlier against hte Cubs. Pagan is terrible.
   76. Sam Hutcheson Posted: April 25, 2008 at 08:52 PM (#2759139)
Yes, Pagan turned the wrong way, ran to the wrong spot, was still there in time to make the catch, and for some reason just put his glove down. Really odd to see.
   77. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:00 PM (#2759143)
Pelfrey is so ####### useless. You gotta be kidding me. Why not throw a freaking sinker to the opposing pitcher?
   78. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:00 PM (#2759144)
Pelfrey needed to get Jurrjens there. He's going to give up a run here at least.

KJ!

Fantastic.
   81. Sam Hutcheson Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:01 PM (#2759148)
Anyone listening to Chip Carey on Peachtree TV?
   82. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:01 PM (#2759150)
You could have seen that coming from a MILE away.
   83. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:01 PM (#2759151)
Yep. This game is probably over.
   84. Raskolnikov Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:02 PM (#2759154)
I'm convinced that losing Schneider has revealed the flaws of our pitchers.
   85. Barry Gibb Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:02 PM (#2759155)
There have been times this year where KJ has looked completely useless at the plate, and then he'll blindside a pitch.
   86. Lassus Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:03 PM (#2759156)
Oh hell.
   87. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:03 PM (#2759157)
BTW, why hasn't Claudio Vargas pitched in the minors yet?
   88. Barry Gibb Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:04 PM (#2759163)
Yep. This game is probably over.

Not so fast. The Braves will need at least 3 more runs with the way their bullpen has been this far.
   89. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:04 PM (#2759164)

You know the Mets offense sucks, right?
   90. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2759167)
Where's Yuni?
   91. Sam Hutcheson Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2759170)
The Braves' bullpen has actually been relatively good of late.
   92. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2759171)
SS against Jones and Teixeira? Horrible.

BTW, I think Willie probably should have pulled KJ after Jurrjens got on. There's no way he was going to get him out and SS could have been useful against the lefty KJ. SS is useless against righties.
   93. Lassus Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:06 PM (#2759172)
Thank god for Carlos Beltran.
   94. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:06 PM (#2759174)
Beltran is smooth.
   95. Raskolnikov Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:06 PM (#2759175)
I think that Beltran has saved us about 10,000 runs this season.
   96. Barry Gibb Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:06 PM (#2759176)
Just found out that Phil Stockman finally was called up by the Braves. 100% chance he pitches tonight.
   97. Sam Hutcheson Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:07 PM (#2759179)
Escobar started, was hit on the index finger of his throwing hand while bunting in the first and replaced by Prado. He has been taken for x-rays. No update on results so far.
   98. Jose Can Jussi Jokinen (Justin T) Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:07 PM (#2759181)
Does Pelfrey wear his mouthpiece in the dugout? He probably has a better chance of getting tagged with a ball sitting there. What a doom-awse.
   99. Jose Can Jussi Jokinen (Justin T) Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:08 PM (#2759182)
And the Rangers go from up 3-0 to down 4-3 to the Pens.
   100. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: April 25, 2008 at 09:08 PM (#2759184)
