Endy getting the start in LF today.
   2. Lassus Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:10 PM (#2760460)
And good thing, too.
   3. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:18 PM (#2760462)
I would be shocked of the Mets win this game.
   4. 3AM Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:19 PM (#2760463)
Smoltz is due for a bad game, his 0.78 ERA can't last.
   5. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:19 PM (#2760464)
Jose Reyes, babyeh.
   6. AJM Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:19 PM (#2760465)
Nice job Jose.
   7. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:19 PM (#2760466)
Reyes is good at baserunning.
   8. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:20 PM (#2760467)
Wright looks like crap.
   9. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:20 PM (#2760468)
Have you seen the Braves lineup?
   10. AJM Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:21 PM (#2760469)
Passed ball!
   11. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:22 PM (#2760471)
That's just horrible, Wright.
   12. 3AM Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:22 PM (#2760472)
Wow, what a fugly swing by Wright. He's just sucking now.

Reyes run!
   13. Lassus Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:22 PM (#2760474)
Our favorite way to score lately.
   14. AJM Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:22 PM (#2760475)
Or Wild Pitch.
   15. Lassus Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:23 PM (#2760476)
In fairness to Wright AND Smoltz, that was a truly nasty slider he K'd Wright with. It was the strike 2 swing that really sucked.
   16. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:23 PM (#2760477)
Have you seen the Braves lineup?

Figueroa is a mediocre 4A pitcher that is righthanded and the Mets aren't hitting at all.
   17. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:24 PM (#2760478)
I don't think we'll be scoring too much today.
   18. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:25 PM (#2760479)
Lillibridge, Prado, Kotsay with Francoeur hitting in the 3-hole...
   19. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:26 PM (#2760480)
Seriously, when I watch Smoltz I don't know how any hits him at all. Whenever I look up his stats, I expect to see something like 213 IP, 294 K, 38 bb, 1.64 ERA. No pitcher in the NL seems as nasty.
   20. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:26 PM (#2760481)
So apparently Alou might have a fractured ankle. Can the Mets just sign Bonds? Heck, I'll settle for Kenny Lofton.
   21. Corn On Ty Cobb Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:27 PM (#2760482)
Have you seen the Braves lineup?

I contemplated not even watching when I saw Francoeur's name in the 3 hole. Yikes.
   22. PreservedFish Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:28 PM (#2760483)
I met Billy Beane last night. We had a brief discussion about the Mets. It was awesome.
   23. 3AM Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:28 PM (#2760484)
I don't think we'll be scoring too much today.

For some reason, I feel confident in the Mets today. I think they'll score some more runs on Smoltz.
   24. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:29 PM (#2760485)
OFF, are you just saying that Alou has a broken ankle because it is Alou because the reports seem to say it is just a sore ankle.
   25. Lassus Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:29 PM (#2760486)
I really like that view from behind the batter, especially when someone gets a hit - at which point htey cut away quickly. I wish they'd do something to show a whole play develop that way. I feel like we've been watching baseball games on TV from THIS ONE VIEW forever.
   26. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:30 PM (#2760487)
I met Billy Beane last night. We had a brief discussion about the Mets. It was awesome.

Did you ask him about what he thought about Milledge?
   27. AJM Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:30 PM (#2760488)
Can the Mets just sign Bonds?

That would make too much sense.
   28. Corn On Ty Cobb Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:30 PM (#2760489)
Nice 3-1 hack there, Marty. That's why you suck.
   29. Corn On Ty Cobb Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:32 PM (#2760490)
I wish the Braves would sign Bonds. Their OF offense is godawful.
   30. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:32 PM (#2760491)
Recovered from hernia surgery, Alou hasn’t appeared in a minor-league rehab game since Thursday because of what Omar termed “swollenness” in his left ankle. Not sure how it happened, but the GM said Alou will be in town tomorrow to be checked out by the team’s doctors after a CT-scan Friday apparently “showed something,” which Minaya acknowledged “might be potentially a slight fracture in there.”
   31. PreservedFish Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:32 PM (#2760492)
Does anyone else feel supremely confident with Figueroa on the mound? Best 6th starter ever.
   32. AJM Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:33 PM (#2760494)
Not sure how it happened

I like that. I don't think anything has to happen for Alou to get injured.
   33. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:35 PM (#2760496)
Delgado vs. Smoltz. This won't help his slump.
   34. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:36 PM (#2760497)
Delgado has to get a hit sometime, right? Law of averages and all?
   35. Jesus Don't Want Mets For A Sunbeam Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:37 PM (#2760500)
BABIP, LD%, blah blah

Walk!
   36. AJM Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:38 PM (#2760501)
A walk? Smoltz should've just thrown him fastballs down the middle.
   37. Lassus Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:38 PM (#2760502)
I love that they are showing that heartwarming exchange between Delgado and Heilman. It entertains me to think that maybe Heilman owes him some money or something and it was more a Tony Soprano kind of chat, with Delgado warning him that he's not going to wait too much longer.
   38. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:38 PM (#2760503)
Delgado has been walking a decent amount. On pace for 60-70 walks. His BABIP is low and the home run total is obviously way down.
   39. Corn On Ty Cobb Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:39 PM (#2760504)
The drop down. Smoltz is in some pain.
   40. Lassus Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:39 PM (#2760505)
Smoltz seems to be having some problems.
   41. PreservedFish Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:39 PM (#2760506)
Did you ask him about what he thought about Milledge?

Beane said, "The Mets are lucky they're in a weak division. I think they'll win the division."

Then I told him that they had the same problem they always did, paying too much for veterans that aren't producing. He said, "Those guys, Reyes, Wright, Beltran, and Santana, they are extraordinary, but the rest of them team is kind of bringing them down."
   42. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:39 PM (#2760507)

Funniest chat post of the year so far.

   44. AJM Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:40 PM (#2760509)
Casanova!?
   45. Corn On Ty Cobb Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:40 PM (#2760510)
Casanova? Ouch.
   46. Joshemy Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:40 PM (#2760511)
You cannot stop Raul Casanova, you cannot even hope to contain him.

RAUL!!!!!!!!

   51. 3AM Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:41 PM (#2760516)
I'm feeling pretty good about my earlier post.
   52. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:42 PM (#2760518)
Smoltz isn't throwing as hard as usual. His fastball is at 88-90 with a few 92 MPH.
   53. Lassus Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:42 PM (#2760519)
Boy, that was a damn good try by Prado, though.
   54. AJM Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:42 PM (#2760520)
Figgy with the wheels.
   55. Lassus Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:45 PM (#2760523)
I've said this about Jeter before as well, but it always seems to me like that crouch as Reyes watches the ball leads to more low strike calls.
   56. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:46 PM (#2760526)
"Those guys, Reyes, Wright, Beltran, and Santana, they are extraordinary, but the rest of them team is kind of bringing them down."

They are struggling right now but guys like Maine, Perez, Wagner, and Church are above average players and Castillo, Schneider aet al. above average.

Beane said, "The Mets are lucky they're in a weak division. I think they'll win the division."

The only division that might be better is the AL East.
   57. Barry Gibb Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:46 PM (#2760527)
That doesn't help. From what I've heard from announcers, etc. Smoltz has his good feeling days and his bad feeling days; this I guess would be the latter of the two. He still can usually crank out 5 innings of great baseball. The pitch looked low and away on Gamecast, how did Casanova hit it out?
   58. AJM Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:46 PM (#2760528)
Let's go David!
   59. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:47 PM (#2760530)

   60. Lassus Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:47 PM (#2760532)
Ohhhhhh David, boy, you really do look bad.

What causes a hitter to go so hot and so cold, I wonder?

I guess everyone else wonders, too, for over a century.
   61. AJM Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:48 PM (#2760534)
Damn.
   62. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:50 PM (#2760538)
Blah, one more hit there would have been huge. Smoltz might be done for the game. He just doesn't seem to be feeling right at the moment.

BTW, I said this a few times already, I thought the Casanova pickup was really smart. Too many AB the last few seasons have gone to guys like Difelice, Stinnet, and Sandy Alomar, Jr.
   63. PreservedFish Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:55 PM (#2760541)
I am a cook at a restaurant in the Bay Area. Billy Beane ate there last night - I brought him out his food and we had a very brief chat. Super super super nice guy.

I didn't think his comment about the NL East being easy was accurate either, but I wasn't about to begin a debate with him. He was being extremely gracious just by chatting with me and his food was sitting in front of him getting cold.

It's funny, when I actually saw the guy, although he looks quiet and bookish, I was surprised at how big and athletic he looks. Huge shoulders and hands. And then I remembered: this guy was one of the best amateur baseball players of his generation.
   64. AJM Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:56 PM (#2760543)
Figgy pulls a Maine.
   65. Lassus Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:56 PM (#2760545)
Eeeeek. Nelson, throw strikes.
   66. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:56 PM (#2760546)
Jeez, Figueroa, are you really going to walk Blanco?
   67. I Love LA (OFF) Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:56 PM (#2760547)
That wasn't very smart.
   68. PreservedFish Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:57 PM (#2760548)
For a crafty pitcher, Figueroa just flat out misses his spots sometimes.
   69. Corn On Ty Cobb Posted: April 27, 2008 at 01:58 PM (#2760549)
Worst 3-hole hitter ever.
   70. AJM Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:01 PM (#2760551)
Delgado!?
   71. PreservedFish Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:02 PM (#2760553)
Huh? Opposite field?
   72. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:02 PM (#2760554)
Delgado DEGADIT!!!!!!!!
   73. PreservedFish Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:02 PM (#2760555)
"Don't Stop Believin"

That's funny
   74. Lassus Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:03 PM (#2760556)
That Smoltz clip reminds me of something my sister did once in a pee-wee baseball game. Reared back to pitch, and threw the ball straight into the ground. I was like 10 and she was 9, the whole thing was pretty mortifying. She made a point to remind me that they never did let me pitch, of course.

Delgado upstages my FASCINATING story! Good work. I knew I could help.
   75. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:04 PM (#2760557)
Huh? Opposite field?

When he is right, he can hit it out to any field. This guy was one of the most fearsome sluggers in baseball for a decade.
   76. PreservedFish Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:06 PM (#2760558)
Didn't Scott Brosius throw the ball straight into the ground in the World Series?
   77. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:06 PM (#2760560)
It was pretty funny to see Delgado stick out his tongue after the homer.
   78. Lassus Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:06 PM (#2760561)
Please god let that not have been a blind squirrel moment for Delgado.
   79. AJM Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:13 PM (#2760564)
You know, when you give the trivia question you probably shouldn't guess 15 different names when the question only asks for 2.

My answer is Rickey and Cobb.
   80. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:13 PM (#2760565)
Man, Figueroa's parents look really young.
   81. Lassus Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:14 PM (#2760567)
"Bulbous noggin"?
   82. AJM Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:14 PM (#2760569)

They're the same age as Nelson.

What's the question?
   84. AJM Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:15 PM (#2760572)
Which two players hold the record for most consecutive 60 steal seasons?
   85. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:16 PM (#2760573)
Which two players hold the record for most consecutive 60 steal seasons?

Rickey and Cobb is a good answer but I am going to go with Brock and Rickey.
   86. Lassus Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:17 PM (#2760574)
Figgy looking pretty good so far.

64 pitches through 4. It would be nice to get 6 or 7 innings.
   87. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:19 PM (#2760576)
Rickey and Cobb is a good answer but I am going to go with Brock and Rickey.

Brock and Cobb are wrong because they only did it 4 times straight. It is probably Coleman and Rickey.
   88. Lassus Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:21 PM (#2760578)
Slappy in perfect form today.
   89. Lassus Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:22 PM (#2760579)
TIME FOR A HOME RUN, DAVID
   90. Hey, it's what Johan uses (Matt) Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:28 PM (#2760583)
Figueroa is clearly Cy Young.
   91. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:31 PM (#2760590)
As much as I like Marlon, it would have made much more sense to keep Gotay.
   92. Lassus Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:56 PM (#2760627)
Hmmm... those 2 bases-loaded failures are looking a little more important all of a sudden.
   93. Barry Gibb Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:56 PM (#2760629)
I was about to say that without Chipper, this team has glaring holes, but as I say that, they string some hits together. But the point still stands.
   94. Russlan is glad the 2008 season is over Posted: April 27, 2008 at 02:58 PM (#2760631)

You know, if you had gotten deeper outings from Maine, Perez, and Pelfrey, you could PH for Figgy with the bases loaded. But you can't do that when you are only getting 5, 5.1 IP a start.
   98. Barry Gibb Posted: April 27, 2008 at 03:07 PM (#2760642)
I almost wanted to see a double play from Lilli there so Carlyle could stay in, as much as I don't want to see Carlyle.
