When asked after the game whether his team lacked focus, Atlanta Manager Bobby Cox yelled: "That's idiotical!"

So I was watching Al Reyes' last appearance and he was topping out at around 86 MPH. He's been successful recently without a great fastball but it looks like he has lost a few clicks off his fastball. I wouldn't expect much from him.
   3. Lassus Posted: August 21, 2008 at 07:11 PM (#2912152)
That was just weird.
   4. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 07:11 PM (#2912154)
Not a good start, Pedro.
   5. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: August 21, 2008 at 07:12 PM (#2912155)
Well, that wasn't good.
   6. Lassus Posted: August 21, 2008 at 07:14 PM (#2912158)
Does anyone else in the majors have that color glove Pedro has? I love that glove.
   7. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 07:21 PM (#2912160)
Evans hits lefties hard. He almost got his first homer there.
   8. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 07:23 PM (#2912161)
How about a blast, Beltran?
   9. Lassus Posted: August 21, 2008 at 07:26 PM (#2912165)
Was that Marlon in the dugout? I've blocked him out, and kind of forgot he exited.
   10. Lassus Posted: August 21, 2008 at 07:26 PM (#2912166)
HA! Existed. I WISH he exited.
   11. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 07:27 PM (#2912168)
Yeah, he's sporting the beard.

How about a hit, Delgado?
   12. Lassus Posted: August 21, 2008 at 07:29 PM (#2912169)
Man, I love Carlos Delgado.
   13. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 07:29 PM (#2912170)
Thanks, Delgado.

I like this Tatis-Hampton matchup.
   15. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: August 21, 2008 at 07:43 PM (#2912182)
I just noticed I'm planning to be in NY for the last 5 games of the World Series. Go Mets!
   16. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 07:53 PM (#2912185)
That was a nice crisp inning from Pedro.
   17. Conor Posted: August 21, 2008 at 07:54 PM (#2912186)
Had to share this story.

Watching the Phillies game, Kalas mentioned the Nats had a 20 game losing streak in the 1969 season, their first year. He asked Sarge how many games did he think the Spos lost that year. Just knowing these two facts, what would you guess?

A) They lost 20 in a row.
B) They were an expansion team.

Sarge guessed "80 or 90".

Ouch.

No, Runge.
   20. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 07:58 PM (#2912191)
Blah, I don't think that was a strike to Evans.
   21. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: August 21, 2008 at 07:58 PM (#2912192)
####### Chipper.

How about a hit, Delgado?
   23. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:00 PM (#2912195)
Me like Delgado.
   24. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:01 PM (#2912196)
That's more like it, Larry.
   25. Lassus Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:01 PM (#2912197)
Murphy would have had that.

:-)
   26. Conor Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:03 PM (#2912198)
Sorry.
   27. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:11 PM (#2912204)
I'm sorry but Tom Seaver annoys me. A lot.
   28. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:12 PM (#2912205)
Pedro has only thrown 48 pitches so far.
   29. Lassus Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:12 PM (#2912206)
OK, that was hilarious.

See, I never had a problem with Seaver, I think he has a great sense of humor.
   30. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:16 PM (#2912210)
He is really, really, full of himself. I guess he deserves to be with the career he had but I like a little huumility.

I think Sam may kill you.

Another outstanding barehanded play by Wright.
   33. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:21 PM (#2912216)
Pedro rocks.
   34. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:21 PM (#2912217)
Pedro's looking outstanding right now.
   35. Lassus Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:21 PM (#2912219)
He is really, really, full of himself. I guess he deserves to be with the career he had but I like a little huumility.

I can I can see that. I hear what you mean on humility, and I do too, but I never found his lack of humility to be troubling. I'm not sure why. He was even self-deprecating on a number of occasions when announcing I thought. He may have been full of himself but he never seemed like a jerk about it, I guess. shrug
   36. Chris Dial Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:24 PM (#2912222)
Man, I love me some TOm Seaver. THat was just a terrific bit of booth stuff.

You guys want to complain about Tom ###### Seaver? You are out of your ever-loving minds. He was just so great.
   37. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2912226)
D-WRIGHT!
   38. Lassus Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2912227)
David heating up from his ALREADY rather warm state.
   39. Swoboda is freedom Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:32 PM (#2912231)
I was about to write, don't the Mets realize this is Mike Hampton out here, but I guess Wright and Delgado do. No one else does.
   40. Alan S Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:32 PM (#2912232)
As someone who does not have an MLB TV plan, whenever someone like Halladay is pitching on TV it diverts my attention away from the Mets. He has 7 Ks through 4, as the Jays lead 7-0 and further diminish the Yankees playoff chances. It's fun to watch.
   41. Alan S Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2912236)
Phils down 1-0 to the Nats in the 6th, by the way.
   42. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2912238)
I had the seats directly in front of Ron and Keith when I went to the WS in 2000.
   43. Lassus Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2912239)
Looks like it will be a night for some bullpen fun fun fun fun fun.

Well, maybe not if the Braves keep swinging early.
   44. Swoboda is freedom Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:38 PM (#2912241)
Pedro only had 61 pitches through 5.
   45. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:41 PM (#2912244)
####.
   46. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2912247)
Pedro isn't throwing inside to lefties and that costs him when he is behind them in the count.
   47. Lassus Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2912248)
Oh crap.

That'll teach me to go get dinner.
   48. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2912249)
It looked like Pedro was afraid to throw inside even to the righties that inning and you can't be successful like that.
   49. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2912250)
IPOR just got an RBI single for the Nats.
   50. Lassus Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:52 PM (#2912252)
Russlan, did you notice that Pedro wasn't pitching inside?
   51. Swoboda is freedom Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2912255)
That's lead off hitter IPOR to you.
   52. Swoboda is freedom Posted: August 21, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2912256)
Pedro at 86 pitches after that last inning fiasco.
   53. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:02 PM (#2912262)
The 4 ER aren't pretty but this was a positive outing for Pedro. I know I am belaboring the point but he needs to throw inside because he can be very successful if he does that with the sharpness of his stuff that he had today.
   54. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:02 PM (#2912263)
3-2 Phils.
   55. Sam M. Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:03 PM (#2912265)
I'm sorry but Tom Seaver annoys me. A lot.

He is really, really, full of himself. I guess he deserves to be with the career he had but I like a little huumility.

I'm going to do worse than that. I'm going to put his sorry, Mets-hating ass on "Ignore."

Hating on Tom Seaver??? You can't hate on Tom Seaver!!! For if you do, then shouldn't you blame the whole New York Mets' system? And if the whole New York Mets' system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of baseball in general? I put it to you, Lassus -- isn't this an indictment of the United States in general? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to Russlan badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!
   56. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2912266)
How about a hit, Wright?
   57. Lassus Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2912267)
And Justice for All?

And how did I get involved in this?
   58. Sam M. Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:06 PM (#2912268)
And Justice for All?

No, no, no! Much better. Animal House!
   59. Lassus Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:06 PM (#2912269)
Oh crap, right.
   60. Sam M. Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:07 PM (#2912270)
And that would make you Greg Marmalade, by the way.
   61. Lassus Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:08 PM (#2912271)
Wright too over-eager and aggressive there. Tsk tsk tsk.
   62. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:08 PM (#2912273)
How about a hit, Beltran?
   63. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:15 PM (#2912280)
YES!
   64. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:15 PM (#2912281)
3-3 in Philly.
   65. Alan S Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:15 PM (#2912282)
Wooo!
   66. Sam M. Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:16 PM (#2912283)
More excellent Braves' defense. Ohman not doing his job.
   67. Lassus Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:16 PM (#2912284)
Carlos Delgado makes things happen.

Also, the throw could have led him a bit more. Not ENTIRELY the pitcher's fault.
   68. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:17 PM (#2912285)
4-3 Nats.
   69. Sam M. Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:18 PM (#2912286)
Not ENTIRELY the pitcher's fault.

True, but his late break didn't help Prado's cause. It forced him to rush the thing. But he still could/should have made a better throw.
   70. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:19 PM (#2912288)
Let's give Petey a chance for a W.
   71. Alan S Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:20 PM (#2912289)
That was disappointing.
   72. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:20 PM (#2912290)
Just missed.
   73. Sam M. Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:20 PM (#2912291)
Ooooooooohhhh, just a bit short.
   74. Lassus Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:20 PM (#2912292)
Gary, you bastard, you deked us, Steiner-style.
   75. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:21 PM (#2912293)
I thought he got it.
   76. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:24 PM (#2912295)
I don't think Pedro should have started this inning.
   77. Alan S Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:26 PM (#2912297)
I agree, Russlan. Pedro should have started the inning instead.
   78. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:26 PM (#2912298)
DP!
   79. Alan S Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:27 PM (#2912299)
You should not get doubled off by that much on a bunt. He pretty much just handed the ball to Castro. :)
   80. Lassus Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:27 PM (#2912300)
Ump almost got hit there, looked like.
   81. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:32 PM (#2912302)
The Nats are probably going to blow their lead. Men on first and second, no out in the eighth with Howard up.
   82. Sam M. Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:34 PM (#2912303)
Ayala: so far, so good.
   83. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:34 PM (#2912304)
Howard strikes out.
   84. Alan S Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:36 PM (#2912305)
Burrel -> DP. Inning over.
   85. AJM Misses Brodeur Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:36 PM (#2912306)
Larry!
   86. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:36 PM (#2912307)
Burrell GIDP! Nats still up one run going to the ninth.
   87. Sam M. Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:37 PM (#2912308)
Man, Chipper's just been brutal with the glove this series. Brutal.
   88. Alan S Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:37 PM (#2912309)
Haha through the glove.
   89. Sam M. Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:40 PM (#2912310)
Keith doing his best Nina Garcia impression. Next stop: Project Runway.
   90. Sam M. Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:43 PM (#2912312)
Runge is a Maddux/Glavine throwback ump. Gives that pitch 2-3 inches outside.
   91. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:45 PM (#2912313)
Nats looking to add an insurance run. 1st and 2nd with Lastings up.

Endy should steal early. If he's out, Reyes leads off.
   92. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:46 PM (#2912314)
Milledge makes an out but the runners advance.
   93. Sam M. Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:48 PM (#2912316)
BTW, should we assume from the double switch that Manuel intends to leave Ayala in for the 9th, even if it becomes a save situation? Or would he stay in only if it remains tied?
   94. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:48 PM (#2912317)
Blah, the pitcher's spot is up next for the Nats.
   95. Sam M. Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:48 PM (#2912318)
Really bad baseball by Endy not to have run there. Awful.
   96. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:49 PM (#2912319)
I can't believe Endy didn't try to steal there. Really disappointed.
   97. Chris Dial Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:51 PM (#2912321)
Yes, Sam, we should. Or depending on how he pitches, he plans to. And he did.
   98. Russlan is an overhyped Met BTFer Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:52 PM (#2912322)
Victorino singles to lead off the ninth.
   99. Sam M. Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:53 PM (#2912324)
Well, we'll never know if he would have left Ayala in for the save, since the Mets d/n take the lead . . .

Victorino leads off the 9th w/ a single for the Phillies.
   100. Chris Dial Posted: August 21, 2008 at 09:53 PM (#2912325)
I don't know if I have a problem with that though...
