He's afraid to come in.

Thanks Huff.

I think I'd like to see MDC in to face Mora.

i'd be afraid if i had 85 mph on the fastball
   104. ekogan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:19 PM (#2855077)
Huff swings at balls 4 and 5
   105. kevin Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:19 PM (#2855079)
Okajima got lucky there.
   106. tfbg9 Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:19 PM (#2855080)
Great. The other reliever who gets spooked with RISP.

The Pride of Hyde Park!
   108. IronChef Chris Wok Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:21 PM (#2855086)
this will still end badly
   109. tfbg9 Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:21 PM (#2855087)
Every batter essentailly turns onto Lance Berkman with RISP against MDC.
   110. tfbg9 Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:22 PM (#2855088)
Ball one. No surprise.

Coudl have sent in Timlin, every batter essentially turns into Jesus with RISP
   112. ekogan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:22 PM (#2855090)
Hyde Park is probably more proud of Maura Tierney than MDC
   113. kevin Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:23 PM (#2855092)
MDC comes through.
   114. tfbg9 Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:24 PM (#2855096)
I'll take it.
   115. PJ Martinez Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:29 PM (#2855099)
I thought Maura Tierney was from Arlington or Watertown or something.
   116. ekogan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:29 PM (#2855101)
Lowrie doesn't do a good job of fighting back with two strikes
   117. Dan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:30 PM (#2855102)
Poor Papelbon. They made him do a commercial for Sox Appeal.
   118. Dan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:32 PM (#2855103)
Soooooooooooo slow
   119. ekogan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:33 PM (#2855104)
Sean Casey should stop trying to pretend he can run
   120. ekogan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:34 PM (#2855107)
Poor Papelbon. They made him do a commercial for Sox Appeal.

Looking like an idiot is his specialty
   121. ekogan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:38 PM (#2855111)
MDC likes to live dangerously
   122. Dan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:38 PM (#2855112)
Drew is good at outfielding.
   123. ekogan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:40 PM (#2855114)
The purpose of outfielding is creating outs.
The purpose of infielding is ...?
   124. Dan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:42 PM (#2855118)
There's the Jay Payton I remember.
   125. ekogan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:45 PM (#2855122)
TBS couldn't find a sexier woman for it's crowd reaction shots?
   126. Dan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:46 PM (#2855123)
I'm still bullish on Delcarmen. Hansen is the one that doesn't convince me.
   127. ekogan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:52 PM (#2855130)

I agree
   128. kevin Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:52 PM (#2855132)
Nice to have a 2 run lead going into the ninth.

They didn't score a whole lot of runs today but these low scoring shutouts are great for your pythag too.
   129. Benji Gil Gamesh Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:53 PM (#2855133)
So at what point, if any, would Ellsbury's slump get him booted from the leadoff spot?
   130. Dan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:54 PM (#2855135)
I imagine the only way he'd be moved down in the order is if he continues going this poorly until Ortiz is back. Then you'd probably see Pedroia batting leadoff with Youkilis 2nd.
   131. ekogan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:54 PM (#2855136)
So at what point, if any, would Ellsbury's slump get him booted from the leadoff spot?

Never. He's not slumping that badly
   132. ekogan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:59 PM (#2855141)
Alex Cora is not a major league shortstop
   133. Benji Gil Gamesh Posted: July 13, 2008 at 04:59 PM (#2855144)

Never. He's not slumping that badly

He's .252/.275/.329 in the 35 G before today, with a 25/4 K/BB.
   134. kevin Posted: July 13, 2008 at 05:00 PM (#2855146)
He'll be fine.
   135. kevin Posted: July 13, 2008 at 05:00 PM (#2855147)
Oh ####. C'mon Paps.
   136. ekogan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 05:01 PM (#2855148)
Markakis is the greek god of foul balls
   137. Benji Gil Gamesh Posted: July 13, 2008 at 05:02 PM (#2855149)
He'll be fine.

I think he will eventually as well, I just wonder if they'll bump him down at some point, have Tito say they're doing it because he's "pressing" or whatever.
   138. ekogan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 05:03 PM (#2855151)
Tito doesn't like to bump down struggling players. Doesn't want to damage their confidence
   139. ekogan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 05:04 PM (#2855154)
Dammit Papelbon.
Every Sox pitcher in this game is wild
   140. ekogan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 05:04 PM (#2855155)
Markakis is the greek god of swinging at ball fours
   141. Dan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 05:05 PM (#2855156)
Threw a good splitter.

Not bumping down struggling players is good managing even if you ignore psychological effects. You have no idea when a guy is going to turn it around and go back to hitting like he should. If you have good reason to bat a guy at one spot in the order, <100 ABs shouldn't change your mind.
   142. kevin Posted: July 13, 2008 at 05:07 PM (#2855157)
Gun say Pap threw a 91 fastball. Must have been a splitter.
   143. Dan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 05:07 PM (#2855158)
It was a split, kevin. Gun had a splitter at 91 and one at 92
   144. ekogan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 05:08 PM (#2855160)
I miss the dominating Papelbon
   145. ekogan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 05:09 PM (#2855164)
Dustin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
   146. Dan Posted: July 13, 2008 at 05:10 PM (#2855165)
I'll take it.

Mora ties the AL record for men LOB
