Would it make sense to play Ellsbury in left from a strategic standpoint? He's so fast, he can play so shallow and basically take away all the line drive singles.

Got him.

C'mon, one more, Jon, and you can hit the showers.
   105. kevin Posted: September 02, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2926620)
Remember when everybody gave me #### about comparing him to Wright? Who's laughing now, #############?!!!
   106. Fancy Pants Handle Posted: September 02, 2008 at 08:55 PM (#2926626)
I think Ellsbury still has more value in CF. Plus, you'd be focred to play Coco over Bay/Drew/Kotsay.
   107. Fancy Pants Handle Posted: September 02, 2008 at 08:57 PM (#2926629)
I turned off the sound, because I figured it would turn into a complete giggle fest in the booth. Going by the images I'm seeing I am right...
   108. kevin Posted: September 02, 2008 at 08:57 PM (#2926630)
I know but I was just asking the question from a academic standpoint.
   109. kevin Posted: September 02, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2926632)
See what I mean? Bailey handled that AB with poise.
   110. kevin Posted: September 02, 2008 at 09:02 PM (#2926642)
Trembley doesn't look pleased.
   111. tfbg9 Posted: September 02, 2008 at 09:08 PM (#2926651)
Good to see Lowrie swing the bat good again.
   112. kevin Posted: September 02, 2008 at 09:08 PM (#2926652)
Really, teddy.
   113. tfbg9 Posted: September 02, 2008 at 09:09 PM (#2926653)
Jed is hitting a lot of doubles.

Think they'll walk Papi to get tp Pedroia?

No way, with the way Pedroia is hitting.
   115. kevin Posted: September 02, 2008 at 09:12 PM (#2926657)
Wouldn't it be something if Pedroia went deep again?
   116. tfbg9 Posted: September 02, 2008 at 09:12 PM (#2926658)
Here's Dusty!
   117. tfbg9 Posted: September 02, 2008 at 09:13 PM (#2926659)
2-1...he's waling away--watch!
   118. tfbg9 Posted: September 02, 2008 at 09:13 PM (#2926660)
Yep.
   119. kevin Posted: September 02, 2008 at 09:14 PM (#2926662)
damn.
   120. PJ Martinez Posted: September 02, 2008 at 09:16 PM (#2926663)
Pedroia's been amazing, but it's still a bit much to compare him to Wright.
   121. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: September 02, 2008 at 09:16 PM (#2926664)
Yanks up 5-1. It's looking good to cut the lead down to 4 games.
   122. tfbg9 Posted: September 02, 2008 at 09:16 PM (#2926665)
Root 'em in--gotta go. Be good, take care.
   123. tfbg9 Posted: September 02, 2008 at 09:17 PM (#2926667)
BTW--I'm not sure these "MVP" chants will help the kid down the stretch. Dunno...OK, bye!

Pedroia's been amazing, but it's still a bit much to compare him to Wright.

Adjusted for position and league, Pedroia compares favorably to Wright right now, PJ.

Part of what's so much fun about this team is that it's young. Pedroia, Lowrie, Ellsbury and Lester are major parts of the team; Masterson is coming along nicely; and all five are 25 or under. Youks, Matsuzaka, Bay, Beckett, Paps, and MDC are all on the right side of 30 (admittedly not for much longer as far as Youks and Bay, but it's not like these guys are creaking yet).

Anibal Sanchez got roughed up in Florida tonight. That game's at 13-12 in the 6th inning.
   127. PJ Martinez Posted: September 02, 2008 at 09:46 PM (#2926718)
Pedroia's current numbers may compare well with Wright's current numbers. You're still talking about a guy, in Wright's case, who put up a 139 OPS+ in 160 games at age 22. And he's kept that up for four years.

Pedroia's more fun, though. Wright's on the bland side.

What's that, 80 RBI for D-Ped? If Tito keeps hitting him fourth, I'd say he's got a shot at 100, and he's probably the MVP if he gets there.
   129. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: September 02, 2008 at 09:59 PM (#2926741)
What's that, 80 RBI for D-Ped?

Only 75. 100 seems unlikely.

In a bizarre circumstance in the Atlanta-Florida game, Julian Tavarez is brought in to face Hanley Ramirez with the bases loaded, one out, and the Braves ahead 14-13. Even more surprisingly, he got Hanley to pop out and then struck out the next batter to end the inning.
   131. PJ Martinez Posted: September 02, 2008 at 10:02 PM (#2926747)
He's at 75 according to sportsline. But ~.330/20 HR/85-90 RBIs could put him in the discussion this year. And hitting so well in the clean-up spot will make him seem more impressive to a bunch of voters, I suspect, if it gets enough attention.

In terms of reachable goals, I imagine he's got to get to 20 HRs to even be considered.
   132. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: September 02, 2008 at 10:19 PM (#2926791)
Wow. 20 hits.
   133. Mike Hampton's #1 Fan Posted: September 02, 2008 at 10:25 PM (#2926808)
And Pedroia's up to .330.
   134. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: September 02, 2008 at 10:29 PM (#2926814)
Wait, Joba is pitching in relief again?
   135. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: September 02, 2008 at 10:36 PM (#2926834)
We win, Yanks win, lead is 4 games. Sounds good to me.

Ellsbury was a lot closer to Crisp than 15 feet on that play. He almost caught him; I'd say he was 4 feet from him, tops, before Hale stopped him.

It was obvious Lester was coming out after 5, with a 20 run lead and 100 pitches thrown.

I was listening to the game in VA. At one point, Joe Angel, the O's announcer, said, "and we're glad to welcome WKRP in Cincinnati to the Orioles Radio network. They really love the O's in Cincy. Johnny Fever is the GM there now... scratch that, WARK in Hagerstown."

(Not an exact quote.)

Angel also added, in the 6th, that his booth partner else would be taking over broadcasting duties the rest of the way, to the "oh no!" of said booth partner.

So this night was not without enjoyment to me.
