Jesus - I'll take the two but how are we not in front there?

Pedroia over .500 - sweet
   104. Golfing Great Mitch Cumstein Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:26 PM (#2927942)
what happened? Gamecast froze up after 1-2 on Varitek
   105. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:26 PM (#2927943)
According to ESPN, Pedroia 332/377/503

Pedroia's optimistic ZiPS projection: .314/.388/.481

Conversely, Ellsbury's pessimistic ZiPS projection: .276/.317/.348

apparently varitek's at bat never happened. or so says gameday.

The 1-1 looked like a strike
   108. Dan Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:30 PM (#2927948)
And Varitek drops another easily catchable tip.

That was ball 4 - terrible ump
   111. DKDC Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:33 PM (#2927953)
You've got to be kidding me. I'm sick of watching umps take over the game. I give up.
   112. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:33 PM (#2927954)
That pitch was flat out nasty.
   113. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:34 PM (#2927955)
Wait, you guys thought that was a ball? That broke over the inner edge of the plate to my eyes.
   114. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:34 PM (#2927956)
Cora - Crisp and Ellsbury

See you guys in 5 minutes for the 10th inning
   115. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:35 PM (#2927962)
Well, NESN's K-Zone says it was a ball.
   116. plink Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:35 PM (#2927963)
Gameday had strike 3 about 6 inches inside. Nearly hitting the (stationary) batter's front arm.
   117. ekogan Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:35 PM (#2927964)
At least the ump's wide strike zone has benefited both teams.
   118. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:35 PM (#2927966)
I thought it missed Biff and so did Amica by a mile
   119. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:36 PM (#2927968)
Bunt him to second, hope Ellsbury or Lowrie can get a hit.
   120. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:37 PM (#2927969)
Joey ####### Cora
   121. Dan Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:37 PM (#2927970)
It was basically in the exact same location as the called strike to Ellsbury in his last AB. Which is to say that it was a ball to any half decent umpire, but has been a strike several times today already for both teams.
   122. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:37 PM (#2927972)
Wow, that was weird. Hit a pebble or something.
   123. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:38 PM (#2927976)
Wow - that was lucky
   124. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:38 PM (#2927977)
Coco probably should have concentrated on running rather than looking back at it, but safe anyway.

Have Ellsbury bunt now.
   125. Dan Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:38 PM (#2927978)
Crisp is lucky that he wasn't thrown out after slowing down and looking back at the ball. ####### idiot.
   126. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:39 PM (#2927979)
What a bizarre way to win the game. I'll take it.

(Shitty bunt by Ellsbury, by the way.)
   127. Dan Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:39 PM (#2927980)
That is one of the oddest walk-off wins I've seen, but I'll take it!
   128. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:39 PM (#2927982)
!!!!!!!!!
   129. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:40 PM (#2927983)
Wow, that throw wasn't even close.
   130. Golfing Great Mitch Cumstein Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:40 PM (#2927984)
details?
   131. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:40 PM (#2927987)
What a shocking throw
   132. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:41 PM (#2927989)
Mitch - he tried to throw Cora out at third and the ball landed near the monster

   134. Dan Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:42 PM (#2927994)
Damn, looks like I owe Biff two cokes for 127 and 129. Weird.
   135. plink Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:42 PM (#2927995)
Gameday's been stuck on "In play, run(s)" for a while now. What happened?!
   136. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:42 PM (#2927996)
Pedroia is hitting over .400 in the last two months??

jesus - is that true?
   137. Mike Hampton's #1 Fan Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:42 PM (#2927997)
Weird win, but hey. Every win pushes the Yankees closer to an early golf date.

Man. Pedroia. Just unbe####inglievable. Did even kevin expect him to be this good?
   138. Fancy Pants Handle Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:43 PM (#2927999)
I'll definately take it.

But I was hoping for Ellsbury to be throwen out on the bunt, Lowrie to K, intentional BB to Papi, to set up the walk-off slam to Baggins...
   139. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:43 PM (#2928000)
He had Cora dead with a decent throw, but he just airmailed it nowhere near the bag.
   140. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:44 PM (#2928003)
Pedroia is ####### insane, btw
   141. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:44 PM (#2928004)
But I was hoping for Ellsbury to be throwen out on the bunt, Lowrie to K, intentional BB to Papi, to set up the walk-off slam to Baggins...

With the way Pedroia's hitting, I think they'd take their chances with Ortiz.
   142. PJ Martinez Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:44 PM (#2928006)
Did even kevin expect him to be this good?

Better, actually.
   143. Fancy Pants Handle Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:46 PM (#2928008)
Pedroia is hitting over .400 in the last two months??

Nope, .361 since July 3rd. .409 OBP and .548 SLg.
   144. PJ Martinez Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:47 PM (#2928011)
Slacker.
   145. Fancy Pants Handle Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:48 PM (#2928013)
He's hit .400 since Aug 4th though...
   146. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:48 PM (#2928014)
The O's were nursing a 4-0 lead, but Boston tied it in the eighth on mark Kotsay's two-run triple, then Joey Cora scored to win it.

Thats on the front page of mlb.com.

Even they call him Joey - surely they are taking the piss...
   147. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 03, 2008 at 04:49 PM (#2928018)
Thanks fancy - I thought coco might have been over stating his team mates excellence a little there
   148. tfbg9 Posted: September 03, 2008 at 05:15 PM (#2928066)
Why no Papelbon? Flu?
   149. Dan Posted: September 03, 2008 at 05:30 PM (#2928088)
He was up in case they had a lead, but in the tie game Masterson stayed in for the 9th. Presumably Papelbon would have pitched a 10th inning.
   150. tfbg9 Posted: September 03, 2008 at 05:41 PM (#2928099)
Thanks. See ya's Friday, maybe.
   151. kevin Posted: September 03, 2008 at 08:07 PM (#2928215)
Better, actually.

He'll be the first .400 hitter since Williams.
