Are the yankees resting many guys today? I hope so. Chacin has looked decent, and this would be a positive end to the season for the jays. Look out for Rios, he looks warm.

Johnson has back injury, may be ready for playoffs
SportsTicker

NEW YORK -- New York Yankees pitcher Randy Johnson has a herniated disc in his lower back, but he still may start Game 3 of the American League Division Series next week.

Yankees manager Joe Torre announced Friday that an MRI revealed that Johnson has a herniated disc. At first, it was thought Johnson was experiencing back spasms when the Yankees scratched him from his last regular-season start Thursday.

Johnson, 43, was given an epidural to alleviate the pain and Torre is "hopeful" the left-hander will be able to start Game 3 of the ALDS against either Detroit or Minnesota.

"Hopefully, that [the epidural] will ease the discomfort," Torre said. "If it doesn't ease the discomfort, then I'm not sure he's going to be able to pitch. But we don't expect that to be the case."

Chien-Ming Wang and Mike Mussina will start the first two games of the ALDS for New York.

Johnson went 17-11 with a 5.00 ERA in 33 starts this season. In his last outing Saturday, Johnson surrendered five runs and seven hits in six innings in an 8-0 loss to Tampa Bay.

The Yankees (96-63) clinched their ninth straight AL East Division title Sept. 20. They lead Detroit (95-64) and Minnesota (95-64) for the best overall record in the league and home-field advantage throughout the postseason.

New York closes the regular season with a weekend series against Toronto.

Johnson's not gonna cut it in the playoffs, guaranteed.

Considering he's failed to cut it in the last two regular seasons and last year's postseason, I'm inclined to agree with your not-so-bold prediction. Even after yesterday, I still think Darrell Rasner is a superior pitcher.

That's trur it didn't take a genius to come up with that one. Troy GLaus! I wish he'd do that more with risp.

The national title is looking awfully Scarlet....

Seriously, this is a big test. If they can get through this three-game road trip unscathed, they could host Louisville undefeated. A big if, S. Florida and Pitt are not Howard, but I'd sure love to see it. What is the line on this game?

I was beginning to be concerned about Navy because they beat Stanford. Then I saw how bad Stanford is... still, Navy's no pushover either.

"Abreu grounded into double play second to first to shortstop to first to shortstop, Cano scored, Jeter out at second."

Any word on Giambi?
   28. rLr Did Your Mother 'Cause She's Hot As A Baker Posted: September 29, 2006 at 08:22 PM (#2191990)
????

Here's my guess (as I am Gamedaying it, too). Grounder in the second base line. Jeter avoids the tag, forcing the throw to first to get Abreu, then gets himself into a rundown while Cano scores.

Mussina seems to be ahead in the count on every batter. I consider that a good sign.
