Not even HFA can make Karstens a handsome man.
   2. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: September 30, 2006 at 11:39 AM (#2192278)
What happened with Giambi yesterday? He seemed to leave the game early. Given that the pitching figures to be borderline terrible, they need all the offense possible
   3. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: September 30, 2006 at 12:33 PM (#2192315)
Oh, and now that HFA is secured, has Joe said who is going to manage tomorrow's game? I know when it doesn't matter he usually lets a plyer do it, I wonder whose up
   4. Sometimes it Rains (sj) Posted: September 30, 2006 at 12:36 PM (#2192318)
I believe it would be Bernie, did anyone manage last season? I think it was Sierra in '04.
   5. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: September 30, 2006 at 12:57 PM (#2192346)
No one did it last season because the game was (ostensibly) meaningful. Didn't Bernie do it in '03? Or am I crazy? I'd like to Moose get a shot at being the pitching coach.
   6. Sometimes it Rains (sj) Posted: September 30, 2006 at 01:48 PM (#2192409)
If Bernie already managed, I am perfectly fine with Moose getting a shot.
   7. Matt Waters Posted: September 30, 2006 at 02:30 PM (#2192467)
Hey! Two things I think:

1. I think A-Rod is ironing out his swing at just the right time.
2. I think, in honor of David Cameron, every time Robinson Cano does anything substantial during a game we should say: Yippee!
   8. agodnamedpablo2 Posted: September 30, 2006 at 03:29 PM (#2192556)
Moose was pitching coach, when Clemens coached in his last year (Pettite was the bench coach)
   9. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 03:37 PM (#2192568)
Does David Cameron hang out here? For some reason I think he's posted on Primer before. I hope he does.
   10. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 03:38 PM (#2192571)
Oh yeah, you know what I can't wait to see, Cano's comps on baseballreference after the season is over.
   11. agodnamedpablo2 Posted: September 30, 2006 at 03:53 PM (#2192590)
Clemens managed
   12. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 03:59 PM (#2192600)
They should let A-rod call the pitches today.
   13. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 04:11 PM (#2192615)
1-8 is pretty nasty (Bernie Williams is a league average hitter), I can't wait to see this lineup go in the playoffs.

Cabrera in center is a good sign too.
   14. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 04:18 PM (#2192630)
Cano is nasty, and if he ever hits 30 HRs, which I don't think will definately happen, but it could happen, imagine what that would look like. Hitting .325 with 30 HRs at second, that would be sweet.
   15. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 04:20 PM (#2192635)
Mauer didn't play today, what a chach face. I wonder if he's gonna play tommorow. Probably not, makes sense though. One of Cano or Jeter is just gonna have to go 4-4 today.
   16. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 04:25 PM (#2192640)
THAT IS A NICE CATCH MELKY. Can't play center my ass.
   17. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 04:51 PM (#2192660)
Oh, Kay, stumbling around "another perfect inning for Karstens, he's retired all 12 batters he faced". You still used perfect in the sentence dude. Those slave owning Nazi's are gonna be after you again.
   18. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 04:54 PM (#2192662)
Kay is upset that Mauer might not play tommorow. Oh boy. He's a catcher Kay, and its not up to him to tell his manager he wants to play before the playoffs start.
   19. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 04:54 PM (#2192663)
Leiter, not pleased.
   20. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 04:56 PM (#2192665)
A-rod hit that a long way.

Vernon Wells plays kinda deep huh?
   21. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 04:58 PM (#2192667)
A-rod could conceivabley catch Jeter in EQA, although its gonna be tough.

Hey, Sheff hit one out. Barely got that ball over the wall though, even with help from the wind.
   22. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 05:02 PM (#2192669)
According to Micheal Kay, A-rod needs to hit a walkoff HR to end the World Series. Oh, that's all huh? The thing that's happened like twice(?) in the history of baseball. Sure thing Micheal.
   23. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 05:04 PM (#2192671)
Marcum is out already? Bummer.
   24. agodnamedpablo2 Posted: September 30, 2006 at 05:06 PM (#2192673)
What's funny about that is, if Michael Kay actually hit a walk off HR to end the World Series, I would still hate him.

That was sad.
   26. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 05:11 PM (#2192678)
There goes the perfect game Micheal, and its all your fault.
   27. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: September 30, 2006 at 05:15 PM (#2192682)
I haven't been paying too much attention as of late, but I feel like Melky's been getting some innings in in CF here and there, how has he looked?
   28. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 05:15 PM (#2192684)
Cano, not used to receiving hard throws from centerfield.
   29. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 05:17 PM (#2192686)
"how has he looked?"

He's looked good today. Made a sweet catch at the wall in left center earlier.
   30. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: September 30, 2006 at 05:22 PM (#2192691)
Congratulations Joe Mauer on your 2006 AL Batting crown.
   31. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 05:23 PM (#2192694)
Congratulations Derek Jeter on your 2006 Batting crown.
   32. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 05:26 PM (#2192699)
What will Kay say if Jeter sits out tommorow which might happen, Mauer pulls an 0-fer and Jeter wins the batting title?
   33. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: September 30, 2006 at 05:26 PM (#2192700)
What does Cano need to do to get to a .900 OPS for the year, assuming he has 5 plate appearances left.
   34. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 05:27 PM (#2192703)
Is A-rod ok? Does he just get to sit for hitting a monster HR?
   35. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: September 30, 2006 at 05:31 PM (#2192707)
Melky looking comfortable out there.
   36. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 05:32 PM (#2192708)
Ok, Melky looks smooth out there right now.
   37. Matt Waters Posted: September 30, 2006 at 05:58 PM (#2192727)
Pedro out until next June. For Met fans, it’s Uh Oh, spaghettio.
   38. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 06:06 PM (#2192740)
How does the BJs lineup stack up against the other playoff lineups? It's definately better then Detroit and Oakland right?
   39. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 06:15 PM (#2192749)
Ok, the BJs have a .275 EQA and the Twins have a .271 EQA. Minnesota has better frontline hitters and less depth, I'd rather face the lineup with good hitters all around then an offense with a team lead by Mauer and Morneau with one or two below average hitters. But Minnesota and Toronto are about even. Karstens gave up 4 runs (2 ER) in 6 and 2/3 against a lineup as good as any he's going to see in the playoffs unless they face the Mets. I think he can be the #4 guy no problem.
   40. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 06:24 PM (#2192760)
Damn, Cano does that alot for a guy who hits the ball hard almost everytime he's up, that soft bouncer that doesn't even reach the mound.
   41. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 06:28 PM (#2192766)
Remember when Vernon Wells said he was gonna steal 30 bases like two years ago?
   42. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 06:30 PM (#2192769)
Is Veras on the playoff roster?
   43. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 06:34 PM (#2192776)
Alright, this AB makes or breaks Jeter's season.
   44. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 06:37 PM (#2192780)
BASEHIT!!! .345!!! #### YEAH!
   45. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 06:42 PM (#2192785)
Miguel Cairo : Yankees as Doug Mirabelli : Red Sox?

Although Cairo is far more likeable IMO.
   46. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 06:46 PM (#2192790)
3 runs, 3 hits, a walk and a sb, not a bad tablesetting day for the Jeter.
   47. NJ in DC loathes his classmates and the law Posted: September 30, 2006 at 07:01 PM (#2192804)
CP is all alone.
   48. Cowboy Popup Posted: September 30, 2006 at 07:09 PM (#2192812)
"CP is all alone."

Yeah, no kidding.
   49. RB in NYC (Now with Christmas Spirit!) Posted: September 30, 2006 at 07:26 PM (#2192833)
To answer my own question, per Walding: Tomorrow will be Bernie managing, with Lee Mazilli as the bench coach (per Bernie's request, since he doesn't know the signs) and Mussina as the pitching coach. Moose is the pitching coach because he flipped a coin with Mo and Mo lost.
