Let me get ahead of this one and say... I don't hate Julio Lugo.

There, I said it.
   2. ellsbury my heart at wounded knee Posted: May 09, 2008 at 04:33 PM (#2774944)
Most hated Red Sox player of the past 10 years - David Wells or Julio Lugo? I also hated Mike Lansing with a passion, but that might have just been me.
   3. villageidiom Posted: May 09, 2008 at 05:15 PM (#2774983)
I haven't hated any of them, really. Maybe that explains my position on Lugo.

Right now, probably Johnny Damon is the most hated. If we restrict to "hated while with Boston" I'd say Carl Everett was up there (probably undeservedly). Jose Offerman? Dante Bichette? Tony Clark?

The bullpen probably has its own separate level of hatred. Todd Jones, Scott Sauerbeck, John Wasdin, Dustin Hermanson... I could be here all day.
   4. Dan Posted: May 09, 2008 at 05:44 PM (#2775011)
Man, I don't know how you can possibly not hate Lugo.
   5. kevin Posted: May 09, 2008 at 06:42 PM (#2775061)

I don't hate Lugo. He stinks and will be gald when he is replaced by Lowrie but I don't hate him.

Shea Hillenbrand. Now there's a guy to hate. And the reasons hw was to be hated him manifested themselves in how he played baseball: stubbornly, pig-headedly and stupidly, with a twist of redneck white trash thrown in.
   6. Answer Guy Posted: May 09, 2008 at 07:26 PM (#2775085)
I'm developing a strong dislike, at the very least, for Lugo.

I guess there is Todd Jones but that was only partially due to his suckitude. Carl Everett even though he was good for them - at first. (Man, did *his* stock plummet over the course of a season and change.)
   7. Dan Posted: May 09, 2008 at 07:38 PM (#2775092)
I hadn't realized how bad the Twins' offense is.
   8. Dan Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:09 PM (#2775112)
I love how Remy and Orsillo are talking about how the Twins are exceeding expectations and leading the AL Central, etc etc. THEY'RE ONE GAME OVER .500 GUYS.
   9. villageidiom Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:10 PM (#2775117)
I had originally put Wil Cordero on the list, but he wasn't in the last 10 years. Man, time flies.

Looking at the infield at the Metrodome, I like how they groomed the concentric circles in the infield... uh, turf. Is that even legal?
   10. villageidiom Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:12 PM (#2775118)

"Yes, Don, I am surprised at how the Twins have not managed to fall into the vortex of suck like the rest of the division."
   11. villageidiom Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:15 PM (#2775125)
Wow. Nice play at first.
   12. Dan Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:15 PM (#2775127)
That was a weird, weird play at first.

* tap * tap * tap *

Is this thing on?
   14. villageidiom Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:16 PM (#2775130)
Papi continues to rule the Land of Selective Endpoints.
   15. villageidiom Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:18 PM (#2775134)
As much as I'd like to see Manny hit one out... I have tickets for 5/17, and I'd like to see #500 live.
   16. villageidiom Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:20 PM (#2775136)
That said, I'd have preferred a HR to a K.

Morning, my friends
   18. villageidiom Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:22 PM (#2775140)
Morning, Phil.

Thank you, Manny.

Thanks, vi!

Have I mentioned how much I ####### hate this place and playing here. Can't wait till they knock this piece of #### down
   21. Dan Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2775143)
Goddamnit Jacoby.
   22. villageidiom Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2775144)

I hope you like snow.

Lugo is a grub - I hate him. Not my most hated though - that's Millar

Bush league Jacoby
   24. Dan Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2775146)
So two seeing eye grounders and now they have 2 RISP.
   25. Dan Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:29 PM (#2775149)
Well, Igawa was predictably horrendous against Detroit. I still find it hard to fathom that they didn't have a better option than him against that RH-heavy lineup.
   26. Dan Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:32 PM (#2775154)
Three ####### seeing eye grounders in one inning. What a joke.
   27. villageidiom Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:32 PM (#2775156)
mrsidiom and I went to a game at the Metrodome back in 2000. I think it was this game. We had a good time.

That said, they could've played the game in the middle of the Mississippi River and we would've had a good time.

Another hit in just the right spot. Sorry, Lester.
   28. villageidiom Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2775157)
Well, Igawa was predictably horrendous against Detroit.

Wow, 6-1 in the 4th.
   29. Dan Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2775158)
And one of the outs in the inning was due to stupid baserunning too.
   30. Chip Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:36 PM (#2775162)
How many batters has Lester thrown a first-pitch strike to so far? Two? Awful.

Also couldn't close out Cuddyer with two strikes, letting him foul off one after another until he got something he could handle. Another bad sign.
   31. villageidiom Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:38 PM (#2775164)
Good evening, Chip. And a belated hi to Dan.
   32. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:38 PM (#2775165)
I'm thinking we'd be better off if Mauer hadn't reached second on that dribbler through the middle.

Twins 14-7 here at the ######## since 2001
   33. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2775167)
Hard hit - straight at him!
   34. Dan Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2775169)
Is that at the "Fukudome" there in 32, Phil?
   35. villageidiom Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2775170)
The Greek God of Strikeouts, too, apparently.

   37. Chip Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:41 PM (#2775173)
I'm glad he reached, but WTF kind of AB was that from Youkilis?

And WTF is that strike two call to Drew?
   38. Dan Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:41 PM (#2775174)
When even Drew is looking back questioning your calls, you're doing something wrong, Angel.
   39. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:41 PM (#2775175)
The 0-1 to Drew was not a strike. #### #### ####
   40. villageidiom Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2775176)
And the Greek God of Steals.
   41. Chip Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2775177)
Power AND speed? Youkilis is now a five tool star?
   42. Dan Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2775178)
Hmmm, Ellsbury, Drew, and Lugo need to reach if even YOukilis is stealing off of Bonser.
   43. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2775179)
How the #### does Youks get a steal?
   44. Dan Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2775180)
Drew seems to be warming up lately, hitting some liners again.
   45. Chip Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2775181)
Here comes the DP.
   46. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2775182)
great hitting by Drew
   47. villageidiom Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2775183)
Youkilis is now a five tool star?

Yes, if one of the tools is "horrible goatee".

   51. Chip Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:46 PM (#2775191)
Hey, Tek hit a LD as a lefty! Bonser really sucks.
   52. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:46 PM (#2775192)

(and I know it's second and third, but Julio will find the way)
   55. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2775195)
See Drew hustles and he is a dirt dog!!!
   56. Dan Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2775197)
Bonser's suckitude will be determined by his ability to allow Lugo to do something other than K or ground out weakly to SS.
   57. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2775199)
(and I know it's second and third, but Julio will find the way)

hilarious
   58. Dan Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2775200)
Technically the third baseman fielded it, but that was pretty much the expected result.
   59. Chip Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2775201)
Bonser really sucks. He let Lugo actually get the run home.
   60. villageidiom Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2775202)
An RBI for the likable Julio Lugo.
   61. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2775203)

Gomez and Ellsbury are going to go after each other in center field? Is this after the game? During the 7th inning stretch?
   63. Dan Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2775206)
So is Ellsbury the Navajo God of Walks?

Someone, somewhere, needs to produce a "Two Minutes Hate" film for Red Sox fans in which Lugo replaces Emmanuel Goldstein.

The loser on the Twins broadcast voted for Demon Young over Pedroia for ROY
   69. Chip Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2775221)
Bonser amping it up against Pedroia: that last fastball fouled off for strike two at 94 was his fastest of the game, I think.
   70. villageidiom Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2775223)
Demon Young

Best. Typo. Ever.
   71. Dan Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2775224)
Hit 95 MPH on the strikeout pitch. Pedroia has been swinging at ####### everything.
   72. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2775225)
unintentional of course!
   73. Chip Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:56 PM (#2775227)
Pedroia's K-rate is well ahead of last year's pace.
   74. Dan Posted: May 09, 2008 at 08:56 PM (#2775228)
His walk rate is a bit down as well.
   75. Chip Posted: May 09, 2008 at 09:01 PM (#2775232)
Ugh. What a bad pitch with count leverage. An inside changeup.
