Apparently Drew is out with vertigo.
   2. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 06:59 PM (#2800288)
The A's DFAed DiNardo, maybe we can get him to replace Lopez as LOOGy?
   3. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:03 PM (#2800291)
Matsuzaka detailed with "mild shoulder strain" which they sound pretty bullish about; Bailey called up to replace him on the roster, so you'll likely see him against the lefties in this series.
   4. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:06 PM (#2800296)
Is Bailey's defense in the outfield at least better than godawful? It seems like he's probably a better RH bat than Kielty at this point, but Kielty is a fine fielder in right at Fenway, whereas Bailey is probably not so great.
   5. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:07 PM (#2800300)
I'll take that, but damn that was close.
   6. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:08 PM (#2800301)
What the ####?

Now Pedroia is going to bunt whenever Ellsbury is on 2nd?
   7. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:09 PM (#2800304)
Between the not walking like Shea Hillenbrand, and the excessive bunting like Derek Jeter, Pedroia is doing his best to make himself hateable lately. STOP IT!
   8. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:10 PM (#2800306)
If he could run like Jeter, the bunts wouldn't be so bad. But he doesn't really have a good chance of beating any of them out.
   9. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:11 PM (#2800309)
Three hits, and a free out.

#### you for trying to kill a really big inning, Petey.
   10. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:11 PM (#2800310)
GLad you gave away that out, Dusty.
   11. Marcel Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:11 PM (#2800311)
I think the slump is over
   12. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:12 PM (#2800314)
Well, at least Lowell brought in one of the runs.
   13. tfbg9 Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:13 PM (#2800315)
Evening boys.
   14. tfbg9 Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:14 PM (#2800316)
Vertogo? WTF? How does that happen? Inner ear?
   15. tfbg9 Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:14 PM (#2800317)
*vertigo*
   16. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:14 PM (#2800319)
Good to see them driving the ball in the air even on outs. Youk and Lowell both got a bit under hittable pitches, but last time vs. Cabrera everyone was grounding out.
   17. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:14 PM (#2800320)
I think they said it was an inner ear infection.
   18. tfbg9 Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:18 PM (#2800322)
The old 17 pitch leadoff AB...
   19. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:20 PM (#2800323)
Got it in just enough. At least it ended in an out.

Thanks, Mora.
   20. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:21 PM (#2800325)
As in Beckett's last start against them, everyone hacking early in the count.
   21. tfbg9 Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:21 PM (#2800326)
Palmer's not bad. Not bad at all, I say.
   22. tfbg9 Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:23 PM (#2800330)
Bailey seems to have that AAA thing figured out...
   23. tfbg9 Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:24 PM (#2800333)
Cabrera's legs are freakishly long.
   24. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:24 PM (#2800337)
Cabrera yet to get a ground ball.
   25. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:26 PM (#2800340)
This looks more like the Cabrera I'm used to seeing.

I can't say I've ever seen someone take second on a walk like that.
   26. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:27 PM (#2800341)
Can't remember the last time I saw a guy take second on a ball four/strike three WP/PB.
   27. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:27 PM (#2800342)
#### you Cora.
   28. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:28 PM (#2800343)
Oh what the ####, Cora?
   29. Joe Bivens, Ditch Digger Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:29 PM (#2800347)
No can el bunto.
   30. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:40 PM (#2800358)
Good job Tek.
   31. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:41 PM (#2800359)
Nice throw, Varitek. Really. Beautiful.
   32. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:44 PM (#2800360)
Jesus, Beckett almost blew that one by not breaking immediately.
   33. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:44 PM (#2800361)
White Sox load the bases with 1 out vs Shields, but Swisher grounds into a DP.
   34. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:48 PM (#2800363)
Hey - seems like I missed all the fun. WTF is up with Pedroia, this is becoming a joke...
   35. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:49 PM (#2800364)
That was a terrible pitch. Almost disappointed that Ortiz only ended up with a double on it.
   36. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:50 PM (#2800365)
c'mon Manny
   37. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:50 PM (#2800367)
Happy Birthday Manny - glad to see you are a Gemini - we rule
   38. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:51 PM (#2800368)
Orioles OF alignment leaving a huge RCF gap for Manny.
   39. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:51 PM (#2800371)
Ugh, home run cut from Manny on ball 4 there.
   40. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:52 PM (#2800372)
Manny swung for 500 there, and chased. Stupid.
   41. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:52 PM (#2800374)
Swings at ball 4 - damn
   42. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:53 PM (#2800375)
And Lowell swings at a ball at his ankles up 2-1.
   43. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:53 PM (#2800376)
And Lowell chases in a hitter's count. ####.
   44. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:54 PM (#2800378)
It would be nice if Tampa lost tonight and we won to get back even in the East.
   45. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:56 PM (#2800381)
Standup fastball.

Fails.

Again.
   46. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:58 PM (#2800387)
Unbelievable.

Pedroia's sophomore slump now embraces his fielding. He ###### up the last series here, too.
   47. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 30, 2008 at 07:59 PM (#2800390)
Jesus - that runner better not score
   48. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:03 PM (#2800392)
I think it is safe to say that the Cubs ended the Rockies season with that comeback today...
   49. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:05 PM (#2800393)
I couldn't believe that game. It was 9-1 when I left to hit some balls at the driving range, grabbed some food after and came home and saw that the Cubs won.
   50. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:05 PM (#2800395)
Beckett's control still isn't there. He's missing badly on a lot of pitches, falling behind against too many batters, throwing a ton of pitches.
   51. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:06 PM (#2800397)
Just go after markakis josh - #### Roberts at second
   52. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:07 PM (#2800403)
It was 9-1 when I left to hit some balls at the driving range,

How'd you hit em??
   53. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:10 PM (#2800412)
Not that great, but i hadn't swung a club really since last July. And I got a blister on my thumb too, so I didn't end up finishing the bucket since I didn't want to tear it open.
   54. Joe Bivens, Ditch Digger Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:10 PM (#2800413)
Live cursing!
   55. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:13 PM (#2800420)
Hey Bivens - how goes it?

I hate driving ranges Dan except to practice from 100 metres in - then it is fun.
   56. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:14 PM (#2800421)
Cabrera has settled in since Cora ###### up that bunt. Good job, savvy veteran.
   57. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:15 PM (#2800429)
Grand, Aubrey Huff.
   58. Joe Bivens, Ditch Digger Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:16 PM (#2800430)
Very well, Phil, thanks. How's the family? Are the twins crawling?
   59. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:16 PM (#2800431)
Beckett is allowing a worrisome amount of home runs.
   60. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:17 PM (#2800433)
Hawk waxing lyrical about how great the White Sox are and how with a few more adjustments the central has no chance...

Was that ####### Huff?? Ugh
   61. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:17 PM (#2800436)
Not a horrible pitch, but continuing to reinforce that this is 2006 Beckett Redux Edition, not the 2007 ace.
   62. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:19 PM (#2800442)
Very well, Phil, thanks. How's the family? Are the twins crawling?

Not quite crawling but close - they are really well. Lu is a little sick today and saving her energy for the big World Cup qualifier Australia has in Brisbane tomorrow.

It's the first sporting event we will have been together since a Red Sox win over Anaheim at Fenway in 2005.
   63. Joe Bivens, Ditch Digger Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:20 PM (#2800443)
Metres...heh, that reminds me of a stry. A guy I was playing with last year had a new GPS distance tool, and he was giving the other 3 of us in the group yardages. All of his yardages seemed short. One hole, he'd say "132", and I'd hit my 130 club, and come up way short. After a few more times where his advice made me come up short, I stopped listening. Later in the round he told us "####, sorry guys, I had the thing set for meters, not yards."
   64. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:20 PM (#2800445)
If the White Sox are so great, why have their squanders today put the Red Sox to shame?
   65. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:25 PM (#2800454)
One small good sign: Ellsbury finally producing something on the road.
   66. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2800456)
Later in the round he told us "####, sorry guys, I had the thing set for meters, not yards."

That's hilarious. When I was playing at Pinehurst in 2000 I got done a few times because I would play metres and not yards. First hole at the #2 course with 140 in and I hit 8 iron all the way over the back and took a frigging double bogey...Was hard to adjust because it still looked like the metres yardage...

Here comes a bunt...
   67. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2800460)
If the White Sox are so great, why have their squanders today put the Red Sox to shame?

Mosaic back and running and I hear the great Hawk during ad breaks - geez he is an idiot.
   68. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2800462)
Incredibly weak contact for a 2-0 swing.
   69. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:31 PM (#2800469)
We're going to lose this game, aren't we?
   70. Joe Bivens, Ditch Digger Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:32 PM (#2800474)
That depends who you are rooting for, Dan.
   71. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:32 PM (#2800476)
This team annoys me more than last year - something is missing. They'll be back soon but are like watching the Celtics play - you never know what team is going to turn up.

I guess if baseball was consistent I wouldn't be watching however...
   72. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:33 PM (#2800477)
Sure looking like all the other games on this road trip. Except for the shocking early scoring, which still felt like a squander.
   73. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:33 PM (#2800478)
This team is missing Jed Lowrie.
   74. Joe Bivens, Ditch Digger Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2800480)
When the Globe ran minor league stats this week, none of the teams had Masterson on their roster. Why?
   75. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:36 PM (#2800481)
Probably because he had just gone to AAA and not pitched there yet.
   76. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2800485)
Now he's going to 3-2 on Freddie ###### Bynum, and giving up hard contact when he does.

Also, it's clear now that Pedroia spent his off night in Baltimore cruising every bar in the Inner Harbor until the wee hours.
   77. Joe Bivens, Ditch Digger Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2800487)
But the AA team didn't have him, either.
   78. Joe Bivens, Ditch Digger Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:38 PM (#2800489)
Pedroia made a pretty good play last inning.
   79. Joe Bivens, Ditch Digger Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:40 PM (#2800497)
He dove into that one.
   80. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:41 PM (#2800500)
Probably one more inning for Beckett, he's at 85 pitches after 5.
   81. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2800505)
I'm already completely sick of this Coldplay song in the iTunes ad, which sounds like every other Coldplay song. Especially since it's on every commercial break in every inning of every game when you flip around.
   82. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2800510)
Squander time.
   83. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2800512)
A rare groundball tonight, and it gets through.
   84. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2800513)
Breaking ball right over the plate taken by Youkilis for strike 1.
   85. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2800516)
I don't mind taking the first pitch breaking ball, in quest of something better later in the AB. Unless it's a real hanger, which that didn't appear to be, you're not likely to make good contact on it.
   86. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2800519)
Looked like a pretty flat and very hittable pitch to me.
   87. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2800522)
I ####### hate Coldplay. I hear he wrote a song about his wife who masquerades as an actress as well
   88. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2800523)
What's he complaining about? They are high and outside
   89. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2800526)
82. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2800510)
Squander time.
   90. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:56 PM (#2800527)
Coco missed a hittable pitch on 2-0, then chased on 2-1. Way to work that count leverage. Then beat a sinker into the ground on 2-2 that may have been a ball.

This offense sucks. Can't sustain a rally or get a two-out hit to save it's life.
   91. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:56 PM (#2800528)
This is terrible - this offence needs to wake the #### up - they are rubbish right now
   92. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 08:56 PM (#2800529)
5 doubles in 6 innings, yet only 2 runs.
   93. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 09:02 PM (#2800536)
Now you walk Kevin Millar?!
   94. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 30, 2008 at 09:03 PM (#2800537)
Terrible walk - jesus
   95. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2800540)
Yeah, walk Scott too. Good plan!
   96. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 30, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2800541)
Behind 3-1 to Scott - jesus

   98. Chip Posted: May 30, 2008 at 09:07 PM (#2800546)
Oh for ##### sake, throw strikes.
   99. Dan Posted: May 30, 2008 at 09:07 PM (#2800547)
You should probably leave him in until he walks the bases loaded, Tito. Maybe even let him walk Jones to walk a run in.
   100. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: May 30, 2008 at 09:08 PM (#2800550)
This is a ####### joke - this team is just trying to drive us crazy
