Can this team possibly win on the road? Can the bullpen not walk the ballpark? Can they ever get a key 2-out hit? Stay tuned!
   2. Chip Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:11 PM (#2842390)
Will one of these teams fall to fourth place in the AL East by Monday morning?
   3. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:14 PM (#2842391)
God damn it Manny. Just because they ###### it up doesn't mean that wasn't terrible.
   4. Chip Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:14 PM (#2842393)
Captain Clutch!
   5. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:15 PM (#2842394)
Look what Manny's suck has done to me. I can't even enjoy the ###### by Captain Intangibles...well, not as much as usual, anyway.
   6. Chip Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:16 PM (#2842395)
Yeah, 2-0 count, runner in scoring position, guy you own historically, in a ballpark you find very comfortable to hit in, that's some pretty awful contact.
   7. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:17 PM (#2842397)
Stupid Replacement Level jerks deprive our Chatter of all the Yankees fans.

HAHAHAH, Damon's arm is so bad. That was entertaining.
   8. Chip Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:18 PM (#2842399)
Even Coco and Jacoby have better arms than that.

And as Remy points out, either Captain Clutch or ARod failed to set up as cutoff man.
   9. Chip Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:19 PM (#2842400)
Youks swings at ball three.

Off to a brilliant start...

   14. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:24 PM (#2842407)
I miss you guys.

Thou hast forsaken us. Or something.

Oh good, Old "I Can't Throw Anything Close to the Zone, Let Alone Strikes" Lester has decided to show up.
   16. ekogan Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:25 PM (#2842409)
The Red Sox are leading the wild card race and are in second place in AL East.
That's Boston's natural position

THROW A FRAKKING STRIKE DAMMIT

Gift call to Jeter.
   20. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:27 PM (#2842413)
####. If the ump calls that one a strike, that's two outs right there.
   21. IronChef Chris Wok Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:27 PM (#2842414)
OH C'MON
   22. Chip Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:27 PM (#2842415)
Same location as strike three to Ellsbury.
   23. Chip Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:29 PM (#2842417)
Strike one to Abreu was ball four to Damon.
   24. Chip Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:30 PM (#2842418)
Of course NESN, in its infinite producing wisdom, has decided it hasn't been necessary to show us an Amica Zone view at all in the bottom of this inning.
   25. Chip Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:30 PM (#2842419)
Good job taking that extra time to go four steps to make the throw Lugo.
   26. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:30 PM (#2842420)
####### Lugo. So useless.
   27. ekogan Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:31 PM (#2842421)
Lugo cost the Sox the DP by taking the ball to 2nd base himself
   28. IronChef Chris Wok Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:31 PM (#2842422)
Dammit Lugo
   29. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:31 PM (#2842423)

Lugo's utter lack of baseball knowledge or instinct continues to pay dividends for opponents.

F!@# YOU LUGO DIE IN A FIRE
   34. konaforever Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:32 PM (#2842429)
LUGO has the IQ of a turnip.
   35. Chip Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:33 PM (#2842430)
Don't demean turnips like that.
   36. konaforever Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:33 PM (#2842432)
To be honest, I hated the signing from day one!

   39. IronChef Chris Wok Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:33 PM (#2842435)
I hated Lugo before he got here.
   40. konaforever Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:34 PM (#2842437)
Sorry turnips:-(

   43. Chip Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:34 PM (#2842441)
Strike one and strike two to Giambi same as strike one to Abreu, which was somehow ball four to Damon.
   44. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:35 PM (#2842442)
Nice, no runs.

Lugo isn't useless. He's a good doorstop.

I like the YES announcers better than Remy & Orsillo - there's less dead air, more actual baseball analysis, they aren't too homerish and don't go into weird off-topic discussions like Remy.

Michael Kay?????????
   53. ekogan Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:37 PM (#2842454)
Michael Kay

He's much better than any ESPN or Fox announcers

Kay: "Francona compared Varitek to Jeter"
Excellent comparison - both are overrated, both suck this year

Send Coco here?
   59. IronChef Chris Wok Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:40 PM (#2842462)

OMG. Varitek walked!
   61. IronChef Chris Wok Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:41 PM (#2842465)
Somebody take the bat out of Lugo's hands, thanks.
   62. Chip Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:41 PM (#2842466)
Not just walking Varitek, but walking Varitek on four pitches? When did Andy Pettitte become the worst pitcher in baseball? Hasn't he gotten the memo that Varitek is cooked?
   63. ekogan Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:41 PM (#2842467)
Lugo should swing away - he's got a decent OBP
   64. IronChef Chris Wok Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:42 PM (#2842468)
OMFG LUGO SUCCEEDED IN DOING SOMETHING

Time for Ellsbury to come out of his slump
   67. Chip Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:43 PM (#2842471)
Did Lugo just bunt against a guy who walked Varitek on four pitches, with the horribly slumping and lefthanded Ellsbury behind him? I really hope Tito didn't order that, because it would make him even dumber than Lugo. And way dumber than a turnip.
   68. NJ in DC (Now with Law School!!!) Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:43 PM (#2842472)
Well, that's the game.
   69. ekogan Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:43 PM (#2842473)
That was a single that Tacoby stretched into two.
Damn he's fast

   71. IronChef Chris Wok Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:44 PM (#2842475)
Yeah, I'll take that.
   72. ekogan Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:44 PM (#2842477)
Now that the Red Sox are playing a third place team they look good again
   73. Chip Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:44 PM (#2842478)
Bad swing against a pitch that jammed him, but we'll take it.
   74. IronChef Chris Wok Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:45 PM (#2842480)
I really hope Tito didn't order that, because it would make him even dumber than Lugo.

I woudl have thought about ordering a bunt for Lugo, but Lugo might have bunted into a DP anyway.
   75. IronChef Chris Wok Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:45 PM (#2842481)
Greenlight Jacoby here?
   76. Chip Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:46 PM (#2842482)
WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY? WHY?
   77. IronChef Chris Wok Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:46 PM (#2842483)
Never mind
   78. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:46 PM (#2842484)
"David Ortiz" was just the answer to a $2000 clue on Jeopardy.
   79. ekogan Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:47 PM (#2842485)
Is Posada good at throwing out runners?
I would think that Ellsbury could steal at will with Posada's bum shoulder.
...
Well, that didn't work out, but Posada didn't participate in the play

   81. Chip Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:49 PM (#2842487)
I could understand the risk if a guy who can only make outs like Varitek were at the plate, but not with hottest hitter in baseball at the plate.

Two free outs keep Pettitte in the game, when they had a chance to begin shredding the Yankee bullpen in the second inning of game one of this series.

The problem is that if Lugo hits, he might hit into a DP.

If he bunts, he might bunt into a DP.

   88. Chip Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:53 PM (#2842497)
I don't know: Pettitte was having trouble throwing strikes, and Lugo HAS at least been drawing walks this year.

every bullpen is bad when you goto it in the second inning of the first game of a series.

Strike 1 hasn't been a strike all day.

Ball 2 there might have been strike 3 though.
   95. Chip Posted: July 03, 2008 at 07:58 PM (#2842505)
The Yankee bullpen is not bad.

Even good bullpens get stressed by having to get 24 outs in the first game of a series (or 23 or 22), if the Sox hadn't done so much to bail Pettitte out of a bigger inning.
