No one here today?
   2. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:13 PM (#2843259)
Nice start by Rasner.

Watch him get out of it now. Which will be credited to the team meeting.
   3. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:15 PM (#2843261)
Amica says good pitch. I think Drew was more annoyed by the indecision on the umpire's part than the call itself.
   4. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:17 PM (#2843262)
Yeah, that was a late call for anyone who isn't McClellan.
   5. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:18 PM (#2843265)
Strike two to Manny, however, was a joke.
   6. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:18 PM (#2843266)
Unfortunately I'm watching on MLB.tv today, so I have the YES feed and no Amica, but I'm pretty sure that strike 2 to manny was about 6 inches inside.
   7. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:19 PM (#2843268)
Squander opportunity looms!
   8. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:21 PM (#2843271)
Halfway to squander as Lowell pops up a hanging curveball.
   9. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:22 PM (#2843272)
Has Youks been 0-2 in every single AB of this series?

SQUANDER!
   10. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:26 PM (#2843275)
Jeter to bunt him over here?
   11. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:26 PM (#2843276)
Well, he tried...
   12. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:28 PM (#2843278)
These Fourth of July hats are pretty lame.
   13. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:29 PM (#2843280)
Yeah. It's MLB-wide, too.
   14. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:33 PM (#2843284)
Nice 0-2 pitch Josh.

Nice relay throw Lugo.
   15. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:36 PM (#2843286)
Beckett's location has been terrible so far.
   16. salajander Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:39 PM (#2843288)
First inning today was a mirror image of yesterday's.
   17. tfbg9 Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:40 PM (#2843289)
What was the type of pitch on that 0-2, Chip? Crappy 4 seamer?
   18. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:44 PM (#2843290)
What was the type of pitch on that 0-2, Chip? Crappy 4 seamer?

Yeah. It was down, but not far enough inside - just off the plate.
   19. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:46 PM (#2843293)
#### you Lugo.
   20. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:47 PM (#2843295)
Where are you, Jed?
   21. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:48 PM (#2843297)
Theo just has to admit, like what happened with Clement, that it was a bad signing and to move on. He has a good option. What is he waiting for?
   22. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:53 PM (#2843301)
This Kay/Singleton chatter is putting me to sleep.
   23. tfbg9 Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:55 PM (#2843306)
Lugo's been less than disaterous this year.

IIRC, he had an OK WS?
   24. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:57 PM (#2843307)
No, he's been disastrous. Bad offense, bad defense.
   25. tfbg9 Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:59 PM (#2843309)
Nice glove, Jase.
   26. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 01:59 PM (#2843310)
Giambi = no hands.
   27. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:00 PM (#2843311)
I'm not even sure Giambi tries to throw to 2nd if he plays that cleanly.
   28. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:01 PM (#2843314)
Don't blame Rasner for grimacing there. That looked to be on the black.
   29. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:02 PM (#2843315)
If he did, the ball would still be bouncing around somewhere out there in leftfield.
   30. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:02 PM (#2843316)
Amica said Rasner threw no strikes to Manny.

Gee, where have I seen this situation before?
   31. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:03 PM (#2843320)
Wow. What a pathetic arm. He barely reached Jeter with that throw.
   32. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:04 PM (#2843321)
That was a terrible pitch. Lowell's pissed that he only got a sac line drive out of it.
   33. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:04 PM (#2843322)
It was hit hard, just right at Damon.
   34. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:05 PM (#2843323)
Rasner nibbles more than Dice-K. How does he not walk more batters than he does?
   35. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:07 PM (#2843325)
Jesus, I thought he had that!
   36. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:08 PM (#2843326)
Haha. At least he kept it in the park.
   37. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:09 PM (#2843328)
That is the most bizarre play I've ever seen.

The ball just rested on top of the wall, before the rattle from Damon's impact finally made it drop to the track. Could easily have rolled the other way for a HR.

And Damon may have dislocated his shoulder.
   38. tfbg9 Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:09 PM (#2843329)
You could watch a million more ballgames...
   39. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:10 PM (#2843330)
Would you rather have the run or Damon leaving the game?
   40. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:10 PM (#2843331)
That was so bizarre. Hell of an attempt by Damon, hope he's alright.
   41. Fred Garvin, Male Prostitute Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:12 PM (#2843332)
What's the ruling if the ball just sat there without falling off?

Is it still in play? I'm thinking so.

If Damon picks the ball up from the top of the fence, is the batter out? Must the runners then tag? Again, I'm thinking yes.

Is this the case even if the ball stays up there for a minute or so?

What an odd play.
   42. Mattbert Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:13 PM (#2843333)
That's one of the many things that makes baseball great. Every once in a while, you see something you've never seen before on a diamond.
   43. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:15 PM (#2843335)
It's in play, Fred.

If the guy in left hadn't pointed it out to Damon, Youks might have had an inside-the-park'er.
   44. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:15 PM (#2843336)
Welcome to the big leagues, Mr. Gardner.
   45. Fred Garvin, Male Prostitute Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:15 PM (#2843337)
I love watching 2nd and 3rd place teams fight it out.
   46. Rafael Bellylard (p8p) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:15 PM (#2843338)
I didn't see the play, but if the ball touched the wall, I don't see how the batter can be out.
   47. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:16 PM (#2843339)
If Damon picks the ball up from the top of the fence, is the batter out?

No. It's already touched a part of the field.
   48. salajander Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:18 PM (#2843342)
Baseball is awesome.
   49. Fred Garvin, Male Prostitute Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:19 PM (#2843343)
If the guy in left hadn't pointed it out to Damon, Youks might have had an inside-the-park'er.

That's what I'd figure. It'd be really funny, though, if after all the Red Sox scored and made there way into the dugout, Damon picked the ball off the top of the fence.

Suddenly, a bunch of Red Sox run out from the dugout to try to retag. Ha!
   50. Fred Garvin, Male Prostitute Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:20 PM (#2843344)
No. It's already touched a part of the field.

D'oh! Thanks for confusing my fantasy with reality.
   51. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:22 PM (#2843346)
Amica says not a strike to Varitek. Huge zone has kept this from being an even higher scoring game than it is.
   52. Mattbert Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:23 PM (#2843347)
Generous strike. If Beckett gets that pitch consistently, he shouldn't allow another baserunner in this game.
   53. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:26 PM (#2843350)
Brilliant.
   54. Mattbert Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:26 PM (#2843352)
Giambino's moustache is really something.
   55. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:27 PM (#2843353)
RDF. He almost beat Jeter back to first.
   56. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:27 PM (#2843354)
That was some pretty horrible execution by the Yankees.
   57. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:29 PM (#2843355)
Stand-up strike!
   58. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:31 PM (#2843356)
0-2 to 3-2 to base hit.

Terrible.
   59. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:32 PM (#2843360)
HUGE shift on now for Giambi. Interesting.
   60. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:33 PM (#2843361)
I guess what's more interesting is the combination of DP depth and the extreme shift.
   61. Mattbert Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:36 PM (#2843362)
He looks like a mutant Don Mattingly.
   62. Lassus Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:36 PM (#2843363)
You know, when you don't have cable and are forced to listen to the radio for the Yankees you only really then realize how much of an embarrassment Sterling is to this organization.
   63. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:38 PM (#2843366)
Both ARod and Giambi really worked Beckett for a lot of pitches.
   64. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:39 PM (#2843367)
Shocked that Beckett ended up winning that AB. Got extremely lucky on the hanging curveball that Giambi couldn't keep fair.
   65. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:39 PM (#2843368)
I think Sterling is a lot better than Kay, quite frankly. it's the Waldman part of that team who is so annoying.
   66. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:44 PM (#2843374)
DirecTV has a blimp?
   67. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:46 PM (#2843375)
Wow. Great play by Ellsbury. No way Manny makes that play.
   68. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:46 PM (#2843376)
Great play by Ellsbury.
   69. Lassus Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:48 PM (#2843379)
I hear that a lot, kevin, but as I'm a Mets fan I consider myself at least objective on this team. Waldman actually talks about the hitting - she was making a note on Lowell's location regarding trying to pull a ball that was outside and such. Even if she knows MARGINALLY what's going on, that's an improvement over Sterling. He just went wacko over Giambi's foul ball. He also had the call on the ball that Damon just missed completely wrong. And at one point he said "if the ball goes past the line, it's foul."

I think if you subjected yourself to Kay and Sterling regularly, you'd feel different between them. Kay is kind of a dope, but again - that's an improvement over Sterling.
   70. Mattbert Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:50 PM (#2843380)
Beckett's must be tired after pitching for three hours straight this inning.
   71. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:51 PM (#2843381)
He's thrown more pitches than Rasner, if you can believe that.
   72. villageidiom Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:55 PM (#2843385)
Afternoon, all.

I can't believe we're only through 4 innings.... Wow, look at those clouds moving in over the Stadium. Are they going to get this game in?
   73. Mattbert Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:58 PM (#2843386)
Hola, vi.
   74. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:59 PM (#2843387)
Lowell!
   75. villageidiom Posted: July 04, 2008 at 02:59 PM (#2843388)
OK, we've got the lead. Thanks, Lowell!

Now let's get the bottom of the inning over, make it official, and let the skies open up.
   76. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:00 PM (#2843389)
Great swing by Lowell.
   77. tfbg9 Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:00 PM (#2843390)
Mikey Doodle...ahh!
   78. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:05 PM (#2843394)
he didn't miss that one.
   79. villageidiom Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:06 PM (#2843395)
Now let's get the bottom of the inning over, make it official, and let the skies open up.

Never mind. Satellite shows something passing, nothing later. Keep scoring, boys.
   80. Mattbert Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:06 PM (#2843396)
Signs of life from the Craptain.
   81. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:06 PM (#2843397)
Varitek showing signs of life.
   82. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:06 PM (#2843398)
Why is Rasner still in the game? He's BOP right now.
   83. tfbg9 Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:07 PM (#2843399)
'Tek hits finess pitchers way better than power...
   84. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:07 PM (#2843400)
Damn, I owe Mattbert a Coke on that one I think.
   85. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:07 PM (#2843401)
If it were possible, Lugo would ground into a DP here.
   86. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:08 PM (#2843402)
Hey look, another weakass grounder to the left side of the infield from Lugo.
   87. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:09 PM (#2843404)
Hopeless. And stupid. And talentless.
   88. Mattbert Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:09 PM (#2843405)
Yo quiero Jed Lowrie.
   89. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:10 PM (#2843406)
Beckett desperately needs a quick inning here.

Please, no Hansen or Delcarmen today.
   90. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:13 PM (#2843407)
Lugo Jeteresque again to his left.
   91. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:13 PM (#2843408)
Jeterian effort by Lugo.
   92. tfbg9 Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:13 PM (#2843409)
Is there another SS who comes up with the ball less often on dives than Lugo?
   93. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:15 PM (#2843410)
Yeah, Derek Jeter. Maybe Michael Young too.
   94. tfbg9 Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:16 PM (#2843411)
OK! Good play Loog!
   95. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:17 PM (#2843412)
Finally made a decent play.
   96. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:20 PM (#2843416)
Would be nice to score at least one off of Traber, as bad as he has been.
   97. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:21 PM (#2843417)
ARod's throw just barely got Ellsbury on that one.
   98. Mattbert Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:23 PM (#2843418)
Traber has some of the worst mechanics I've ever seen.
   99. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:30 PM (#2843420)
Nice play helping himself out there by Beckett.
   100. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:34 PM (#2843421)
Beckett done now?
