At 102 pitches, with the state of the middle relief, I assume Beckett will at least start the 7th with Melky, Molina, and Gardner due up.
   102. Mattbert Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:37 PM (#2843424)
I would run him back out there for the 7th. Barely over 100 pitches, and he's got Melky, Molina, and Gardner due up.
   103. Mattbert Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:38 PM (#2843425)
Here's your Coke back, Dan. I didn't backwash.
   104. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:42 PM (#2843427)
Thanks.
   105. tfbg9 Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:44 PM (#2843429)
Clever.
   106. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:45 PM (#2843430)
Francona with another dumbass hit and run. Theo should forbid him from calling the hit and run.
   107. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:45 PM (#2843431)
SQUANDER!
   108. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:46 PM (#2843432)
Dr. Tynan?

Did he get his honorary doctorate from Bob Jones University?
   109. tfbg9 Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:48 PM (#2843433)
When the 'pen blows the lead, that squander will prove very costly.
   110. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:48 PM (#2843434)
Berlin's worst song made even worse by the full version.
   111. Mattbert Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:49 PM (#2843435)
One of the slowest guys on the team at 1st. A guy who's been striking out like twice a game lately at the plate.

It's hit and run time, baby!
   112. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:50 PM (#2843436)
Didn't want to hand Okajima inherited runners. Second time in a row they've started him clean.
   113. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:50 PM (#2843437)
That's the third time Francona has called it in the last week. And the third time it failed miserably.
   114. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:51 PM (#2843438)
That's the third time Francona has called it in the last week. And the third time it failed miserably.

Worse yet, Varitek seems to be the ONLY guy he starts the runner with.
   115. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:51 PM (#2843439)
Sorry I meant to mention it was the third time he's called it with Varitek at the plate.
   116. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:52 PM (#2843440)
Decent pitch, bad result. He had that happen to him in his last outing, too, when he gave up a broken bat leadoff single.
   117. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:52 PM (#2843441)
Great start to the inning...
   118. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:53 PM (#2843444)
Gift on the 2-0.
   119. tfbg9 Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:54 PM (#2843446)
Oki is all f*ckied now. Rattled every outing.
   120. Mattbert Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:54 PM (#2843447)
Where the heck did the 2-1 miss?
   121. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:55 PM (#2843448)
Walking JOSE MOLINA??
   122. Mattbert Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:55 PM (#2843449)
No inherited runners? No problem!
   123. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:56 PM (#2843452)
Embarrassing.

This lead is going to be gone in a heartbeat.
   124. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:57 PM (#2843454)
It's pouring. Call the game!
   125. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:57 PM (#2843455)
Smell the glove.
   126. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:58 PM (#2843456)
WTF was that with slide by Molina?
   127. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:58 PM (#2843457)
Solid play by Lugo.
   128. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 03:59 PM (#2843458)
"With that slide."
   129. kevin Posted: July 04, 2008 at 04:00 PM (#2843459)
God, that was a strike on 2-2.
   130. Mattbert Posted: July 04, 2008 at 04:02 PM (#2843461)
3-2 awfully close as well.
   131. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 04:02 PM (#2843462)
The 2-2 was not a strike on the Amica Zone. But it has been all day. Until now.
   132. Curse of the Graffanino (dfan) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 04:02 PM (#2843463)
This umpire's strike zone is pretty weird.
   133. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 04:03 PM (#2843464)
3-2 also off the plate, but has been called a strike today.
   134. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 04:03 PM (#2843466)
Abreu misses a cookie on 2-1.
   135. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 04:04 PM (#2843468)
Now Delcarmen will walk A-Rod, then give up the grand slam to Giambi.
   136. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 04:09 PM (#2843470)
Wow.

Couldn't throw the fastball for a strike on the first pitch, but gets it done with three straight off-speed pitches.

Terrible AB by A-Rod.
   137. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 04:09 PM (#2843471)
Got out of it, but that was entirely too nerve-wracking.
   138. Mattbert Posted: July 04, 2008 at 04:11 PM (#2843472)
I thought that first pitch was a curveball that slipped out of his hand early.
   139. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 04:12 PM (#2843473)
There's standing water everywhere on the infield. Why is this game still being played?
   140. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 04:14 PM (#2843475)
And consulting the live radar on a producer's Blackberry, Remy says it's only going to get worse.

Call it!
   141. Mattbert Posted: July 04, 2008 at 04:16 PM (#2843477)
If they called the game here, would Delcarmen be credited with a save?
   142. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 04:19 PM (#2843478)
There's going to be a lot of that. Mud on every ball.
   143. Anthropophagus Mets Posted: July 04, 2008 at 04:19 PM (#2843479)
Nice throw, Slappy McCracklips.
   144. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 04:19 PM (#2843480)
I thought that first pitch was a curveball that slipped out of his hand early.

That's what it looked like to mee as well.
   145. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 04:20 PM (#2843481)
NOW they suspend it?

So ####### stupid. They could have kept a ton of water off the infield and made it back that much faster from a delay if the rain actually stops.
   146. tfbg9 Posted: July 04, 2008 at 04:29 PM (#2843486)
Chip is angry again. GRRRRRR!!!
   147. tfbg9 Posted: July 04, 2008 at 04:41 PM (#2843492)
So, when are they resumimg? Any word?
   148. tfbg9 Posted: July 04, 2008 at 05:28 PM (#2843507)
Soon they'll resume, I hear...tarp now off.
   149. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 05:48 PM (#2843521)
And we're back ...
   150. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 05:49 PM (#2843522)
Lugo looked like was running in, uh, mud.
   151. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 05:54 PM (#2843524)
Delcarmen sits for an hour after only one batter, then comes back? This should be interesting.
   152. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 05:55 PM (#2843525)
And the leadoff walk. Of course. Brilliant strategery.

3-2 changeup with a 3-run lead. Dumb.
   153. IronChef Chris Wok Posted: July 04, 2008 at 05:56 PM (#2843526)
F!@# these leadoff walks.
   154. IronChef Chris Wok Posted: July 04, 2008 at 05:57 PM (#2843528)
OMFG STRIKES~!!!!!
   155. tfbg9 Posted: July 04, 2008 at 05:59 PM (#2843529)
MDC sucks.
   156. IronChef Chris Wok Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:00 PM (#2843531)
Javier Lopez *facepalsm*
   157. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:08 PM (#2843535)
Sprained AC joint for Damon. They're claiming he's day-to-day.
   158. Darren Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:15 PM (#2843539)
Put this chump away Pap. It's beneath you!
   159. IronChef Chris Wok Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:16 PM (#2843540)
Where the F!@# is everybody?
   160. Darren Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:16 PM (#2843541)
Hard to blame MDC in this game. He got brought back after a long layoff.
   161. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:16 PM (#2843542)
Sitting in traffic on the Major Deegan.
   162. Darren Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:16 PM (#2843543)
Enough! Get this chump!
   163. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:17 PM (#2843544)
There you go.
   164. Darren Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:17 PM (#2843545)
Finally.

Any word on Buc coming up to pitch tomorrow?
   165. Darren Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:18 PM (#2843546)
OMG. They're pinchhitting for the catcher! They'll lose the DH! Oh the horror!
   166. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:18 PM (#2843547)
They were listing Masterson as the starter on the pre-game today.

I hate the decision.
   167. Darren Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:19 PM (#2843548)
Thought he got under it there.
   168. Darren Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:20 PM (#2843549)
And there is more confirmation that it's Masterson. And as Remy points out, they'll put a million lefties in against him.
   169. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:20 PM (#2843550)
At least he won't have to face Damon. I assume Gardner gets the start.
   170. IronChef Chris Wok Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:21 PM (#2843551)
Papelbon is leaving stuff up in teh zone.
   171. Darren Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:21 PM (#2843552)
Put this chump away!

I think it's up by design
   172. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:22 PM (#2843553)
He hasn't pitched since the 27th, so I wouldn't expect his command to be great.

And with a 3-run lead, I'd prefer missing in the zone than out of it.
   173. Darren Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:22 PM (#2843554)
Sorry, you can't do that. You can't walk Brett ####### Gardner.
   174. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:22 PM (#2843555)
That was awful. No ####### way you should walk the AAAA guy.
   175. IronChef Chris Wok Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:23 PM (#2843556)
F!@#
   176. Darren Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:23 PM (#2843558)
How about Flobots? What's the general consensus?
   177. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:24 PM (#2843559)
A mediocre slider becomes an effective changeup for strike two.
   178. Darren Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:24 PM (#2843560)
Okay, that's got some purpose for Mr. Leany!
   179. Darren Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:25 PM (#2843561)
Stop screwing around. Throw strikes now
   180. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:25 PM (#2843562)
WHAT??????
   181. Darren Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:26 PM (#2843563)
Nice play but it looked like a trap.
   182. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:26 PM (#2843564)
Clean catch.
   183. Darren Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:26 PM (#2843565)
This has hellish ending written all over it.

Get some damn command, Pap.
   184. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:27 PM (#2843566)
Multiple replays make it look clean.
   185. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:27 PM (#2843567)
Easy to tell it was a catch, was no doubt in live in replay in my mind.
   186. Darren Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:27 PM (#2843568)
Really Chip? I could see it as arguable but I can't see it definitively either way.
   187. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:27 PM (#2843569)
Looked like a catch.

ok, 0-2...
   188. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:27 PM (#2843570)
in live or in replay
   189. IronChef Chris Wok Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:27 PM (#2843571)
This is not going to end well
   190. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:28 PM (#2843572)
No more ####### around with the 0-2 count.
   191. Darren Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:28 PM (#2843573)
Did you see the way the ball bounced up? It could have been off the webbing but it could have been ground.
   192. Darren Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:29 PM (#2843574)
Way to dominate them Pap! :)

Now, Flobots--what say you people?
   193. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:29 PM (#2843575)
we're blocked from seeing if the ball rolled out of the glove for a second, hit the ground, and Crisp picked it back up into the glove. I have no idea how the 3rd base ump could have seen that, though, if it was hidden from the hd cameras...

Didn't matter. good. Papelbon was not sharp, but that's to be expected with a full week off.
   194. tfbg9 Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:29 PM (#2843576)
Giant whew.
   195. Chip Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:29 PM (#2843577)
Phew.

Lack of work obvious for Papelbon with those strike two pitch locations.
   196. Dan Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:30 PM (#2843578)
When even Michael Kay admits the Yankees got a gift call on the "trap," it's a pretty safe bet it was a catch.
   197. Darren Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:31 PM (#2843579)
Really? Kay said that? Well, I guess I'm just a self-hating fan. I'm glad I wasn't the ump who had to make that call. What a great play by Coco either way.
   198. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:31 PM (#2843581)
the ball definitely hit Crisp's glove in the webbing. The question is whether he secured it immediately, or if it hit the ground as he turned the glove over.
   199. tfbg9 Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:32 PM (#2843582)
Wow.
   200. tfbg9 Posted: July 04, 2008 at 06:34 PM (#2843585)
An odd ballgame, feel like the Sox ought have been up by 11-2 or something at the end.
