Is there any way to get TV or radio on this series, other than buying a month of MLB.TV?
   2. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 07:36 PM (#2916984)
There is absolutely no way Timmy "Big Game" Wakefield will beat the Yankees tonight. Zero. Nada. Squat. The Sox
might get lucky and win, but no W for Wakefield.
   3. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 07:38 PM (#2916989)
Tomorrow is on ESPN, IIRC, Ghost.
   4. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 07:40 PM (#2916997)
Watch Tim crack...
   5. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 07:40 PM (#2917000)
Why do I even watch?
   6. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 07:42 PM (#2917006)
Nice work Timmy. Way to hold the lead.
   7. Marcel Posted: August 26, 2008 at 07:42 PM (#2917011)
####### cheap singles...
   8. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 07:43 PM (#2917014)
He's got nothing right now. Balls all all up.
   9. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 07:45 PM (#2917018)
I mean give up the tie. Got me cracking too. The NYY's are totally inside his head.

He's like 1-9 against them last 10 starts or something, 8 or 9 ERA.
   10. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 07:45 PM (#2917020)
The last single was sort of cheap. Not the first 2.
   11. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 07:45 PM (#2917021)
Wake will not make it out of the 5th.
   12. Fancy Pants Handle Posted: August 26, 2008 at 07:46 PM (#2917022)
Nice work Timmy. Way to hold the lead.

Yeah, shame on him for not holding that 1-1 lead.
   13. Fancy Pants Handle Posted: August 26, 2008 at 07:46 PM (#2917024)
damn shoulda refreshed the page...
   14. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 07:48 PM (#2917028)
Ah, its OK. I know I come across as less than "all there" when Tim's on the hill.
   15. The Ghost of Sox Fans Past Posted: August 26, 2008 at 07:48 PM (#2917029)
tfbg9, thanks, I did hear that. I probably don't want to watch tonight's carnage, anyway.

Oh wait, we're not doing badly against Andy.
   16. Marcel Posted: August 26, 2008 at 07:49 PM (#2917030)
Youk!
   17. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 07:49 PM (#2917034)
We better get about 7 or 8.
   18. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 07:50 PM (#2917037)
Nice range Jetes...
   19. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 07:53 PM (#2917044)
Pettitte just clamps the runner onto 1st--as good as anybody I've ever seen.
   20. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 07:56 PM (#2917052)
OK...now watch Big Game Timmy hand it right back.

Like he's gonna outdual Andy Pettitte.
   21. Fancy Pants Handle Posted: August 26, 2008 at 07:57 PM (#2917057)
Right now it looks more like a race to see who gets pulled first...
   22. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:00 PM (#2917064)
That was nicely pulled off, gotta say.

Buck up Timmy!
   23. Dan Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:04 PM (#2917083)
Walking Kevin Cash is pretty pathetic, but thanks Andy!
   24. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:04 PM (#2917084)
Is HP ump Reynolds a vacation call-up guy?
   25. Dan Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:05 PM (#2917087)
TB is down 3-0 to Toronto in the bottom of the 3rd.
   26. Chip Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:06 PM (#2917090)
None of those were bad calls on the Amica Zone to Cash, although the 2-0 might have just caught the line - certainly within the margin of umpire discretion for where the black is. Still, I can understand Pettitte being pissed, given how massive the zone has been over the first three innings.
   27. Chip Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:08 PM (#2917099)
And the ######## and ######## re-widens the zone. That was way off the plate.
   28. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:08 PM (#2917098)
That was 8 inches outside.
   29. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:08 PM (#2917101)
Chip--is he a real MLB ump?
   30. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:09 PM (#2917102)
I just got into my hotel in NYC and turned the game on YES. Has the umpire been as biased against Pettitte as the YES announcers are claiming?

(Doubtful.)
   31. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:10 PM (#2917104)
No, Biffer. But I'm biased.
   32. Marcel Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:10 PM (#2917105)
   33. Chip Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:11 PM (#2917109)
Reynolds is in his 9th year.
   34. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:11 PM (#2917110)
Biff-don't order any skanky hookers off the "Naked Channel"! Hee hee.
   35. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:13 PM (#2917115)
Oh...his name did not ring a bell for some reason, Chip.
   36. Dan Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:13 PM (#2917116)
From Rotoworld:

ESPN.com reports that the Red Sox are close to a deal with the Braves for Mark Kotsay.
It sounds like a trade might have been agreed to. However, Boston is in Kotsay's limited no-trade clause and still needs to get him to accept a deal. Kotsay would probably get playing time over Coco Crisp while J.D. Drew is out if he accepts the deal. He'd stand to receive fewer at-bats when everyone is healthy. The Phillies are also believed to be interested in him. If the Braves move him, they'd likely play Brandon Jones in left field, with Gregor Blanco in center for now. They could call up Jordan Schafer next month to start.
   37. Dan Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:13 PM (#2917118)
Bah, I guess I owe Marcel a Coke on that one.
   38. Dan Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:15 PM (#2917120)
Wow, I thought Matsui might have gotten enough of that to get out to the short RF.
   39. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:15 PM (#2917121)
Timmy's trying to give it up. Lotta loud outs and strikes.
   40. Fancy Pants Handle Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:16 PM (#2917126)
Wouldn't that have to be a waiver deal? If the Phillies had been "interested" and put in a claim, he wouldn't have gotten through to Boston...
   41. Chip Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:17 PM (#2917128)
Wouldn't that have to be a waiver deal? If the Phillies had been "interested" and put in a claim, he wouldn't have gotten through to Boston...

I would assume that means Atlanta managed to sneak him through unclaimed.
   42. Dan Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:18 PM (#2917129)
He cleared waivers. No one wants to pay his whole contract.
   43. Dan Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:18 PM (#2917131)
Looks like I'm out another Coke.
   44. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:18 PM (#2917130)
Kotsay seems to still hit RHP's pretty decently. In the weak league...
   45. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:19 PM (#2917133)
Apparently putting a topping on only half of a pizza is a confusing conundrum.
   46. Dan Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:19 PM (#2917134)
Kotsay would be a fine OF backup. His defense in CF isn't so great, but in RF he'd be good still, and he has a good arm. He can hit RHP decently enough. A Kotsay/Crisp platoon with Ellsbury shifting between CF and Rf would be solid until Drew is back. And then Kotsay would be a great bench option to have.

Is the wind knocking these balls down?
   47. Fancy Pants Handle Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:20 PM (#2917135)
That makes sense, brainfart on my part.
   48. Chip Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:20 PM (#2917136)
Pettitte trying even harder than Wake to give up the HR.
   49. Chip Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:21 PM (#2917139)
1-2 to Youks well off the plate.
   50. Dan Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:22 PM (#2917146)
Pettitte's going all Maddux with the yelling on the mound, huh?
   51. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:24 PM (#2917151)
Typical 2008 Sox out-out hit-hit pattern.
   52. Chip Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:24 PM (#2917152)
Nice hitting.

Wrong part of this order to try and start the 2-out rally, though.
   53. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:25 PM (#2917155)
Coco hits LHP's a little...
   54. Chip Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:25 PM (#2917156)
Shocking.
   55. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2917158)
Is Lowrie really that slow? How was that play close?
   56. Dan Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2917159)
Wow, anti-squander!
   57. Marcel Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2917163)
I like it when Coco doesn't totally suck
   58. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2917165)
Maybe he lost count of the number of outs, Biff?
   59. Chip Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2917167)
Pettitte now up to 97 pitches.
   60. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2917171)
Have your moment now, Jeff.
   61. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2917175)
Stop whining, Molina.
   62. Chip Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2917177)
The classic "first move" steal on Pettitte. Just gamble and go, because he's really slow to the plate if he doesn't make the balk pickoff move to first.
   63. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2917180)
Nice baserunning there by Crisp.
   64. Dan Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2917182)
Wow, great baserunning by Crisp!
   65. Chip Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:29 PM (#2917187)
Hits the bag. Hee hee!

And great running by Coco.
   66. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:29 PM (#2917189)
Won't matter, as Big Game Tim is on the bump at the bottom of the frame.
   67. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:30 PM (#2917193)
Good comment in #62--true.
   68. Dan Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:30 PM (#2917194)
Won't matter, as Big Game Tim is on the bump at the bottom of the frame.

At least the pitching change here should give you time to change your Depends for a new pair.
   69. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:30 PM (#2917195)
Hits the bag. Hee hee!

I think ARod had even less of a chance of making the play if it didn't hit the bag.
   70. Chip Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:30 PM (#2917196)
Pettitte can ##### about the umpire all he wants, but his stuff was very, very mediocre tonight.
   71. Dan Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:31 PM (#2917198)
His stuff was mediocre and his location was worse. He was unlucky on a lot of bounces and weakly hit balls, but he was lucky to draw an umpire that was giving him calls 8 inches off the plate, so that evens out really.
   72. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:33 PM (#2917205)
I don't really think it looked like he was getting squeezed.

What did Amica show?
   73. Answer Guy Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:33 PM (#2917207)
I think tfbg9 has a point insofar as Wake seems to be getting lucky with a lot of loud outs. That luck could change in a New York minute, as they say. With that, and the state of Boston's middle relief, I don't really feel safe with any lead in this game.
   74. Chip Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2917209)
Good comment in #62--true.

Remy was also noting how slow he is to the plate once he makes the move in that direction.
   75. Chip Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:34 PM (#2917212)
I don't really think it looked like he was getting squeezed.

What did Amica show?

He got a ton of generous calls, even before the b*tching started. And no evident squeezes.
   76. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:36 PM (#2917215)
See?
   77. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:36 PM (#2917216)
2 HR for Damon? God.
   78. Marcel Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:36 PM (#2917217)
You've got to be shitting me. Two cheap homeruns in one game?
   79. Chip Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:36 PM (#2917218)
Yaz released from Mass Gen today? Good news.

Another cheapie for the Former Caveman.
   80. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:38 PM (#2917225)
Way to set 'em right down, Timmy.

1-9, 7 ERA in 13 starts against the NYY's. Clutch.
   81. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:38 PM (#2917227)
Things just never go his way...then he gives up the crushing HR.
   82. Answer Guy Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2917228)
Ugh, tying run at the dish with 1 one out. That lead was fun while it lasted.
   83. Chip Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:41 PM (#2917236)
I'm not sure if I were Cash I'd be trying that play with Bailey playing first.
   84. Dan Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2917243)
Another shitty shitty read on a ball hit to CF by Crisp.
   85. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2917245)
Big Tease Time. Big One. Needs to get the one more. Won't.
   86. Chip Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2917247)
The NY media gets what it wanted: anti-A-Rod column in today's paper induces mid-game boos.
   87. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2917251)
He needs to execute a pitch.

Execute a f*cking pitch.
   88. Fancy Pants Handle Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2917252)
Yeah, god forbid a hitter make an out more often than not...
   89. Chip Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2917255)
Executed.
   90. Answer Guy Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2917256)
True. They like to boo A-Rod it seems.
   91. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2917258)
Happy to be wrong (so far).

He'll not make it out of the 6th. Just watch.
   92. tfbg9 Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:46 PM (#2917261)
#86-but only if the NYY's lose. Otherwise...
   93. Answer Guy Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2917262)
Well, the charmed life of sorts continues for another inning.

I appreciate all Wake has done for this franchise over the years - he's been a Red Sock as long as I've been an adult. But he ain't got it tonight.
   94. Dan Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:47 PM (#2917265)
It's not clear to me that he'll even be sent out for the 6th. First start off the DL, they might go to the pen early, especially after a day off.
   95. Fancy Pants Handle Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2917267)
but only if the NYY's lose. Otherwise...
... ARod still choked, and Jeter lead the team to victory despite being pulled down by his unclutchy teammate.
   96. ekogan Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2917269)
Pedroia showing bunt? wtf?
   97. Chip Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:50 PM (#2917282)
Crowd sounds dead on NESN.
   98. Chip Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2917284)
Nice AB, Baggineses.
   99. Answer Guy Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:52 PM (#2917290)
I love the way Pedroia plays the game.
   100. ekogan Posted: August 26, 2008 at 08:52 PM (#2917293)
Pedroia looks completely out of place among regular MLB players.
He looks like a JC player who mistakenly wondered onto the wrong team bus.
