####### annoying if you ask me - 3 am here and I can't sleep as Michael Kay's voice is stuck in my head

Sportsline says Ellsbury is batting righty. That's novel -- has no one taught him what a slumpbuster is?
   4. Gamingboy Posted: August 28, 2008 at 01:12 PM (#2920268)
Mussina tied Frank Tanana on the alltime K list.
   5. Chip Posted: August 28, 2008 at 01:12 PM (#2920269)
Not a strike. In fact, a worse pitch on the Amica Zone than the first 0-2 pitch Mussina was ######## about.
   6. Gamingboy Posted: August 28, 2008 at 01:13 PM (#2920273)
I sometimes wonder whether I should hit the SAP button just so I don't have to listen to Michael Kay.

Only a foot away from the plate

I love how the Yankees have spent so much time focusing on the home plate umpiring in this series.

Jesus - Mussina is a whiny ##### today

Afternoon boys.

The Sox have a chance to more or less finisgh of the NYY's today. They'll probably
let 'em up off the canvas, as has been their want past few years (except for the one time).

Hank Steinbrenner just called for replay to be extended to balls and strikes.

I'm hoping for a sweep - probably why I can't sleep

One more Jon boy - nice pitch to get A Rod

Got this game on the radio at work. I really should find the disk that came with my XM subscription and listen to afternoon baseball all September.

Why is this a day game? Are the school holidays still going?
   19. Chip Posted: August 28, 2008 at 01:31 PM (#2920309)
Why does everyone think the Yankees are going to sign Manny? CHB was mentioning it again today on the pre-game. I don't see it.

I heart Clutch-Rod
   21. Cowboy Popup Posted: August 28, 2008 at 01:34 PM (#2920315)
Why does everyone think the Yankees are going to sign Manny?

Boras + Money off the books + Steinbrenner saying he's going to write some checks this offseason + lack of imagination.
   22. Chip Posted: August 28, 2008 at 01:34 PM (#2920316)
Abreu went after that one very slowly, and it wasn't even near the wall.
   23. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: August 28, 2008 at 01:34 PM (#2920317)
Kotsay comes out swinging like a madman. I'm surprised Mussina even threw a fastball there
   24. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: August 28, 2008 at 01:35 PM (#2920319)
I'll laugh if they sign Manny and I'd be annoyed with the crappy hype. Like when Damon signed in 2005.

Remember his first game at Fenway? What a wank that was
   25. Cowboy Popup Posted: August 28, 2008 at 01:36 PM (#2920320)

That's how Abreu goes after everything now. He's done as an OFer.

Getaway day. Red Sox actually play a weekday day game in September.
   27. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: August 28, 2008 at 01:39 PM (#2920325)
ESPN ripped Abreu a new one for the way he played the Bay triple yesterday (rightly so).

YES didn't...

Still seems to run the bases well, though, doesn't he? Two plays in this series that stuck out: the score from first on the A-Rod double to left, and nearly beating out an infield hit in the 9th last night that shouldn't have even been close.
   29. Dan Posted: August 28, 2008 at 01:41 PM (#2920328)

It's kind of odd that he looks so slow in the outfield with little range when he still runs the bases well.

Also:

Cody Ransom at first base?
   31. Gamingboy Posted: August 28, 2008 at 01:44 PM (#2920334)
I'm glad I'm not listening to this game on the radio. Suzyn Waldman is probably whining that the Red Sox should have allowed the series at the end of the year to be played in Yankee Stadium so that the Stadium could come full-circle.
   32. Cowboy Popup Posted: August 28, 2008 at 01:45 PM (#2920335)

I have absolutely no explanation for it. It's like he's running in sand in the OF. FWIW, I was in RF a week ago and when he's just standing around, he looks like he's in a lot of pain when he moves.
   33. Dan Posted: August 28, 2008 at 01:45 PM (#2920337)
Lester's stuff looks really good today. Last start looking like an aberration

It is Boston-NYY. I expect it to still be on when I leave work but hopefully done by the time UConn-Hofstra starts.

   42. Chip Posted: August 28, 2008 at 01:55 PM (#2920355)
Amica Zone says that wasn't a strike to Ellsbury.

   47. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: August 28, 2008 at 02:03 PM (#2920375)
Why would one call for a hit and run there?
   48. Chip Posted: August 28, 2008 at 02:04 PM (#2920379)
Not so sure they missed a sign: Jeter ran like it was a hit-and-run, and Abreu swung like it was. Remy thought it was a really dumb situation to be trying it, though - lefty on lefty, and not really a count where it was incumbent on Lester to groove one in the strike zone.
   49. Gamingboy Posted: August 28, 2008 at 02:05 PM (#2920381)
If Yankee Stadium is "Baseball's Cathedral", what, exactly, is Baseball's Temple? Baseball's Mosque? Baseball's Vegas Wedding Chapel?

Baseball's Mosque is wherever Sammy Khalifa worships (unless he's Coptic.)

Youks newfound-in-'08 affection for 0-2 counts is really getting annoying, even as it has been paired with this power outburst.

Fenway might be baseball's village church. Wrigley is baseball's tavern, obviously.

Wrigley was built on the site of a Seminary, therefore making it quite a turnaround.

Exact same not-a-strike location on the Amica Zone to get Nady.

They're talking about Instant Replay. Let's see if they admit that the 1996 World Series may not have happened if they had it back then.

Eh, he might have been taged. It's hard to tell. Cano sold it well.
   79. Chip Posted: August 28, 2008 at 02:37 PM (#2920455)
Phantom tag.

Molina gets reputation calls from umpires the same way pitchers do.

But Remy rightly criticizing Ellsbury for looking into the plate halfway down, because when he did he veered inside part of the basepath and the bag on the slide, making the call against him more likely.
   80. Chip Posted: August 28, 2008 at 02:38 PM (#2920456)
"veered TO the inside part of the basepath"
