Lowell's back but no KY

J. Ellsbury rf
D. Pedroia 2b
D. Ortiz dh
M. Kotsay 1b
J. Bay lf
M. Lowell 3b
J. Lowrie ss
J. Varitek c
C. Crisp cf

Kotsay is looking like a necessary addition more and more
   2. Fancy Pants Handle Posted: September 05, 2008 at 07:59 PM (#2930550)
Still, looks a heck of a lot better than the crappy lineup we ran out wednesday...
   3. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:00 PM (#2930554)
Supposedly Youkilis's back spasms have improved but he's in Boston because of a "personal matter."
   4. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:02 PM (#2930558)
And while Kotsay batting 4th ahead of Bay is silly, and sets up a string off L-L-R-R, at least Bay is hitting ahead of Lowell.
   5. konaforever Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:08 PM (#2930568)
I love our little MVP.
   6. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:10 PM (#2930573)
Weak hack from Ortiz on 3-1.
   7. konaforever Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:17 PM (#2930585)
Tampa Bay down 4-2.
   8. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:22 PM (#2930594)
How did Beckett look?
   9. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:25 PM (#2930598)
Pretty good. Most importantly, IMO, was that he snapped off a few beautiful curves.
   10. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:25 PM (#2930599)
Lowell!
   11. konaforever Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2930601)
Nice return for Lowell!
   12. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:26 PM (#2930602)
Oh yeah.
   13. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:27 PM (#2930603)
Dan, Phil, kona.
   14. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:28 PM (#2930607)
Hey kevin

Nice returns from Lowell and Becks so far...
   15. konaforever Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:32 PM (#2930615)
Hey Kevin!
   16. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:41 PM (#2930631)
NICE CATCH WADE
   17. villageidiom Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2930634)
Evening, all. Morning, Phil.

So when did Tony Massarotti switch to the Globe?
   18. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2930636)
After Edes left to go to Yahoo.
   19. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2930643)
hey vi
   20. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:44 PM (#2930645)
Vi, you still live in Medford, right?
   21. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:45 PM (#2930646)
About a week or two ago, vi.
   22. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2930656)
I'm relieved Beckett is pitching well.
   23. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2930663)
Tampa threatening. Runners at 2 and 3 - 2 out down 4-3
   24. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2930665)
Halladay gets Upton looking - still 4-3
   25. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2930667)
I couldn't believe Iwamura bunted when all he needed was a sac fly to tie the game.
   26. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:55 PM (#2930668)
I guess maybe Maddon called for a safety squeeze, but Gross at third doesn't seem like a fast enough runner to do a squeeze unless you're going to go suicide and start him.
   27. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:55 PM (#2930671)
I couldn't believe Iwamura bunted when all he needed was a sac fly to tie the game.

I missed that - wow
   28. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:56 PM (#2930672)
Terrible error.
   29. villageidiom Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:56 PM (#2930675)
Vi, you still live in Medford, right?

100 miles away, in CT. I haven't lived in Medford for more than 16 years.

My parents still lived there, up until October last year. Now they're within 2 miles of me. All it took was for my Dad to break his hip while mamaidiom was away, and for her to get hit by a truck, before they realized they'd like to move closer to someone who can help them out every now and then.

Yay, Bay!
   30. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:57 PM (#2930677)
Nice.
   31. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:58 PM (#2930680)
Ranger announcers ripping on Manny.
   32. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2930683)
Lowell - wow.
   33. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2930688)
yay!!
   34. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:00 PM (#2930690)
I'm also relieved that Lowell is hitting well.
   35. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:03 PM (#2930695)
Millwood is BP.
   36. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2930700)
Heads up base running by Lowrie to score on that.
   37. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:06 PM (#2930702)
RDF. The Rangers are treating the ball like it's radioactive.
   38. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:09 PM (#2930711)
I'll take a 4 spot there
   39. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:11 PM (#2930716)
Wow, I just realized that Beckett hadn't allowed a base runner yet. ha.
   40. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:12 PM (#2930717)
Dammit - bad throw by Jed - should be an error
   41. SacBunt Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:12 PM (#2930718)
Evidently Millwood is too easy for Pedroia, so he's lost interest.
   42. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:12 PM (#2930719)
They ruled that a hit?

get ###### you cheating #####
   43. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:14 PM (#2930726)
Awesome.

Lugo doesn't turn that.
   44. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:17 PM (#2930731)
Seems that the White are not missing Quentin today
   45. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:17 PM (#2930735)
That was a sweet DP - agree - i was on the phone when it happened
   46. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:17 PM (#2930736)
Toronto now up 6-3
   47. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:19 PM (#2930743)
Shame that Beckett couldn't retire Hamilton or Bradley quickly. He would've had a shot at 5 innings and a win. Oh well.
   48. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:23 PM (#2930747)
Great 2-1 pitch to Blalock
   49. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:24 PM (#2930748)
Wow, Blalock looked absolutely silly on that 2-1 hack.
   50. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:24 PM (#2930749)
Got him. Nice pitch.
   51. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:24 PM (#2930750)
Did Varitek just hold on to a foul tip??
   52. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:25 PM (#2930752)
Insurance runs in Toronto looking huge. 6-4 with a runner on 2nd and one out now in the top of the 9th.
   53. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:26 PM (#2930753)
BJ Ryan could not get Bartlett out
   54. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:26 PM (#2930755)
Bartlett is very good against LHP. He's just so terrible against RHP that his overall numbers are pretty middling.
   55. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:27 PM (#2930756)
What if she said no? I'm waiting for that.

What kind of clown proposes like that anyway? Have some dignity.
   56. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:27 PM (#2930758)
Wow - huge K to get Iwamura - did he go??
   57. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:28 PM (#2930759)
2 outs. Iwamura struck out.
   58. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:28 PM (#2930760)
Must get Upton with pena up next
   59. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:29 PM (#2930762)
Great. Pena up with 2 on.
   60. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:30 PM (#2930763)
Here comes the Pena HR :)
   61. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:30 PM (#2930764)
You suck McDonald
   62. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:30 PM (#2930766)
Home run coming up for sure here for Pena
   63. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:31 PM (#2930767)
I'm surprised Beckett is still in.
   64. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:33 PM (#2930771)
Hell of an AB so far for pena
   65. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:34 PM (#2930772)
It's over. 2.5 now.
   66. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:34 PM (#2930773)
If the Yankees lose tonight they will only be up .5 over Toronto.
   67. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:34 PM (#2930775)
Huge K!!

Jesus
   68. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:34 PM (#2930776)
3 Kevin. The Rays won yesterday extending their lead to 3.5. If the Red Sox win tonight it'll be 2.5 though.
   69. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:36 PM (#2930779)
Damn, Minnesota just went up 6-1 over Detroit on a Morneau grand slam.
   70. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:39 PM (#2930785)
Pretty damned good start by Beckett. No walks, 7 K's.
   71. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:39 PM (#2930787)
More pitches than I thought they'd let him throw, but amazing outing. Went deep into a lot of counts, but Texas is a patient team. Lots of K's, lots of sharp curveballs. I was worried he'd lose the feel for the curve in all that time off, especially since it seemed like it took him several starts this year to get a feel for it.
   72. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:40 PM (#2930788)
I'm assuming this one is on the bag, Dan, though maybe I shouldn't do that.
   73. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:41 PM (#2930795)
Against this offense, in their home park, I feel pretty safe with a 5 run lead but I wouldn't call it in the bag by any means.
   74. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:44 PM (#2930799)
Tek back up to .230.

He's doing a little better. He looks OK now.
   75. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:44 PM (#2930802)
Triple by Crisp? Wow.
   76. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:44 PM (#2930803)
Back to back triples?! YOu don't see that often.
   77. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:45 PM (#2930805)
Lord can he motor. He is just blazingly fast.
   78. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:46 PM (#2930808)
Both stand-ups too.
   79. konaforever Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:48 PM (#2930813)
We got the good Beckett back. Bring on the playoffs!
   80. villageidiom Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:50 PM (#2930818)
Up by 7 runs, going to the bullpen... isn't this usually Timlin's spot?
   81. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:52 PM (#2930820)
Pauley and Smith could stand some work too.
   82. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 09:56 PM (#2930821)
I just realized today that both the AA and AAA teams are Red Sox - Yankees matchups in the first round of the playoffs.
   83. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 10:11 PM (#2930833)
Manny D looks really sharp again.
   84. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 10:21 PM (#2930838)
Manny just reached on an error then got tagged out retreating to first after he rounded the bag.
   85. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 10:22 PM (#2930839)
Old friend Ryan Rupe.
   86. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 10:23 PM (#2930841)
Speaking of old friends, Gagne came in to protect a 2-1 lead in Milwaukee and promptly allowed a tying HR to Brian Giles.
   87. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 10:24 PM (#2930842)
Gagme really, really sucks now.
   88. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 10:25 PM (#2930844)
He's given up 11 jacks in 37 innings.
   89. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 10:26 PM (#2930847)
His ERA is also nearly 7.
   90. konaforever Posted: September 05, 2008 at 10:32 PM (#2930854)
Gagne is the best.
   91. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 10:32 PM (#2930856)
Strikes, Justin.
   92. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 10:33 PM (#2930857)
Wow, MDC's ERA is back down to a respectable 3.77.
   93. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 10:38 PM (#2930862)
The bottom of the order has done all the damage.
   94. jjdnyc Posted: September 05, 2008 at 10:41 PM (#2930865)
there is a lot to love about this team right now, eh boys? Let's remember these moments for when things get nerve-wracking later...
   95. Dan Posted: September 05, 2008 at 10:42 PM (#2930866)
I can't believe Lowell has been hitting like this right off the DL. He really needed that time to get healthy, it looks like.
   96. Marcel Posted: September 05, 2008 at 10:42 PM (#2930867)
Texas really needs to get a real centerfielder so they can put Hamilton in right.
   97. jjdnyc Posted: September 05, 2008 at 10:43 PM (#2930870)
mikey lowell! Like he never left at all...
   98. jjdnyc Posted: September 05, 2008 at 10:44 PM (#2930872)
cousin tfbg where are you?
   99. konaforever Posted: September 05, 2008 at 10:44 PM (#2930873)
Pedroia having a bad night with his 1-4.
   100. kevin Posted: September 05, 2008 at 10:47 PM (#2930878)
Yet, his OPS is still .900 for this game.
