Sounds like Lowell is not going to play tonight.
   2. Gamingboy Posted: October 03, 2008 at 01:35 PM (#2966375)
Stuff I want to see this game:

Vlad guns down a man at home

Ortiz vs. K-Rod, 9th Inning, 2 outs, man on base, Angels up by 1

Manny, arrives back from Chicago by Parachute, landing in left field on top of Jason Bay

Rally Monkey!

Instant-Replay play

Doug Flutie Sighting

No Lowell, and Cora at SS too. UGh.
   4. Joe Bivens, Ditch Digger Posted: October 03, 2008 at 07:02 PM (#2966564)
Forgive me for stating what may be obvious, but this is not a "must" game for the Red Sox. They have good chance with Dice -K going, but even if he gets beat, they still have home field advantage.
   5. Darren Posted: October 03, 2008 at 08:08 PM (#2966614)
I like the gamingboy lists. I'd like to add:

A guy ripping a rally monkey to shreds and raining it down on an elderly couple. Shredder claims to have witnessed this and I just want to see what it looks like.
   6. Darren Posted: October 03, 2008 at 08:31 PM (#2966629)
I don't like the Cora at SS choice at all, but Francona usually seems to base these decisions on matchups, so maybe it'll work.
   7. Dan Posted: October 03, 2008 at 08:32 PM (#2966630)
Cora is 2-3 with a 2B and a 3B career vs. Santana. And yes, I assume it is that record that made Francona start him. But I still think it's dumb.
   8. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: October 03, 2008 at 08:56 PM (#2966662)
Lowell must have arrived in a wheelchair to the game - I see no other reason as to why Cora is playing.
   9. Greg Franklin Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:12 PM (#2966684)
Besides Cora at SS, Jed L. is out of the lineup, Youks shifts to 3rd, and Mark Kotsay goes to first. (Not Sean Casey?)

Phil - if there were a must-win game he probably would play. I think Tito is giving him two consecutive days off and hoping he will be closer to 100% in Fenway.
   10. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:22 PM (#2966702)
Agree Frank - but why is Jed out of the line up? This is horrible - jesus
   11. kevin Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:28 PM (#2966708)
Ernie Johnson is really good.
   12. villageidiom Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:33 PM (#2966710)
Evening, all.

Wow, they didn't waste any time bringing up the "haven't beaten the Red Sox in 10 straight postseason games" thing. And Chuck needs to clean all that lime sherbet off his suit.
   13. Rafael Bellylard (p8p) Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:35 PM (#2966711)
And Chuck needs to clean all that lime sherbet off his suit.

I'd wear the tie in a heartbeat, though.
   14. Dan Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:35 PM (#2966712)
That suit is the most ridiculous one I've seen from him, I think. And that's saying a lot.
   15. Darren Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:36 PM (#2966713)
Wait wait wait. Lowell AND Lowrie are both out AND Kotsay is in? What in the hell is the point of this? Why is Casey on this team if he's going to be sat down for an inferior hitter and fielder?
   16. Jose Can Jussi Jokinen (Justin T) Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:36 PM (#2966715)
In the same way Craig Counsell isn't good enough to justify his batting stance, Craig Sager is not famous enough to dress like a bad Don Cherry impersonator.
   17. Darren Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:37 PM (#2966716)
Wednesday's suit was just as stupid, especially with the clashing background. Does he think it's funny or cute or something? It looks like a desperate cry for attention.
   18. Gamingboy Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:37 PM (#2966717)
Ballgame time.
   19. Dan Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:38 PM (#2966719)
Wait wait wait. Lowell AND Lowrie are both out AND Kotsay is in? What in the hell is the point of this? Why is Casey on this team if he's going to be sat down for an inferior hitter and fielder?

I think Kotsay is a superior fielder at this point. Casey is totally immobile.
   20. Darren Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:38 PM (#2966720)
Has anyone read anything about why Ellsbury didn't get credited with a triple last game? The fielder did not touch the ball, and in those cases, it's never called an error.
   21. Greg Franklin Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:39 PM (#2966721)
Guys, I watch a lot of NBA. Sager's suit is his shtick, and don't you dare try to dissuade him from it.
   22. Darren Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:40 PM (#2966722)
Casey's pretty immobile but he's got good hands and actually knows how to play the position. On what do you base your opinion of Kotsay's defense? He's barely played there.

This lineup is unforgivable. You could always explain these away in the regular season but this is the playoffs.

Looking good Pedroia.
   23. Jose Can Jussi Jokinen (Justin T) Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:40 PM (#2966723)
I dislike the Angels more than any team in baseball, but I'm rooting for them tonight. I really don't want three 2-0 series after three LDS sweeps and one four-gamer last season.
   24. Darren Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:41 PM (#2966725)
88 down the middle--how about a hack Papi?
   25. Darren Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:42 PM (#2966726)
Is Martinez any good as a color man? I tune him out because his voice is terrible.

Other then the "dislike the Angels more than any team in baseball" part, I agree with you completely.
   27. Darren Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:43 PM (#2966728)
Squander time!
   28. Jose Can Jussi Jokinen (Justin T) Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:43 PM (#2966729)
Oh, and I mean I don't want four 2-0 series.
   29. Darren Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:44 PM (#2966731)
I want dramatic comebacks in all the other series, but this one would be a good one to see a sweep in.
   30. Dan Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:44 PM (#2966732)
DREW@!!!!!

Good baserunning play there by Youk.
   32. Darren Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:45 PM (#2966734)
Got to send him there. Make them make the play with 2 outs.
   33. Darren Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:45 PM (#2966736)
88 down the middle. How about a hack

Good eye Bay.
   35. villageidiom Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:46 PM (#2966738)
I'd prefer this series to be a sweep, if only because it clears up my schedule.
   36. Greg Franklin Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:46 PM (#2966739)
Clutch 2-out hits by the Carmines (haven't used that nickname all year, might as well start now).

Kotsay gives the Sox flexibility--he can be a crappy hitter at a number of positions.

Some nicely placed bloops have helped. They've also murdered him on a couple.

I really thought he was going to cruise here.
   54. Darren Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:51 PM (#2966758)
Why does Caliendo have Flintstone-esque 5 o'clock shadow when portraying Madden?
   55. Gamingboy Posted: October 03, 2008 at 09:51 PM (#2966759)
Why must they choke the Rally Monkey with Red Socks? Why? WHY!?! What did the monkey ever do to you?!?!?!

(I really, really, really, hate Sweeps)

Let's see if the Angels lied and actually take against Dice-K.

"You need to score 4 runs before you get 27 outs."

Why ask why? It's Frank Caliendo.

Cora Mind Tricks™! He willed that ball through Aybar.

Yes, and that's why the Rays impress me. They take what the Angels do well and add a good approach at the plate.

Is this the same wrist Ortiz broke with the Twins?

I remember that game--he broke it in a collision at home, stayed in the game, and then homered in his next at bat. But the bastard just wouldn't BUNT!

The story line is just not as good. Manny coming back to Fenway for the World Series practically writes itself.
