But the Rockies were "Rocky" as well.
   902. Benji Gil Gamesh Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:54 PM (#2977402)

Uh, you guys do realize that to everybody outside New England, you're the Ivan Drago to the Rays' Rocky?

Are you calling the Sox steroid users?

If the Rays are Rocky, is Jonny Gomes Paulie?
   903. Darren Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:55 PM (#2977403)
Caliendo's Bush is a ripoff of Will Ferrell. There's nothing new or clever about it.
   904. Chip Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:55 PM (#2977404)
I think I'd take Maddon, honestly.

Wasn't Maddon a finalist when the interim regime chose Grady?
   905. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:55 PM (#2977405)
Uh, you guys do realize that to everybody outside New England, you're the Ivan Drago to the Rays' Rocky?
Sure. Well, sorta. We ain't done nearly enough winning yet to draw the quantity and quality of hate that the 2001 Yankees did, for instance. But whatever.
   906. ekogan Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:55 PM (#2977406)
Uh, you guys do realize that to everybody outside New England, you're the Ivan Drago to the Rays' Rocky?

Do you realize that lots of Red Sox fans live outside New England?
Also, more than a billion Chinese don't care.
   907. Dan Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:55 PM (#2977407)
But the Rockies were "Rocky" as well.

So were the Indians.
   908. ekogan Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:56 PM (#2977408)
I like how in the T-Mobile family ad, the kid suggests that dad pursue an affair with a woman from his soccer games and nobody blinks an eye.
   909. Dan Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:56 PM (#2977409)
Wasn't Maddon a finalist when the interim regime chose Grady?

Not that I'm aware of. I know he was a finalist when they picked Tito.
   910. Darren Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:56 PM (#2977410)

Uh, you guys do realize that to everybody outside New England, you're the Ivan Drago to the Rays' Rocky?

I thought we were Dick Drago.
   911. kevin Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:56 PM (#2977411)
Wasn't Maddon a finalist when the interim regime chose Grady?

yes, unfortunately. We might be looking at the 4th title try in 6 years.
   912. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:56 PM (#2977412)
Caliendo's Bush is a ripoff of Will Ferrell. There's nothing new or clever about it.
The main difference is that he's carefully excised all the humor.
   913. Fly's New Handle Was Too Long, But Clever Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:56 PM (#2977413)
I don't get that Jeopardy sign.
   914. IJason Varitek Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:56 PM (#2977414)
I like the T-Mobile family. The two older kids and the dad are entertaining.

Why are they dressed like it's the 70's, though?
   915. Answer Guy Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:56 PM (#2977415)
I'm guessing Rocky IV wasn't seen by many Chinese either though.
   916. tfbg9 Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:57 PM (#2977416)
Crawford does not K much at all.
   917. kevin Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:57 PM (#2977417)
OK, maybe it was 2004 when the brought Maddon in.
   918. Darren Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:57 PM (#2977418)
ekogan,

It's a funny concept but the kid's way too cutesy.
   919. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:58 PM (#2977419)
Hey, it's a guy who can throw a first-pitch strike!
   920. Chip Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:58 PM (#2977420)
The cowbells right now aren't bothering me as much as that idiot with the high-pitched whistle in the 9th of the Phillies game earlier.
   921. Darren Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:58 PM (#2977421)
Pap's fastball jarred the camera!
   922. Fly's New Handle Was Too Long, But Clever Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:58 PM (#2977422)
Why are they dressed like it's the 70's, though?

The father can't fit his giant freak head into any other shirts.
   923. ekogan Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:58 PM (#2977423)
Are the Red Sox more like Ivan Drago, Apollo Creed or Mr T? Discuss.
I'd go with Apollo, he was silled even if somewhat smug.
   924. kevin Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:58 PM (#2977424)
Rays fans, I could use a little less cowbell!
   925. Darren Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:59 PM (#2977425)
splitter!
   926. ekogan Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:59 PM (#2977426)
silled = skilled
   927. Chip Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:59 PM (#2977427)
SMOKE!
   928. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:59 PM (#2977428)
Crawford was overmatched.
   929. kevin Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:59 PM (#2977429)
97?? Is he throwing that hard?
   930. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:59 PM (#2977430)
96 down and in - that's unfair.
   931. Darren Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:59 PM (#2977431)
Uh, nevermind about that.
   932. Answer Guy Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:59 PM (#2977432)
Two outs to go.
   933. Fly's New Handle Was Too Long, But Clever Posted: October 10, 2008 at 11:59 PM (#2977433)
Craig Sager is wearing an illegally poached Grimace-skin jacket.
   934. villageidiom Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:00 AM (#2977434)
Apollo Creed.
   935. IJason Varitek Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:00 AM (#2977435)
One thing you have to say about Sager...

You can't ever accuse him of subliminal bias for one team or another based on what he's wearing.
   936. Darren Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:00 AM (#2977436)
Pap ties the record.
   937. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:00 AM (#2977437)
Are the Red Sox more like Ivan Drago, Apollo Creed or Mr T? Discuss.
This guy is a bulldozer with a wrecking ball attached
He'll leave a ring around your eye and tread marks on your back
He's an animal
He's hungry
You ain't been hungry, since "Supreme Clientele"
   938. Darren Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:00 AM (#2977438)
Thunderlips.
   939. Fly's New Handle Was Too Long, But Clever Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:00 AM (#2977439)
The rally visor. Nice.
   940. kevin Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:00 AM (#2977440)
Craig Sager: worst sportscoats and toupees in the world.
   941. Chip Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:01 AM (#2977441)
I did not know Papelbon's father worked for the Ted Williams Museum.

My in-laws live in Beverly Hills, FL, right next door to Hernando, where it used to be, and yet the damn place was always closed when we tried to visit it on trips there.
   942. tfbg9 Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:01 AM (#2977442)
Keep throwing fastballs.
   943. The Marksist Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:01 AM (#2977443)
Craig Sager is wearing an illegally poached Grimace-skin jacket.

That's funny. I laughed

So NESN or TBS for post-game? NESN?
   945. Darren Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:02 AM (#2977445)
I think I understand the whole Balfour thing now.
   946. tfbg9 Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:02 AM (#2977446)
Navarro doesn't K much either.
   947. IJason Varitek Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:02 AM (#2977447)
Man, the Rays look like they're about to lose the series
   948. ekogan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:03 AM (#2977448)
The Rays didn't bring enough cowbell.
   949. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:03 AM (#2977449)
There's one great Sager line every chatter. Now we got ours tonight.

From Game 4, I liked, "that's an intriguing question, giant talking pumpkin."
   950. Darren Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:03 AM (#2977450)

My in-laws live in Beverly Hills, FL,

So's your mom.
   951. Answer Guy Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:03 AM (#2977451)
One out to go.
   952. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:03 AM (#2977452)
How did he not offer at that one?
   953. tfbg9 Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:03 AM (#2977453)
Fastballs. At least until there's a baserunner.
   954. Darren Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:03 AM (#2977454)
He did offer.
   955. Dan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:04 AM (#2977455)
From Game 4, I liked when Papelbon said, "woo, I'm always ready baby," and sprayed him in the face with champagne.
   956. ekogan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:04 AM (#2977456)
Iwamura doesn't look like he thinks he's going to bat again in this game
   957. Benji Gil Gamesh Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:05 AM (#2977457)
Know who won Game 1? Those ones!
   958. Dan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:05 AM (#2977458)
Sick splitter.
   959. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:05 AM (#2977459)
Splitter!

What a game.
   960. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:05 AM (#2977460)
We got our game in Tampa. Excellent.

####
   962. Darren Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:05 AM (#2977462)
There's the splitter! Very nice.
   963. ekogan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:05 AM (#2977463)
YESSS!!!!

Game 1, Sox.

lovely
   966. Marcel Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:05 AM (#2977467)
Nice out. Great game tonight
   967. kevin Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:05 AM (#2977466)
Game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
   968. Dan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:05 AM (#2977468)
They didn't make the most of their scoring chances, wtf are you smoking Chip?
   969. Answer Guy Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:05 AM (#2977469)
Ballgame.
   970. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:05 AM (#2977470)
If Beckett can come out and be Beckett, this could be pretty awesome.
   971. kevin Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:05 AM (#2977471)
Got the homefield advantage back. yeehaw.
   972. TravisBedard Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:06 AM (#2977473)
State: Locked.
   973. Miko Supports Shane's Spam Habit Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:06 AM (#2977474)
Or, let's see some big hits. Ortiz?
   974. kevin Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:06 AM (#2977475)
papelbon was really bringing it. I think the long layoff did him a world of good.
   975. Darren Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:06 AM (#2977476)
Buck's comments brings up an important point: Masterson "succeeded" tonight and will likely be kept in the set up role.
   976. kevin Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:07 AM (#2977477)
State: Locked.

There's a blast from the BTF past.
   977. Darren Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:07 AM (#2977478)
Very happy for Dice.
   978. Baldrick Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:08 AM (#2977479)
Great game. I never stopped being nervous about Dice-K but he really was amazing.

1-0. Great place to be.
   979. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:08 AM (#2977480)
Sager is huge.
   980. IJason Varitek Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:08 AM (#2977481)
Wow, that thing is silk, too
   981. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:09 AM (#2977482)
Youk is frightened of Sager.
   982. tfbg9 Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:09 AM (#2977483)
Or just beat him with the split. Either way. Great game.
   983. kevin Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:09 AM (#2977484)
I didn't expect to win this game, quite frankly. I thought the Rays would get to the dicer.

i'm glad he proved me wrong.
   984. Chip Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:10 AM (#2977485)
The idiot Sager, unaware that Youkilis came up as a third baseman, asks him how he's handling the adjustment from first to third: "looked like you had trouble with that foul pop when Lowrie didn't hear you."
   985. tfbg9 Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:11 AM (#2977486)
The line on this game was: pick 'em.
   986. tfbg9 Posted: October 11, 2008 at 12:12 AM (#2977488)
I thought the Rays looked a little bit overanxious...maybe not.

The Longoria DP proding swing in the 8th actually looked like he was trying to roll one to
Lowrie.
