Stuff I want to see in this game:

A brawl, the tension is so high it needs to come out.

Catwalk!

Pictures of that new ballpark they want to build in St. Pete.

Dick Vitale

Rocco Baldelli hits a walk-off.

Stuff I don't want in this game:

The same damn TBS crew that I had to listen to through the Division Series. Maybe I'll see if it's on ESPN Radio.

Josh Beckett talking to the Red Sox trainer while rubbing his arm.

A key play involving a catwalk.

Anybody hit a walkoff. Think about it.

At least it's not Tim McCarver. Count your blessings.

Red Sox Game 2 lineup:

Ellsbury -- CF
Pedroia -- 2B
Ortiz -- DH
Youkilis -- 3B
Bay -- LF
Lowrie -- SS
Varitek -- C
Kotsay -- 1B
Crisp -- CF
Beckett SP

kevin the troll is now banned so this game chatter should actually be civil and intelligent.

Why was kevin banned?
   8. Darren Posted: October 11, 2008 at 07:09 PM (#2977874)
He said something nasty to Dan about closing up the political threads.
   9. Darren Posted: October 11, 2008 at 07:10 PM (#2977875)
I don't like that lineup. Looks like there will be a lot of empty space in RF.

Pictures of that new ballpark they want to build in St. Pete.

As far as I know, those plans were scrapped.

FCD: kevin the troll is now banned so this game chatter should actually be civil and intelligent.
That's funny.

-Why are we platooning Drew? Is he hurt? I'm assuming that this plan is not about Coco's superiority, but about Drew's back.

-The Yankees love AJ Burnett. That would be awesome.

-George W. Bush is instituting collective ownership of the means of production. I mean no political point by this - I think I think Bush is making a good choice - I'm just really weirded out by the whole world right now.
   12. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2008 at 07:35 PM (#2977887)
-And kevin's gone from Game Chatter. I always tried to avoid having beef with kevin, cause the dude carries beef like a freezer truck, and it's going to be really weird not to have him around now.

Again, weirded out by the world, overall.
   13. ekogan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 07:38 PM (#2977888)
Why is Coco Crisp being platooned with JD Drew for lefties?
Drew hit lefties better than Crisp this year by 135 OPS points.
Although if you go by 2005-2007 three year splits, Crisp is better 757 vs 740 OPS.
Still, I'd trust JD Drew more against a power pitcher.
ESPN's three year splits:
Crisp .988 vs finesse pitchers, .711 vs power
Drew: .870 vs finesse pitchers, .801 vs power.
   14. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2008 at 07:41 PM (#2977891)
The only explanation is that Tito and the FO don't think Drew's back can handle a full slate of postseason games. Platooning certainly doesn't make baseball sense, but if Drew can't play every game, then it makes sense to platoon to minimize the loss when he's out.
   15. The Ghost of Sox Fans Past Posted: October 11, 2008 at 07:43 PM (#2977892)
On the other hand, Crisp is a better baserunner and defender, which doesn't show in OPS. Drew may do better with more rest, too.
   16. ekogan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 07:45 PM (#2977894)
George W. Bush is instituting collective ownership of the means of production.

If you want the USA to make or not lose money from the bailout, getting stock for their money would be prudent. Warren Buffett gave a couple of billion to both Goldman Sachs and GE this month and received stock for it. Imitating Buffett is always a good idea. Of course, he received absolutely ridiculous deals from these desperate companies, I doubt the USofA would be able to get the same bargains, but at least, when the government sells back its investment in less panicky times, it will be able to make its money back.
   17. ekogan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 07:51 PM (#2977895)
kevin the troll is now banned

Kevin is not a troll, he's just quick with his flame thrower.
He usually starts with a sensible message, and only if someone keeps arguing with him starts with ad hominem attacks.
And anybody who argues with kevin deserves them.

GREETINGS from my undisclosed location!

How does everyone feel about Beckett tonight? I'm wondering if the cowbells will cause him to hurl a ball into the seats.
   19. Dan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 07:56 PM (#2977897)
I have no idea what to expect from Beckett. Hopefully he's gotten healthier since his start vs. the Angels.
   20. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2008 at 07:58 PM (#2977898)
Not positive on Beckett. He was really, really lucky to give up only 4 runs against the Angels - 2 HR and 4 BB in 6 innings - he was missing several mph off the fastball, and he hung a plethora of breaking pitches.

But pitchers are funny. He got a week off, and he's one of the best in the world if he feels right.

Bon Jovi--worst band ever? They're way up there.

Everybody in the Applebee's ad is at least slightly overweight.

I could be 400 feet below the Chelsea Market in Manhattan and still have Craig Sager boring through the brick, mortar, concrete, and granite to hurt my brain. And that's just his jackets.

Gamingboy - are you serious? Devo are an excellent band? Quite seminal and they have about 10 songs which leave Whip It for dead.

I'm saddened
   28. tfbg9 Posted: October 11, 2008 at 08:08 PM (#2977908)
Bon Jovi is far worse tan Devo. Devo was semi-crappy on purpose.
   29. Gamingboy Posted: October 11, 2008 at 08:08 PM (#2977909)
Lassus, stop lying. I know you are under the Museum of the American Indian, stop trying to lie. It is a habit of mine to know the locations of those with ambitions of Global Domination.

Ellsbury needs to bunt here and there...
   32. Dan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 08:10 PM (#2977912)
He does need to bunt here and there, but I'd rather see him working the count like this to start a game than dropping a bunt.
   33. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2008 at 08:10 PM (#2977913)
Once they got two strikes on Ellsbury, everything was down and in. Somebody's got a scouting report.
   34. Gamingboy Posted: October 11, 2008 at 08:11 PM (#2977914)
I got no problem with Mark Mothersbaugh. I just have a problem with the band he was part of.

Okay, since a shocking number of Devo fans are on BBTF, I bring you the undisputed worst act of all time..

At least Bon Jovi is "singing" (if you call it that) when he performs.
