I love these ads. I love how sickly bizarre they are. I don't even entirely get them. I just know they will offend someone.
   402. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:50 PM (#2978297)
Those VW commercials are really bizarre. a little awesome, I think.

Do "pride of lions" and "pack of wolves" have different connotations?

Well the set-up is different.
   404. ekogan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:51 PM (#2978299)
If Francona lets Beckett face the top of the order again, I will smash my TV.

Considering that my TV is 10 years old that's not such a bad thing.
   405. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:52 PM (#2978300)
Beckett's going to be pitching the 5th.

It will be the wrong call.

Elephants are herbivorous

I know. I was joking about the adjective "passive".

Are there Rays fans here? I'm only aware of Jim.
   409. Dan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:52 PM (#2978305)
It's kind of odd that VW is pimping the Routan with all this talk about "German engineering" when it's a Dodge Caravan with a VW-styled front clip.
   410. Marcel Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:53 PM (#2978306)
Holy ####! Go hobbit!
   411. Dan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:53 PM (#2978307)
That looked like a replay.

I vote we don't bring politics into this Game Chatter.

PEDROIA! AGAIN!
   413. Fly's New Handle Was Too Long, But Clever Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:53 PM (#2978309)
Pedroia has 2 line drive home runs tonight.

Both have been called "fly balls" by Caray.
   414. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:53 PM (#2978310)
"Another fly ball"

The man is infallible.

Atta boy, Saw-Off!
   416. Chip Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:53 PM (#2978312)
Kazmir wants to prove he can suck just as much as Beckett.
   417. Chip Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:54 PM (#2978314)
The graphic shows it was a 78 MPH hanging changeup, and Martinez calls it a high fastball.
   418. Esoteric roots for the two worst teams in baseball Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:54 PM (#2978315)
This is ridiculous
   419. Chip Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:54 PM (#2978316)
Also makes Ellsbury's shitty AB to end last inning that much more painful.
   420. ekogan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:54 PM (#2978317)
If only Ellsbury could get on in front of Pedroia.
   421. Lassus Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:54 PM (#2978318)
I'm rooting for the Rays to at least make this a longer series, does that count?
   422. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:54 PM (#2978319)
The best part is the "another". He actually managed to call Pedroia's first home run incorrectly two innings after it happened.
   423. tfbg9 Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:55 PM (#2978320)
Well, the graphic is obviously f*cked. Because its Buck.
   424. cardsfanboy Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:55 PM (#2978321)
I guess I'm the only one that is kinda upset about the banning of Kevin. I don't agree with him most of the time, but his team is in the post season and it's fun to chat with your "btf friends" at a time like that.
   425. Fly's New Handle Was Too Long, But Clever Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:55 PM (#2978322)
You know, having complained about Caray for the last 6 games, I'll take him over Buck/McCarver 7 days a week, and twice on sundays.
   426. tfbg9 Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:56 PM (#2978323)
Papi is frustrated.
   427. Lassus Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:56 PM (#2978324)
Great shot of Pedroia and the chewing tobacco. Gross little man.
   428. E., Hinske Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:56 PM (#2978325)
Put in a lipper kids and you too can hammer home runs in the ALCS!
   429. Chip Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:56 PM (#2978326)
Darling is the only competent guy on this particular crew.

Two innings ago that would have been another ball "driven to right." Now it's "popped up."
   430. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:56 PM (#2978327)
Papi really needs to stop missing those.
   431. Dan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:56 PM (#2978328)
Ortiz-apopup. Doesn't quite have the same ring as Garcia-popup.
   432. Fly's New Handle Was Too Long, But Clever Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:56 PM (#2978329)

I'm upset, but this is the Sox playoff game chatter, not the ##### about the admins chatter. I separate my worlds, and I hope everyone else will do the same. Also, re: politics.
   433. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:57 PM (#2978330)
Opened up just a second early there.
   434. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:57 PM (#2978331)
Youk!

Remember the days when we couldn't hit Kazmir at all?
   435. tfbg9 Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:57 PM (#2978333)
Buck, his wrist is all messed up. Read stuff every once in a while about baseball.

YOUKS!!!
   436. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:57 PM (#2978332)
Frickin' home run derby.
   437. Fly's New Handle Was Too Long, But Clever Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:57 PM (#2978334)
YOUK!!!

And Caray called it mostly right!

I reject God and all his works.
   443. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:58 PM (#2978340)
In some ways, a 91 mph fastball with no command is the best batting practice there is.
   444. Chip Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:58 PM (#2978341)
YOUKS!

Martinez finally made a good point on that Ortiz flyball: that's a pitch when he's going well that he drives to left field, instead of trying to pull it. But the uncertainty about the wrist makes him cheat and try to get out in front of everything, instead of staying back on the ball.
   445. ekogan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:58 PM (#2978342)
not the ##### about the admins chatter

besides, if you ##### about the admins, you get banned.

Kazmir hasn't been right since July.
   447. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:58 PM (#2978344)
Sorry Eric. I know it's rough that you're not on the roster for the ALCS, but you'd think they'd at least splurge for tickets for you.

Youkilis really looks like the guy who cleans up after the circus animals.

Also, this game is going to be a long game.
   450. cardsfanboy Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:59 PM (#2978348)
I'm upset, but this is the Sox playoff game chatter, not the ##### about the admins chatter. I separate my worlds, and I hope everyone else will do the same. Also, re: politics.

I wasn't really complaining about the admins, don't have a problem with them in the slightest, just think the timing kinda sucks to a board regular(whether he is liked or not)

but I thought this was the Rays playoff chatter that has been hijacked by the Sox fans. :)
   451. E., Hinske Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:59 PM (#2978350)
And instead I'm stuck in an office in Toronto.
   452. Dan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 09:59 PM (#2978351)
#### it Biff. You just did it to me again.

When you're on MLB.tv, you should only refresh Game Chatter between batters.
   453. Marcel Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:00 PM (#2978352)
I enjoy Kevin in the game chatters. But I also get that sometimes he goes way overboard in the regular threads and at some point you're going to wind up paying for it.
   454. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:00 PM (#2978353)
Early in the game for Balfour.
   455. Chip Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:00 PM (#2978354)
Bold move by Maddon, going to Balfour in the 5th.
   456. Dan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:00 PM (#2978356)
Maddon uses Balfour early and often.

good to see balfour loves the olis like most aussies
   459. Dan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:01 PM (#2978358)
Don't you all remember Balfour coming in with 2 outs in the 5th to face Ortiz in the game Garza started at the Trop in September?
   460. tfbg9 Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:01 PM (#2978359)
Bold move by Maddon, going to Balfour in the 5th.

Bold?
   461. ekogan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:01 PM (#2978360)
Maddon will probably let Kazmir pitch to the bottom of the Sox order, past Bay nobody's scary there.
   462. ekogan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:01 PM (#2978361)
Damn I am an idiot
   463. Dan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:02 PM (#2978362)
Wow.
   464. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:02 PM (#2978363)
Going to Balfour is pretty cool.

HOLY ####! I did not see that coming. He's been unhittable.

BAY!!!

Beckett in line for a very cheap win.
   468. Ivan Grushenko of HK in Tokyo Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:02 PM (#2978367)
Why did Hinske not make the playoff roster? Is he hurt?
   469. Esoteric roots for the two worst teams in baseball Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:02 PM (#2978368)
MY GOD IT WON'T STOP.
   470. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:02 PM (#2978369)
Bay seems to have gotten Balfour back for that strikeout in the 8th last night.

Oh god...getting the lead almost guarantees that Beckett gets to go back out to try for the win.
   471. ekogan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:02 PM (#2978370)
Do they do something to the baseballs in Tropicana?
   472. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:02 PM (#2978371)
wow - crazy game
   473. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:03 PM (#2978372)
Manny homers in Game 2 - Bay homers in Game 2.
   474. Matt Clement of Alexandria Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:03 PM (#2978373)
Get Delcarmen up now.
   475. Dan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:03 PM (#2978374)
Oh god...getting the lead almost guarantees that Beckett gets to go back out to try for the win.

My thoughts exactly.

He's missing with his special fastball.
   480. Dan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:04 PM (#2978379)
Varitek vs. Balfour's fastball. This should be hilarious.
   481. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:05 PM (#2978381)
Varitek stands no chance against Balfour, of course. Balfour can just pump 95 MPH fastballs down the middle, if he can manage that.
   482. Theo Epstein Apologists (Hanley Ramirez Chapter) Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:05 PM (#2978382)
I guess I'm the only one that is kinda upset about the banning of Kevin. I don't agree with him most of the time, but his team is in the post season and it's fun to chat with your "btf friends" at a time like that.

I imagine Kevin is at home, pounding wine collers, listening to "How do I live" by Leann Rimes on repeat. Tough times.
   483. tfbg9 Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:05 PM (#2978383)
Start the bat...NOW!!!
   484. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:05 PM (#2978385)
#### you Dan. I'm not giving you a Coke for this one.
   485. Dan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:05 PM (#2978384)
I would bat Drew here. But Francona is far too conservative for that.
   486. Theo Epstein Apologists (Hanley Ramirez Chapter) Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:05 PM (#2978386)
Wow, I spelled coolers wrong... that's pretty bad.
   487. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:06 PM (#2978387)
So I missed the start of the game...did Drew just sit because of Kazmir, and not because of last night's HBP?
   488. Chip Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:06 PM (#2978388)
Lefty Tek against Balfour? Should be a total mismatch. But the way this game is going, he'll probably close his eyes and walk into one.
   489. Dan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:06 PM (#2978389)
#### you Dan. I'm not giving you a Coke for this one.

Now you're just being a poor sport.
   490. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:06 PM (#2978390)
Where in the hell did the 1-0 miss?
   491. Dan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:07 PM (#2978391)
Only 92?
   492. tfbg9 Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:07 PM (#2978392)
kevin, if you're lurking just re-register as "Stinky Matthews",

so we'll all know who you really are, and you can watch the ALCS with us.
   493. ekogan Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:07 PM (#2978393)
Since there is a man on base, a homerun is impossible here
   494. E., Hinske Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:07 PM (#2978394)
Is this camera angle that far off?
   495. Chip Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:08 PM (#2978395)
Tek started the bat last week and still couldn't get on top of that 2-1 pitch, which looked hittable.
   496. Biff, Red Sox Jinx Posted: October 11, 2008 at 10:08 PM (#2978397)
I just spotted kevin in the SOSH Game Thread. I think he'd rather be here.

That's the word, Biffer-bird.
