Dear Baseball,

Please stop giving us World Series that totally suck balls.

Your pal,
RMc

No kidding. The last 6 game series was in 2003. This will be four straight years of lame, one-sided contests.

From my research, MLB has not experienced so many lame Series in a row since 1913-1916.

Again, and hopefully for the last time this time, Good Luck to the Rox and their followers, especially all their fans at this here site.

Cook's a pretty big-time groundballer, right? If he's on, that may both give the Sox trouble, and annoy the hell out of me, as for some reason I get all angry and stuff when some guy succesfully groundballs the Red Sox.

Make him come at you, and take him oppo whenever possible. That's how you beat a groundballer. Easier said than done, of course.

Hard to believe that Ellsbury and Pedroia are both playing such a big role in a successful team.

I'd love to win tonight. 7-0 would be the coolest thing ever for the girls.
   7. Answer Guy Posted: October 28, 2007 at 07:44 PM (#2597292)
I have a hard time picturing that I could be surprised by anything that happens tonight.

I'm 50/50 here. I think the Sox offense has a slightly better chance of turning the game into a blowout but I give the Rockies the edge in a close game.

For the Red Sox, Okajima is really not an option tonight, and Papelbon is probably limited. Delcarmen and Timlin did work last night - they're probably available but you're not going to push either too much. That means that there's a good chance that any late high leverage innings may end up involving pitchers I don't really trust on the mound.

Colorado has used a lot of relivers too, but I think they're A-list guys are a bit more rested.
   8. IronChef Chris Wok Posted: October 28, 2007 at 07:47 PM (#2597294)
If we don't finish this thing off... yeah.

I think they're A-list guys are a bit more rested.

I think everybody last night went other than Corpas and Speier. Matt Herges and Affeldt were unhittable last night, but we scored off of Fuentes.
   9. Answer Guy Posted: October 28, 2007 at 07:49 PM (#2597296)
I like my odds better in Game 5 than in Game 4, just because Beckett > Lester, I would expect the bullpen A-list to be better rested if there's a game tomorrow, and in any event the Sox have proven they can handle Francis.
   10. The Piehole of David Wells Posted: October 28, 2007 at 08:04 PM (#2597304)
it should be illegal to list the game as starting at 8:00 when first pitch is at 8:29. fuxing axholes. i hate fox.

dude, this is game 4 of the world series with the sox up 3-0. if it's close and late, they're available.

Yes, but I don't have much confidence in Okajima doing well if he's summoned to pitch tonight; he threw 29 pitches last night. Or, really, Timlin. He got the two outs he had two but neither one was confidence-inspiring. Papelbon faced 5 batters; I could see him coming in but I'm not sure I'd be confident asking him to get >3 outs again.

I smell another blowout. When was the last time Cook pitched?
   14. Joe Bivens, Ditch Digger Posted: October 28, 2007 at 08:18 PM (#2597319)
He hasn't pitched since August 10th. The Rockies are obviously desperate, but this seems silly.

Lester hasn't pitched that much in a while either.
   17. Joe Bivens, Ditch Digger Posted: October 28, 2007 at 08:20 PM (#2597322)
I hope that's not true, Phil. Because that would make your kids kittens, or something.
   18. tfbg9 Posted: October 28, 2007 at 08:20 PM (#2597323)
Hopefully for us, Cook will be as rusty as coventional wisdom might suggest. Wait and see...and did I mention how much I hate watching the Sox get groudballed to death?

dude, this is game 4 of the world series with the sox up 3-0. if it's close and late, they're available.

I disagree. With Beckett going tomorrow and the Sox up 3-0, I'd be tempted to limit Okajima + Papelbon to an out or two each, or 10 pitches. This is probably the Imp of the Perverse talking, but with a 3/4 run lead in the 9th, I'd give the ball to Gagne (with Papelbon warming, of course).
   20. Joe Bivens, Ditch Digger Posted: October 28, 2007 at 08:22 PM (#2597326)
Correct me if I'm wrong, Sandy, but they don't have 3/4 runs in baseball, do they?

(I know what you meant.)

they don't have 3/4 runs in baseball, do they?

Is that when two batters draw walks, and then you strand them? I think the Sox lead the league.
   22. Miko Supports Shane's Spam Habit Posted: October 28, 2007 at 08:24 PM (#2597329)
When the Rockies shut down Aaron Cook for the season, I thought it their wild card chase was over.
   23. plink Posted: October 28, 2007 at 08:25 PM (#2597330)
Hmmm. I probably wouldn't go to Gagne if the Sox had a fractional run lead, you're right. Also, Sandy?

It's almost like the gun is picking up the speed at the plate. I wonder if that's the reading that's being posted on the Stadium gun in order to make Lester believe he has no stuff.
