I have a bad feeling about this game.

Now that that's out of the way, I need advice. Should I start James today on my Fantasy team? He's had two bad starts in a row, so I figure that he's due for a good one... except for that whole Coors field thing. Any thoughts?
   3. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: April 27, 2007 at 12:02 PM (#2347250)
Lots of room for those flyballs to drop in. Would the the dry air impact the grip on his change-up?
   4. LatNam is busy defending freedom. Posted: April 27, 2007 at 01:23 PM (#2347345)
I really don't know. I'm torn. I won't be able to absorb a big ERA or WHIP hit, but I need SOs and Ws.
   5. rb's team is inventing new ways to lose! Posted: April 27, 2007 at 01:24 PM (#2347346)
Remember back in the day when colorado was always a series you would worry about, because of the pitchers? And now it feels like just another stadium the braves play in.

I would start him. I don't think the rockies offense is all that great.
   6. LatNam is busy defending freedom. Posted: April 27, 2007 at 01:47 PM (#2347359)
I've thought about it, and I think I'm going to start him. Thanks for the help guys. Just know that if things go bad, I'll really be feeling it. =D haha

I'm benching Chuck James on my fantasy team. So I'm assuming he'll hold to form for every starter I've ever had on my bench for my fantasy team and throw 8 IP, giving up only 4 hits and one run.

As has always been my experience. Well, I've got him starting, so one of our streaks will end.

BTW, the AJC is reporting that part of Smoltz's 14M in '08 is being paid in the form of a signing bonus this year. Guess where that couple mill is coming from? The insurance windfall from Hampton's contract. So in reality Smoltz is on the books for what I'd estimate to be around 10M in 2008.
   10. Mike Hampton's #1 Fan Posted: April 27, 2007 at 04:13 PM (#2347486)
I'm still smarting from that stupid, stupid loss to the Fish.
   11. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: April 27, 2007 at 05:45 PM (#2347553)
Great. The Braves are facing another lefty. Will Thorman ever start two games in a row?
   12. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: April 27, 2007 at 06:18 PM (#2347574)
I really don't know if you should start James. Holliday, Atkins and Hawpe always seem to kill us.
But yea, their offence has been sucking. Jamey Carroll starts at 2b !

Time for Wilson to get untracked. Maybe he needs a nickname to get him started

I thought he was Loki, to stick with the Norse theme.

Oooh, there's a hit! Nice, since his first two swings were laughably bad. Now lets see if Chuck James B##th can do anything with the bases loaded.
   14. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: April 27, 2007 at 09:30 PM (#2347873)
Bad bad start
Chipper GIDP on the first pitch, noone out
James GIDP to pitcher with bases loaded, noone out

ARGHHHHH
   15. Brian White Posted: April 27, 2007 at 09:36 PM (#2347884)
*sigh*

So they're on pace to leave 22.5 men on base, and now Hacky McFreedompants drops a catchable ball to give Holliday a double.
   16. LatNam is busy defending freedom. Posted: April 27, 2007 at 09:40 PM (#2347893)
I was screaming at James not to swing at all when he was at bat there. I guess he didn't hear me up there in Denver. At least he's looked good on the mound so far.
   17. Brian White Posted: April 27, 2007 at 09:42 PM (#2347897)
Yes! One more baserunner to get stranded!
   18. LatNam is busy defending freedom. Posted: April 27, 2007 at 09:48 PM (#2347909)
Ugly swing there from Hacky... Got it through there though... Lets go McCann!!
   19. LatNam is busy defending freedom. Posted: April 27, 2007 at 09:52 PM (#2347918)
So.. 2 an inning? 18 stranded by the end?
   20. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: April 27, 2007 at 09:57 PM (#2347934)
McCann had a slow start last season. Things changed for him post ASB when he started driving the ball to opposite field. Start of this year, while he has gotten singles opposite field, he hasn't driven the ball that way, always popping it up

Though I am sure he will get around.
Chuckie is looking good, good job Latnam
   21. LatNam is busy defending freedom. Posted: April 27, 2007 at 09:59 PM (#2347936)
Well, so far James has delivered on the mound. (together with Capuano's strong performance, James would have to really melt down tonight to hurt me) I'd really like some runs support as both the Braves and I could use the W.
   22. LatNam is busy defending freedom. Posted: April 27, 2007 at 10:02 PM (#2347946)
How will the Braves not score this inning?
   23. LatNam is busy defending freedom. Posted: April 27, 2007 at 10:07 PM (#2347964)
Aha! They did score, it was a trick question.

Kelly Johnson is going to be the key to the team this year.
   24. Brian White Posted: April 27, 2007 at 10:10 PM (#2347972)
Man, if Tulowitski were one step quicker going to his right, the Braves would have three fewer hits.

Two hits with RISP! That's a pleasant change. I wonder what Tavares was doing throwing home. He had no chance to catch Kelly Johnson with his noodle arm, and let Renteria take second. When Holliday tried to throw out Diaz, at least that was understandable.

KJ is not on the All Star Ballot? How do you get him in?

KJ is not on the All Star Ballot? How do you get him in?

I guess you do the write-in option..

If he keeps going like he's going, he should get there no problem. But he has almost 0% chance to start.
   27. LatNam is busy defending freedom. Posted: April 27, 2007 at 10:18 PM (#2347991)
Whatta catch.
   28. Brian White Posted: April 27, 2007 at 10:22 PM (#2348002)
Well, even if KJ is on the ballot, I don't think he's knocking off Chase Utley any time soon. He might be a justified backup, though.

Hey, Happy Walksmore takes ball four!
   29. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: April 27, 2007 at 10:23 PM (#2348005)
KJ not on the ASG ballot? Blasphemy!
   30. LatNam is busy defending freedom. Posted: April 27, 2007 at 10:30 PM (#2348020)
Chip just said something that is actually worth noting: James has a bunch of ground balls tonight. Good to see(for selfish reasons), but very odd given his history. I don't expect it to be a sign of anything, just an interesting anomaly.
   31. Ignatius J. Reilly Posted: April 27, 2007 at 10:34 PM (#2348028)
Chuck James: the groundball king!?!?!?!

This matchup raises a question. Who's a more valuable asset, Francis or James?
   32. LatNam is busy defending freedom. Posted: April 27, 2007 at 10:36 PM (#2348032)

Oh, he is. I just went to check and vote. So remain calm everyone.

I guess theres a first time for everything...

Loki!

Hey, good to see Wilson do what he can do.

This matchup raises a question. Who's a more valuable asset, Francis or James?

Personally, I'm biased towards James. But I think that it has a lot to do with the team he plays for. Its hard for a pitcher to have a high value on the Rockies. (In my opinion.)
   36. Brian White Posted: April 27, 2007 at 10:48 PM (#2348055)
There's a nice five run cushion. Thanks, Andruw.
   37. LatNam is busy defending freedom. Posted: April 27, 2007 at 11:00 PM (#2348077)
It would suck so much for James to get hurt.
   38. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: April 27, 2007 at 11:03 PM (#2348088)
Wasn't paying attention. Did James get hurt?
what the #### is wrong with him anyway? given nice 5 run lead and suddenly can't throw strikes...Don't think he has pitched more than 6 innings in any ball game this year
   39. Brian White Posted: April 27, 2007 at 11:04 PM (#2348090)
Aw, crap. Too many seeing eye singles.
   40. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: April 27, 2007 at 11:04 PM (#2348092)
crap..Yates back to the pitcher we know and hate
   41. Brian White Posted: April 27, 2007 at 11:06 PM (#2348099)
Looks like James is fine. Bobby went out to check on him (apparently he didn't look right or something), but he stayed in the game, gave up a pair of singles, and was pulled.
   42. Brian White Posted: April 27, 2007 at 11:46 PM (#2348124)
I wish Bobby would quit using Soriano and Gonzalez in these five and six run games. Soriano is on pace for over 75 innings this year, and I don't think that's a good idea with his history of arm problems.
   43. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: April 27, 2007 at 11:56 PM (#2348129)
Gonzalez, Soriano and Wickman in a 9-4 game?

And we got Smoltz ( who has become a6 inning pitcher ) and HR Derby, who is a 3 inning pitcher starting the next 2 games ugh
Atleast a win though

Wilson got untracked! Somehow I don't think Loki works. I am thinking Beach Boy ( Wilson --> beach boy ) and ofcourse he is from socal
   44. Brian White Posted: April 28, 2007 at 12:06 AM (#2348136)
Oh crikey. The tying run is at the plate in the person of Todd Helton.

WTF, Wickman?
   45. LatNam is busy defending freedom. Posted: April 28, 2007 at 12:06 AM (#2348138)
Wickman's getting on my bad side.
   46. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: April 28, 2007 at 12:08 AM (#2348139)
#### #### ####!
i spoke too early

Serves Bobby right for bringing in Wickman there
Cmon..Colyer?
   47. LatNam is busy defending freedom. Posted: April 28, 2007 at 12:09 AM (#2348140)
Well, to defend Wickman, he shouldn't have been in the game anyway.. Secondly, he's been in too many games recently. And thirdly, we're screwed.
   48. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: April 28, 2007 at 12:12 AM (#2348141)
thats a strike to frickin Helton!

stupid ump
   49. LatNam is busy defending freedom. Posted: April 28, 2007 at 12:13 AM (#2348142)
I'm having flashbacks... this is 2007 right? Not 2006?
   50. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: April 28, 2007 at 12:13 AM (#2348143)
what the #### has happened to the braves in the last 2 games?
blow a cold 3-0 game in the previous one..
and now a 9-4 game becomes a 9-7 with 2 runners on?!
   51. Brian White Posted: April 28, 2007 at 12:14 AM (#2348145)
Sigh.

Winning run at the plate.

I understand that Wickman might be tired, but there's no excuse for walking two batters. He threw a 3-2 curve to Tulowitski. I mean, even if he launches one, its still 9-7. Just throw a fastball down the middle.
   52. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: April 28, 2007 at 12:16 AM (#2348146)
PHEWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW

Holliday almost won that. Nice play Frenchy
Can someone gag Chip please? Chip Caray that is
   53. LatNam is busy defending freedom. Posted: April 28, 2007 at 12:16 AM (#2348147)
Whew.... we needed that catch... got my blood pumping at any rate.
   54. Brian White Posted: April 28, 2007 at 12:16 AM (#2348148)
Geez. That was a lot more exciting than it needed to be.

Ah well, its in the books. And Moylan gets the classic one-pitch save.
   55. LatNam is busy defending freedom. Posted: April 28, 2007 at 12:19 AM (#2348150)
And the march towards 154-8 continues...
