we need marshall to keep pitching over his head, this is a huge game in the series, the cusb take this and a sweep is a real possibility

I imagine the move has less to do with Petrick's performance and more with the need for a fresh arm in the pen.
   4. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 03:58 PM (#2423943)
Fontenot isn't going to get many more starts at SS if he keeps doing that.
   5. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:04 PM (#2423958)
Braun off the ivy! 1-0 Brew Crew!

That probably would have left if the wind wasn't blowing in...
   6. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:05 PM (#2423965)
Prince doubles!

3-0 Brew Crew!

Still no out...
   7. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:08 PM (#2423971)
Lou bringing in the infield in the first inning (one out)???
   8. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:08 PM (#2423976)
Estrada makes it 4-0 Brew Crew with the single!
   9. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:10 PM (#2423982)
ANOTHER MENCH WALK!!!!!!!!

Two in two days!

Sign of the apocalypse!
   10. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:10 PM (#2423983)
Wow, deja vu. With Sheets on the mound, I'm not too sure the Cubs can repeat what happened yesterday.
   11. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:13 PM (#2423989)
They'll clear Sheets' spot in the first inning. Nice.
   12. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:18 PM (#2424004)
Heh... Fontentot triples to make it 4-1 Brew Crew.

May not be a pitching duel.
   13. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:19 PM (#2424006)
The wind's blowing in, isn't it?
   14. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:20 PM (#2424007)
Yup...
   15. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:21 PM (#2424009)
Man, I really hope Lee's power comes back some day.
   16. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:21 PM (#2424010)
Sac fly to make it 4-2 Brewers...
   17. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:22 PM (#2424014)
Glad they cut the lead in half, but they aren't making Sheets work at all. Twelve pitches versus 31.
   18. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:23 PM (#2424015)
Man, I really hope Lee's power comes back some day.

Sheets has been throwing the changeup a LOT lately, when it used to be a rarely-used third pitch for him.

May have caught Lee off-guard, if he was only expecting fastball/curve.
   19. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:25 PM (#2424023)
Fontenot got moved to second base, and DeRosa moved to SS?

Guess Lou didn't like that error by Fontenot.
   20. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:29 PM (#2424029)
Prince off the CF wall/Pagan's glove!

5-2 Brew Crew!

Damn, THAT would have been a HR except for the wind.
   21. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:29 PM (#2424031)
Well, it WAS looking like a good inning. So much for getting back into it.
   22. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:30 PM (#2424033)
Hall doubles!

6-2 Brewers!
   23. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:31 PM (#2424039)
Estrada makes it 7-2!
   24. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:31 PM (#2424040)
That poor Cubs bullpen.
   25. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:34 PM (#2424045)
As an aside, I'm tired of seeing Pagan over Pie out there. I understand Pie's been struggling and Pagan's done enough to justify consideration for starts. But Pagan's really nothing more than a fourth outfielder. Pie's allegedly one of your future stars. Either play him every day or send him back down.
   26. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:34 PM (#2424046)
This start so far has shot Marshall's ERA up by over a run.
   27. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:36 PM (#2424052)
It was bound to happen. Marshall wasn't as good as his ERA had suggested. Still, he's looked better than last season. Just not today.
   28. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:38 PM (#2424059)
Also, as I said yesterday, I expected to lose at least one of these two games. The crucial one is tomorrow if this trend continues today.
   29. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:41 PM (#2424063)
They pounded Hill, they pounded Marshall (who is now gone)... it would be just like baseball for Marquis to pitch a gem.
   30. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:43 PM (#2424066)
I don't see the point of replacing Marshall. Yeah, he's really got nothing, but now your pen to go at least 13 innings in 24 hours. Plus, Eyre isn't going to be much of an improvement over Marshall.
   31. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:50 PM (#2424084)
Hardy triple makes it 8-2 Brew Crew!
   32. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:51 PM (#2424087)
Why can't the Trib just eat Eyre's contract? Clear a roster spot for someone who isn't awful.
   33. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:54 PM (#2424090)
Braun makes it 9-2!
   34. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:55 PM (#2424092)
You know, this bag of #### isn't even getting hit quickly. Almost 30 pitches ensures Lou's gonna need to go to the pen AGAIN the next inning.
   35. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:57 PM (#2424099)
Almost 30 pitches ensures Lou's gonna need to go to the pen AGAIN the next inning.

Unless the score shows indication of making a big shift in the bottom half of the inning, I'm not so sure.
   36. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2007 at 04:59 PM (#2424101)
Well, I'm not sure if Eyre's capable of throwing many more pitches. He was generally a one-inning guy and since he's been so awful this year, he's been regulated to low-pressure mop-up duty lately.

How's the Wrigley faithful reacted to Eyre's "performance?"
   37. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:01 PM (#2424104)
How's the Wrigley faithful reacted to Eyre's "performance?"

The same way they've reacted all day to Cubs pitching?
   38. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:04 PM (#2424116)
I wouldn't know; I'm getting the Tigers/Twins game.
   39. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:07 PM (#2424124)
On the bright side, if the trend continues, the Brewers should only score one run this inning.
   40. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:14 PM (#2424132)
KEVIN MENCH WALKS AGAIN!!!!!
Two walks today! Three in two days!
Look out Barry Bonds!

Rocky Cherry warming...
   41. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:18 PM (#2424139)
Hart loses a Ramirez flyball in the sun and falls down.

Gift triple.
   42. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:25 PM (#2424152)
Sheets strands the leadoff triple: lineout, SO, SO
   43. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:27 PM (#2424155)
Cherry in...
   44. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:32 PM (#2424160)
Fontenot makes ANOTHER error... this time at 2B.

That makes it 10-2 Brew Crew...
   45. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:45 PM (#2424185)
Lee, Soriano and Ramirez yanked from the game. The game has officially been punted.
   46. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:46 PM (#2424189)
Theriot immediately makes an error upon his insertion at 3B.
   47. Walt Davis Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:50 PM (#2424202)
Mickey Rivers? Career high 43 walks, 21 AB per walk in his career! Mench is under 14 AB per walk and has an identical career OBP to Rivers (326 vs 327).
   48. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 05:58 PM (#2424228)
Not the greatest D from Mench in attempting to flag that down.... 10-4 Brewers.
   49. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 06:00 PM (#2424236)
Zambrano may be a very good-hitting pitcher, but he looked like a little leaguer that AB against Sheets.
   50. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 06:05 PM (#2424252)
COUNSELL!!!!!

11-4 Brew Crew!
   51. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 06:17 PM (#2424282)
Pie vs. Sheets' curveball was a bit of a mismatch there (in Sheets' favor).
   52. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 06:18 PM (#2424284)
Sheets through seven (108 pitches):

7IP, 6H, 4R, 10SO, 1BB
   53. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: June 30, 2007 at 06:31 PM (#2424305)
Why is Sheets still in there?
   54. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 06:35 PM (#2424319)
He was absolutely locked in and cruising the last few. Those weren't high-stress pitches at all.
   55. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 06:39 PM (#2424327)
BRAUN!!!!!!!!!

13-4 Brew Crew!
   56. NTNgod Posted: June 30, 2007 at 06:52 PM (#2424348)
GAME OVER!

Brewers back to 14 over .500, and still have the best record in the NL!
