BILL HALL!

2-0 Brewers in the first...
   2. NTNgod Posted: September 28, 2006 at 08:34 PM (#2190817)
Two walks in the first inning for Marquis, two walks in the first inning for Davis.

This is sure turning out to be a crisply-pitched ballgame so far...
   3. NTNgod Posted: September 28, 2006 at 08:41 PM (#2190820)
Single and double to leadoff the second... 3-0 Brewers.

Go Marquis!
   4. Alan S Posted: September 28, 2006 at 08:42 PM (#2190822)
Why does ESPN find it necessary to show the Orioles facing the Yankees rather than this?
   5. NTNgod Posted: September 28, 2006 at 08:44 PM (#2190823)
Gwynn makes it 4-0 Brewers... so far, so good.
   6. Srul Itza Posted: September 28, 2006 at 08:48 PM (#2190827)
Hey, I recognize that line.

Go Stros.

The Cardinals may be collapsing, but if the Astros do not go on this winning streak, it would not have meant anything. If they take the Cards at the wire, they will have earned the spot.

And a Post-Season rotation headed by Oswalt, Clemens and Pettitte certainly has a chance in any series -- especially with the way the Mets' pitching is looking.

So just how crazy would it be if Clemens were to return to Yankee Stadium to pitch in a World Series? They wouldn't need the lights -- the flashbulbs would light up the field.

A boy can dream, can't he.

Nice play by Hall on the short hop, to grab, spin and throw...
   9. NTNgod Posted: September 28, 2006 at 08:57 PM (#2190841)
Hmm... if Marquis wasn't leading off next inning, would he still be in the game?
   10. Urban Faber Posted: September 28, 2006 at 08:57 PM (#2190842)
Marquis (14-15, 5.80)

There can't have been anyone else with those numbers in the history of the game. Can there?
   11. NTNgod Posted: September 28, 2006 at 08:58 PM (#2190843)

His ERA was up to 5.93 entering this inning.

Here's the hook finally... after the single and walk to start the third.
   13. Bob Koo Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:03 PM (#2190856)
Wow, so it looks the Astros will be 1/2 game out after this game.
   14. Urban Faber Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:03 PM (#2190857)
An ERA near 6 with likely 30 decisions. Strange. And he didn't hit this year, either, or I should say he hit more like a pitcher usually does.

Worse, much worse. Check out 1930.

Oops, Mr. Rolen.

5-0 Brewers.

Pre-humidor Colorado Rockies (1998)

Pedro Astacio W 13 L 14 ERA 6.23 209 innings.

good times...good times.
   18. NTNgod Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:05 PM (#2190865)
David Bell!

6-0 Brewers.

Maybe it wasn't just Marquis...
   19. There's a chill wind blowing in Misirlou's soul Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:07 PM (#2190869)
6-0 Brewers. The cards are making the cubs 2004 collapse looke quite tame by comparison.
   20. NTNgod Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:08 PM (#2190872)
7-0 Brewers, after the sac fly.
   21. NTNgod Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:09 PM (#2190879)
Man, Gwynn flying to beat the 3-1 putout. 8-0 Brewers!
   22. There's a chill wind blowing in Misirlou's soul Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:12 PM (#2190887)
I'm sure this has been brought up before, but has any team before today fielded a lineup with 3 sons of prominant MLB'ers?
   23. NTNgod Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:15 PM (#2190891)
There went the shutout...
   24. Urban Faber Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:19 PM (#2190894)
Forgot about '30. And Astacio. Thanks for setting me straight.

And because of those runners scoring against his relief, Marquis made it to 6.02 for the season - though hey, maybe he'll get to pitch the tiebreaker in Houston on Tuesday.

The cards are making the cubs 2004 collapse looke quite tame by comparison.

The '64 Phillies might be off the hook by the time this one is over. Incredible.

If they take the Cards at the wire, they will have earned the spot.

I call bull####. The Astros might finish something like 83-79 in the worst division in baseball. That they had two good weeks at the end of the season doesn't change the fact that the Astros (and Cardinals) are crap.
   26. Alan S Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:32 PM (#2190911)
If they do make it though, they almost certainly become the favorites in the National League.
   27. preterite Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:36 PM (#2190915)
Go Reds!

:*)
   28. NTNgod Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:37 PM (#2190920)
9-1 Brewers.

This scoring-run-stuff is fun.
   29. rembini06 Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:39 PM (#2190924)
Is Joaquin Andujar warming up? It'll be a shame if Marquis beats up the nice, new toilets.
   30. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:47 PM (#2190943)
Go Reds!

Yes! YES! The only suitable conclusion is St. Louis losing Monday to fall into a three-way tie, to be decided Tuesday and Wednesday, causing chaos in the NLDS schedule.
   31. Tom Poquette Posted: September 28, 2006 at 09:55 PM (#2190961)
Do you really think the Cards want to bother with Monday's game? They look like they are ready to go home for the season.
   32. NTNgod Posted: September 28, 2006 at 10:40 PM (#2191018)
That has to be it for Davis.

One of the uglier effective starts you'll see:

The only reason I'm actually hoping the Cardinals hold off the Astros is so that Pujols doesn't get screwed out of an MVP award by Ryan Howard. No team in the NL is all that strong, but I don't think the Cardinals could go deep in the Little League World Series this year. Were it not for Albert and the MVP, I'd prefer that they miss the playoffs so Jocketty would have an excuse to rebuild with players with a future rather than AAron Miles and the like.
