former cub vs former cardnial. should be intresting.
   2. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: May 04, 2008 at 02:38 PM (#2768481)
If you told me Wellemeyer would still be in the majors at this point after he left the Cubs I'd be surprised. If you told he'd be a starting pitcher for a first place team, I'd have thought you were nuts.
   3. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: May 04, 2008 at 02:39 PM (#2768482)
ESPN has to live this pitching matchup btw. Marquis! Wellemeyer!! SUNDAY NIGHT!!
   4. Guts Posted: May 04, 2008 at 04:24 PM (#2768584)
I'll be at the game, yelling obscenities at Marquis and razzing Cub fans as their team tees off on Wellemeyer. Should be a fun night.

I'll be at the game, yelling obscenities at Marquis

Something you and the Cub fans should be able to agree on.

Cedeno and Pie on the bench again despite outperforming their counterparts vs. righties, in Cedeno's case by a wide margin.

I think I'm going to cry.
   7. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 04, 2008 at 07:51 PM (#2768829)
So when do they give up on Pie? Because as long as Johnson's around, he's going to be a glorified bench player. You'd figure they'd let him go out there and do his thing since he's supposed to be the first Cub position prospect to amount to something since I've been watching the damn team.
   8. The Most Interesting Man In The World Posted: May 04, 2008 at 08:12 PM (#2768836)
Did I just hear Joe Morgan state that Reed Johnson has been getting on base, not just with hits, but with walks as well?
   9. The Most Interesting Man In The World Posted: May 04, 2008 at 08:16 PM (#2768837)
Ok Joe, so it's NOT important for people lower in the lineup to get on base? What if you lead off an inning with your #6 hitter. He pops out and then his manager says "That's ok, it's not important for you to get on base".

He did state it is important for the top of the lineup to get on base. At least it's a start.
   10. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: May 04, 2008 at 08:30 PM (#2768843)
I can only assume that Marquis will be pulled if he walks Kennedy here.
   11. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: May 04, 2008 at 08:37 PM (#2768851)
What blows my mind about this Pie thing is they made this big stink about how they weren't giving up on Pie, how Lou was taking private time to work with him, they called up minor league hitting coordinator Dave Keller to work with him, so since all that's gone down:

Pie: .304 .393 .478
Johnson: .262 .347 .295

We also have last week where Lou talked about Cedeno in his press conference talking about how he's hitting the hell out of the ball and how he's going to find him somewhere to play because of it.

In the week since:

Cedeno: 0 GS, 1.000 1.000 1.500
Theriot: 5 GS, .280 .308 .280

Lou Piniella is a big fraud who poops his pants.
   12. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: May 04, 2008 at 08:39 PM (#2768853)
It's the only thing you bring to the table Marquis!!
   13. The Most Interesting Man In The World Posted: May 04, 2008 at 08:42 PM (#2768854)
Does anybody else think that the ESPN "Fantasy Updates" are to put it politely, intrusive?
   14. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2768856)
Hey folks! It's 9:35 am here in cloudy Nagoya, Japan. Today is Children's Day here in Japan, so I have no work (despite it being Monday). Since I'm actually awake and here for one of these things, let's have a good chatter!
   15. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 08:46 PM (#2768858)
Given that the Cubs have scored two and the Cubs fan presence on the chatters are ######## out the players and Lou, I can only assume this will not be a good chatter. :-(
   16. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: May 04, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2768860)
Worked out with Mark McGwire in the offseason, that's not gonna incite jokes at all.
   17. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2768861)
Of course, with Marquis giving up singles to Wellemeyer and Itzuris, he probably deserves some ######## out...
   18. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: May 04, 2008 at 08:48 PM (#2768862)
Todd Wellemeyer, Cesar Izturis, Skip Schumaker.
   19. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 08:49 PM (#2768864)
Crap. By which I mean, "Oh, crap!" and "Marquis, you pitch like crap!"
   20. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 08:51 PM (#2768866)
Given SSR(rfd)'s #18, it also fits nicely as "Wellemeyer, Izturis, and Schumaker hit like crap, so why are they scoring runs?"
   21. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2768868)
So this is the way it's going to be, eh, Marquis? You're just going to keep making me come up with new ways to say you suck? Can't get out the inning, maybe even get one frickin' out for some respite?
   22. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 08:54 PM (#2768869)
Followed by getting Albert Freakin' Pujols to ground into the DP while I was typing. Well played, Mr. Marquis. Well played.
   23. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 08:55 PM (#2768872)
Jeez, this game moves fast. I tab out just to type out #22, and before I know it, Lee is making an out on a slider. I hate using Gameday!
   24. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 08:56 PM (#2768874)
Seven pitch walk from Fukudome! I like!
   25. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: May 04, 2008 at 08:59 PM (#2768875)
I don't think Pujols and Marquis like each other. I seem to recall some ######### comment from Pujols after Marquis shut them down last year saying how he's no good and he got lucky.

I mean, yeah, he's right but you don't say it.
   26. Lassus Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:00 PM (#2768876)
When oh when will my Fantasy CF Sori snap out of it? When, when when?

In some grand comedy of drafting lunacy, I also ended up with DeRosa, Aramis, and Wood.

I'm a METS fan! Oy.
   27. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:03 PM (#2768878)
Damn, no help from Geovany. I appreciate that Todd Wellemeyer is not a good pitcher and all, but with the exception of Fukudome the Cubs are up there hacking away.
   28. Lassus Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:06 PM (#2768882)
Whooooo, um, nice catch, Sori?
   29. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:06 PM (#2768883)
Strike out from Ankiel. If Ankiel were still a pitcher, he would have tagged Marquis for extra bases there.
   30. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:07 PM (#2768884)
According to Gameday, Marquis just through a pitch through Duncan's intangible knee...
   31. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:08 PM (#2768885)
Duncan technically qualifies as "bottom (half) of the order", so Marquis wanted no piece of him.
   32. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:10 PM (#2768887)
Hey Marquis? You know your first pitch this PA, wherein you threw the ball over the outside third of the plate, and the umpire called it a strike? That was a good one.
   33. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:10 PM (#2768888)
Nice! As I typed that, Marquis went to the exact same place and got a ground out.
   34. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:15 PM (#2768893)
Okay, a double by Fontenot. Good thing we have...Johnson and...Marquis up...

Okay, let's see some scrubby heroics, Johnson!
   35. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:17 PM (#2768894)
Coaching visit. According to Gameday, Johnson is my height and about 20 pounds heavier. My age, too. I should probably root for him on general principle.
   36. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:20 PM (#2768896)
Damn. Apparently not deep enough to advance Fontenot. What kind of arm does Shumaker have?
   37. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:22 PM (#2768899)
Ugh. Marquis can't even advance the runner. Sucktastic!
Maybe we'll see some heroics from Soriano?
   38. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:22 PM (#2768900)
Apparently, Soriano's swinging at pitches in the left-handers batter's box...
   39. 100 Years is Nothing Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:23 PM (#2768901)
It's good to see Sori flailing at those low outside curves, swing as hard as he can, ala Shawon Dunston. He is quite the leadoff hitter, no?
   40. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:23 PM (#2768902)
I've only seen the Gameday, but I think I can ask:

WHAT THE #### WAS THAT, SORIANO?
   41. Lassus Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:26 PM (#2768905)
I'm responsible. I drafted him. He was done for the year at that moment.
   42. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:26 PM (#2768906)
If Marquis can't advance the hitter, noone can!

wait, he was hitting!?! well, kinda still holds true
   43. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:27 PM (#2768907)
Izturis is Marquis' Nemesis.
   44. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:28 PM (#2768908)
I'm responsible. I drafted him. He was done for the year at that moment.

Well, there are 6 more years to go?!

Whenever I see Soto, I am reminded fo this italian place called Sotto Sotto. makes me wanna go look for some italian food!
   45. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:29 PM (#2768909)
Jesus, Marquis, throw strikes. You don't want two guys on base with Pujols up, dumbass.
   46. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:29 PM (#2768910)
Izturis is Marquis' Nemesis.

well, that sums up his career
   47. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:30 PM (#2768912)
Marquis, you suck in three very specific ways.
   48. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:30 PM (#2768913)
So hard.
   49. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:32 PM (#2768915)
So bad.
   50. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:32 PM (#2768916)
And wicked bad.
   51. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:33 PM (#2768918)
CFiJ, you a lyrics writer for Bon Jovi?
   52. Meatwad Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:33 PM (#2768919)
why the hell isnt aram playing?
   53. Eric J Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:36 PM (#2768921)
He took a pitch off the wrist on Friday. Missed yesterday too.

I'd rather know why Cedeno isn't playing, although Fontenot's having a good day so far.
   54. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:37 PM (#2768922)
why the hell isnt aram playing?

He strained his groin err..doing something
   55. 100 Years is Nothing Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:37 PM (#2768923)
Aram is recovering from being hbp in the wrist on Friday night. It looked quite painful, and sure hope itr won't affect his power like that wrist injury did to MVLee two years ago.
   56. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:37 PM (#2768924)
If one ever wants to know how much Marquis sucks after the calendar turns from April 30 to May 1, consider that he was pitching league average as of April 30, and now on May 5 he's getting outpitched by Todd Wellemeyer.

WELLEMEYER!!!!
   57. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:39 PM (#2768927)
Wellemeyer really has Lee's number...
   58. 100 Years is Nothing Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:43 PM (#2768929)
Good to see Theriot run us out of another inning.... again. When does Cedeno start in his place? He is playing like Cedeno did last year, with all the stupid baserunning mistakes, and all the errors.
   59. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:43 PM (#2768930)
Leadoff walk with Lee, Fukudome coming up and nothing? Against WELLEMEYER!!
   60. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:47 PM (#2768932)
Pardon me for being both oblivous, out of the loop, and forgetful, but I just realized that Troy Glaus is playing for the Cards. Weird.
   61. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:48 PM (#2768934)
Obviously, that sentence got away from me.
   62. CFiJ Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:51 PM (#2768940)
What's going on over Stateside? Sunday night, game on ESPN, Cubs-Cardinals, and the guy watching on Gameday in Japan is responsible for two-thirds of the meager Game Chatter?
   63. Bicycle RepairMan Posted: May 04, 2008 at 09:52 PM (#2768941)
What's going on over Stateside? Sunday night, game on ESPN, Cubs-Cardinals, and the guy watching on Gameday in Japan is responsible for two-thirds of the meager Game Chatter?

Its Marquis v Wellemeyer, while the NBA and NHL playoffs are ongoing..
   64. Meatwad Posted: May 04, 2008 at 10:00 PM (#2768948)
how are we losing to wellemeyer? this is nuts
   65. Meatwad Posted: May 04, 2008 at 10:06 PM (#2768953)
#### it i give up tonight
   66. 100 Years is Nothing Posted: May 04, 2008 at 10:20 PM (#2768968)
BTW CFiJ, you might be able to catch the game here: http://www1.myp2p.eu/
   67. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: May 04, 2008 at 11:18 PM (#2769002)
Soriano continues to look awful in left. Maybe I'm just too demanding, but there's no way two runs should have scored on that Pujols double. I really dislike Theriot, too. I think that was the sixth time he's been thrown out versus like seven steals.
   68. Guts Posted: May 05, 2008 at 12:09 AM (#2769024)
Good game - Izzy didn't even allow a baserunner in the 9th, a clear sign Destiny hates the Cubs.
   69. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: May 05, 2008 at 12:27 AM (#2769025)
Sorry I bailed CFiJ, I headed out for my own to a friend's for the sake of my sanity.
