Hope getting Z back turns this team around. I'm also hoping I'll have enough going on today and maybe tomorrow that I can successfully avoid both games.

Beat the crap out of these nobodies.

I'm very curious to see what Carlos brings to bear tonight. Zambrano, that is. I'm sort of hoping not to find out what Marmol's bringing right about now.

Oh, and am I the only one not all that agitated about the idea of the Brewers getting Sabathia? I think the Cubs would likely counter by getting either Harden or Burnett, which would be fine as a late-season rental. Sheets/Sabathia would be quite a 1-2 punch in a short series, though.
   4. retro-shiite Posted: July 04, 2008 at 04:55 PM (#2843500)
I'm also curious to see what kind of reception Edmonds gets.
   5. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 05:25 PM (#2843506)
Burnett's gonna be a steal for some team.
   6. cardsfanboy Posted: July 04, 2008 at 07:02 PM (#2843604)
Serious question: How do Chicago fans now feel about Jim Edmonds?
   7. cardsfanboy Posted: July 04, 2008 at 07:03 PM (#2843605)
I'm also curious to see what kind of reception Edmonds gets.

I would imagine it's very positive, any boos would probably be sarcastic and more directed towards his uniform. I don't think there is any fans out there that hold a grudge against him.

nice play by Ramirez

Encouraging 1st for Z.
   17. cardsfanboy Posted: July 04, 2008 at 08:31 PM (#2843781)
biggest applause Jimmy has probably gotten in that uniform :)

Man, I ####### hate Paul Sullivan.
   19. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2843786)
Flashbacks of one of the best players to ever put on the Cubs uniform, yeah that'd be awful you douche. Get this clown out of the booth. And tell him to cut his dumbass hair.
   20. Eric J Posted: July 04, 2008 at 08:35 PM (#2843787)
I dunno, CFB... he might have drawn a cheer or two in this game:

I know, was just teasing a little. I'm extremely happy at ho well Jimmy has played for the Cubbies (even though it's the Cubbies)
   22. NTNgod Posted: July 04, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2843796)
A Molina with an infield hit?!?!?!?!
   23. cardsfanboy Posted: July 04, 2008 at 08:43 PM (#2843797)
no way are they going to get the speedy Yadier on that play.

#### YOU DO ME
   25. Craig K, Cardinals late-inning reliever Posted: July 04, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2843818)
I'm beginning to really not like you, Kosuke.
   26. NTNgod Posted: July 04, 2008 at 08:58 PM (#2843824)
Theriot has issues covering, doesn't he? He's had a number of those this season.
   27. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 09:11 PM (#2843840)
I like Geovany Soto.

He hits home runs for the Cubs.
   28. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 09:25 PM (#2843867)
Miles with worse range than Theriot I see.
   29. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 09:29 PM (#2843884)
Reed Johnson better not play everyday til Soriano gets back.
   30. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 09:30 PM (#2843896)
That looked terrible.
   31. Eric J Posted: July 04, 2008 at 09:34 PM (#2843907)
More importantly, Reed Johnson better not lead off every day until Soriano gets back...
   32. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 04, 2008 at 09:38 PM (#2843920)
I get a strong sense of dissatisfaction watching Johnson hit.
   33. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 04, 2008 at 09:42 PM (#2843927)
Lee's made some very encouraging contact tonight.
   34. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 09:46 PM (#2843938)
Aramis may be costing himself his all star spot.
   35. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 04, 2008 at 09:50 PM (#2843946)
That was magnificently stupid.
   36. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 09:50 PM (#2843947)
Not smart, Geo.
   37. cardsfanboy Posted: July 04, 2008 at 09:50 PM (#2843949)
Next time they should make sure the ball gets farther away.
   38. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 04, 2008 at 09:50 PM (#2843950)
I've gotta head out, gents. Hopefully the Cubs' pen will hold this one down.
   39. cardsfanboy Posted: July 04, 2008 at 09:53 PM (#2843955)
pen, when is the pen going to get involved? we can't beat Zambrano, but the pen is a different story.
   40. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: July 04, 2008 at 09:54 PM (#2843958)
That was heading foul - moron
   41. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: July 04, 2008 at 09:57 PM (#2843962)
2 awesome at bats there
   42. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 09:59 PM (#2843965)
That was not heading foul Phil, that was gonna hit the bag.
   43. cardsfanboy Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:00 PM (#2843967)
Cubs batters helping Looper out by swinging at the first pitch.
   44. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:02 PM (#2843969)
The Zambrano K here is just about guaranteed.
   45. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:06 PM (#2843972)
Those Molinas, they're not a fast family.

That was not heading foul Phil, that was gonna hit the bag.

Right after I posted it - I realised
   47. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:13 PM (#2843983)
Ya know the reason we signed TOFU was so we didn't have to watch SYTH flail against righties like this.
   48. NTNgod Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:15 PM (#2843988)
That was a hanger Fukudome swung through there..
   49. NTNgod Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:18 PM (#2843990)
Springer is getting lucky these hanging pitches aren't getting clobbered.
   50. NTNgod Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:26 PM (#2844001)
That looked like it was going to go far as soon as Howry released it.

Just bounced off the pole, though.
   51. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:26 PM (#2844002)
####.

Kasper so reads this site.

"And that's gonna happen" is pretty damn close to "And that happened."
   53. cardsfanboy Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:27 PM (#2844004)
the poll wanted to make sure Albert got to keep the ball.
   54. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:29 PM (#2844005)
If Lou's gonna give Marmol some time away from the 8th inning, he's gonna have to start realizing that Mike Wuertz is a very good pitcher, rather than try and give Howry the Marmol treatment of pitching every day.
   55. cardsfanboy Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:30 PM (#2844006)
I always love watching people using their flash on the cameras to photo baseball events....listen you morons, the flash on most cameras is rated at best 20 feet. You are just wasting your batteries.
   56. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:31 PM (#2844008)
Nicely done Neal. No need to screw around there.
   57. NTNgod Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:31 PM (#2844009)
Hard to say. Marmol WAS warming earlier in the inning.

Wood threw, then sat.
Cotts warmed up.
Marmol threw, then sat.
Wood then got back up again and threw again.
   58. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:34 PM (#2844011)
Probably auto flash.
   59. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:35 PM (#2844013)
Not a banner day for TOFU.

I was a little worried he'd suffer from the fact that the Cards might know how to pitch him.
   60. cardsfanboy Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:48 PM (#2844024)
Probably auto flash.

more likely people who don't know how to turn the flash off. I've sold digital cameras (which is what I'm assuming most have nowadays) and there isn't a model out there that you can't turn off the flash.

Was hoping that this game wasn't going to come down to Kerry Wood. The rest of the bullpen I have no problem with, but Kerry is actually good.
   61. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:48 PM (#2844025)
That was scary.
   62. NTNgod Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:50 PM (#2844027)
Glaus is pretty PO'd about that call. That WAS outside, but he was pretty mad.
   63. cardsfanboy Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:50 PM (#2844026)
ok, that was not a strike. Oh well.
   64. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:50 PM (#2844028)
Can't react like that on a borderline call when ball 2 shoulda been a strike.
   65. cardsfanboy Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:50 PM (#2844029)
jeezus, the ump ###### us on that one.
   66. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:50 PM (#2844030)
2 of the worst calls I have seen this season
   67. NTNgod Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:50 PM (#2844031)
Holy ####. That outside corner was HUGE that AB.
   68. cardsfanboy Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:51 PM (#2844032)
borderline my ass
   69. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:51 PM (#2844034)
So, ball 2 wasn't a strike CFB?
   70. Andere Richtingen Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:52 PM (#2844035)
I'm surprised Glaus wasn't tossed there. I've seen worse calls, but he had a right to be pissed there.
   71. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:52 PM (#2844037)
Phil, is that one of those posts where you realized you were wrong immediately after again?

Worst calls you've seen all season?
   72. cardsfanboy Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:53 PM (#2844038)
have to pinch run for molina
   73. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:53 PM (#2844039)
I didn't want to see Ken Phelps in this game.
   74. cardsfanboy Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:54 PM (#2844040)
So, ball 2 wasn't a strike CFB?

wasn't paying attention at that time so I don't know. I'm just going by the two horrible calls that make Denkinger call appear competent.
   75. NTNgod Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:55 PM (#2844041)
Strikes two and three to Glaus were several inches off the plate, and Soto had a long way to bring them back. They weren't borderline calls; they were in Eric Gregg/Livan Hernandez territory.
   76. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:55 PM (#2844042)
I'm just going by the two horrible calls that make Denkinger call appear competent.

Holy #### that's priceless.
   77. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:55 PM (#2844044)
Phil, is that one of those posts where you realized you were wrong immediately after again?

I'm posting without thinking - they were clearly outside - there has been much worse this season - much worse.

The jeter double today for starters in the 9th.
   78. SouthSideRyan(roots for dreck) Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:56 PM (#2844045)
The Cubs will return to Chicago in 1st place.
   79. Andere Richtingen Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:56 PM (#2844046)
They were off the plate, but they weren't that bad.
   80. Elevate Phil Coorey Later Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:58 PM (#2844047)
They were off the plate, but they weren't that bad.

They were bad considering his pretty good zone all night. Sort of like Weller going from the Jam to the freaking Style Council - BAD!
   81. cardsfanboy Posted: July 04, 2008 at 10:59 PM (#2844049)
The Cubs will return to Chicago in 1st place.

They left Chicago in first place.

They were off the plate, but they weren't that bad.

the third strike wasn't that bad, and I could live with it, if he had been calling them all game long there, but he hadn't. The second strike was just horrible call, nobody with a even 20/400 vision could have thought that was a strike.
   82. Bunny Vincennes Posted: July 05, 2008 at 04:49 AM (#2844140)
I know I'm late to the chatter, but the second strike hadn't been called all night. I thought that a handful of pitches on both sides should have been called a little more out there, but it was even for both sides. How Wood the first one called, I don't know, but I wonder how much the reaction resulted in the called third strike (which was much closer).

Oddly inconsistent strike zone in the 9th. Still, "W".
