Since the Cubs lost with Z and Harden on the mound over the past few days, I fully expect Marquis to be lights-out. (I kid, of course, but he's actually been good lately.)

Now, if the 2006 Cub offense could kindly go back to its forefather in Cincinnati, I'd appreciate it.
   2. Stevens Posted: July 22, 2008 at 12:47 PM (#2867972)
I only had Pat and Ron last night, but it sounded like the Cubs were smacking the ball around. Hopefully they just find some holes today.
   3. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 22, 2008 at 12:50 PM (#2867979)
Derrek Lee hasn't homered since June 20. He has five homers since May 11. I don't think any of his consider him a prolific power guy, but considering his start, it looked like he was on his way to finding a balance between 2005 and 2007, power-wise.

I work early tomorrow, so I'm going to wipe my hands clean of tonight's festivities. God speed to those of you who are going to subject yourself to this offense for at least nine innings.
   4. retro-shiite Posted: July 22, 2008 at 01:41 PM (#2868038)
I'll be in a blues jam through most of it, and will resist the urge to check in constantly on GameDay.
   5. Cabbage Posted: July 22, 2008 at 02:25 PM (#2868088)
The game will keep me sane while I deal with wedding preparations and packing up my room.
   6. retro-shiite Posted: July 22, 2008 at 02:45 PM (#2868107)
The end of my marriage allowed me to focus on more sanity-promoting activities, like watching the Cubs.
   7. Stevens Posted: July 22, 2008 at 03:06 PM (#2868132)
Wow, retro. If your marriage had less sanity than Cubs watching, then bully for you on its end! No man should have to suffer two crazy lovers.

If your marriage had less sanity than Cubs watching, then bully for you on its end!

Don't I know it.

That's gold, Cabbage.

Marriage: Adulthood's Productive Out

Is that engraved on your wedding bands?
   12. Dan Posted: July 22, 2008 at 05:45 PM (#2868282)
Dbacks traded Bonifacio for Jon Rauch.
   13. retro-shiite Posted: July 22, 2008 at 06:45 PM (#2868355)
Dbacks traded Bonifacio for Jon Rauch.

Wait, I thought they wouldn't trade him for Holliday or Sabathia or somebody.
   14. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: July 22, 2008 at 07:33 PM (#2868423)
The Cubs need to score a bunch of fecking runs tonight, so that my two goals for their season -- "Rich Harden: World Series MVP" and "Chadwick: Rotation Fixture" -- are not in opposition.
   15. SteveM. Posted: July 22, 2008 at 08:16 PM (#2868503)
Marriage is good preparation for being a Cubs fan. Lots of highs and lows with ultimately disappointment in the end.
   16. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 22, 2008 at 08:53 PM (#2868579)
I long ago linked being a Cubs fan to being in a bad relationship. The main difference, obviously, is that not nearly as many people remain in the latter as they do in the former.
   17. retro-shiite Posted: July 22, 2008 at 08:57 PM (#2868586)
Yeah, I wonder why that is? I mean, it's not like the Cubs would take half if I stopped watching 'em.
   18. SteveM. Posted: July 22, 2008 at 09:05 PM (#2868594)
Well also you don't have to keep paying the Cubs long after your love with them ended.
   19. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 22, 2008 at 09:27 PM (#2868647)
Looks like I don't have to work in the morning after all, so it looks like I'll be with you guys tonight against better judgment. I wasn't paying much attention, but why did the telecast come on WGN at 9?
   20. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 22, 2008 at 09:44 PM (#2868692)
I thought the DBacks were a shoddy defensive team? What's with all the nifty defensive gems?

Derrek Lee continues to do nothing to endear me to him.
   21. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 22, 2008 at 09:44 PM (#2868695)
Or rather, himself to me.
   22. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 22, 2008 at 09:54 PM (#2868745)
This ump is awful. Even the DBacks announcers are joking about a thigh-high ball across the plate being a strike.
   23. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: July 22, 2008 at 09:58 PM (#2868767)
Holy crap! A leadoff walk!
   24. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 22, 2008 at 10:08 PM (#2868830)
And two squandered walks. Guess it's good that they're walking, but this offense is still impotent.
   25. SteveM. Posted: July 22, 2008 at 10:20 PM (#2868885)
The Riot showing some power!
   26. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: July 22, 2008 at 10:25 PM (#2868906)
Maybe no big deal, but couldn't Theriot have tagged up there and advanced? I mean, a free base is a free base.
   27. SteveM. Posted: July 22, 2008 at 10:26 PM (#2868910)
Damn it- I thought Aramis got all of that.
   28. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 22, 2008 at 10:26 PM (#2868912)
GOD DAMN SON OF A ############# #####

This team is never scoring again.
   29. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 22, 2008 at 10:29 PM (#2868920)
I really thought Aramis got all of that. I mean, I thought it was a no doubter and the bat slam was more of a "finally" and not a "god damn it, just missed it."
   30. NTNgod Posted: July 22, 2008 at 10:45 PM (#2868970)
Is Brenly seriously blaming the Cubs' hitting woes since the ASB on the fact they had so many All-Stars, and they're tired?
   31. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: July 22, 2008 at 10:47 PM (#2868971)
What the hell has gotten into Font-eyes. This is like at the level of his absurd month last year.
   32. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 22, 2008 at 10:50 PM (#2868974)
Sutton and Grace are rightfully blasting Petit for throwing a meatball to Fontenot with two outs, the pitcher on deck and a base open. Whatever, I'll take it. With the Brewers winning, I may have a heart attack with the division lead sliced to a game.
   33. SteveM. Posted: July 22, 2008 at 10:51 PM (#2868976)
Fontenot is trying to prove he belongs in the majors. Until Soriano gets back, i probably would not only keep playing hi, but put up higher in the lineup.
   34. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: July 22, 2008 at 10:54 PM (#2868984)
Is Brenly seriously blaming the Cubs' hitting woes since the ASB on the fact they had so many All-Stars, and they're tired?

I don't know. They were dragging their feet pretty badly before the ASB.
   35. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 22, 2008 at 10:58 PM (#2868989)
God damn it.
   36. NTNgod Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:09 PM (#2869005)
#21. Watch out Jim Rice?
   37. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:09 PM (#2869006)
Something to consider about teams that walk is that when they slump it tends to linger.

I have seen that studied several times and I am pretty sure I recall hearing Beane talk about it as a point of moving in a bit of a different direction offensively.
   38. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:10 PM (#2869009)
Wow a doubleplay from Lee. He never does that. Seriously, how do you do that with a 2-0 count? I'm about fed up with him.
   39. SteveM. Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:16 PM (#2869025)
With the offense in a slump, I really wish Lou would give the Hoff a start in left.
   40. Dan Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:17 PM (#2869027)
Didn't Hoffpauir get optioned to Iowa?
   41. NTNgod Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:19 PM (#2869033)
No, he was called back up the other day.
   42. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:24 PM (#2869045)
These guys are just awful right now. Lee, Ramirez, and Soto are especially sickening to watch.
   43. NTNgod Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:28 PM (#2869049)
If the Cubs offense scuffles for the rest of the game, I think there's a 100% chance Soriano gets activated a day earlier than planned.
   44. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:33 PM (#2869058)
Soto has started 85 games at catcher. That's Kendall/Russell Martin territory. Not that Soto isn't good. Just that it IS his first season at the most grueling position on the diamond.
   45. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:38 PM (#2869063)
Soto's previous high was last season with 128 games.
   46. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:39 PM (#2869066)
Nevermind, Harv was talking about starts only.
   47. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:41 PM (#2869070)
Where are the AZ fans?
   48. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:41 PM (#2869071)
Derrek would like credit for that since it woulda been a DP if there were less than 2 outs.
   49. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:41 PM (#2869072)
Derrek Lee is one of the last guys I want to see with runners in scoring position right now. Just worthless.
   50. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:43 PM (#2869076)
I'm encouraged by the walks and Fukudome getting some hits, so I don't expect this drought to keep chugging along. That said, I'm having some serious flashbacks to the stretch two years ago where the team got shut out like three or four times in a week and only scored a run in another game. Michaels Barrett was our second best hitter at the time, so there's really no excuse for this team to be doing anything that reminds me of that squad like they are.
   51. NTNgod Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:45 PM (#2869080)
The regulars usually chat there during the games
   52. NTNgod Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:46 PM (#2869082)
Err, that's in response to:
Where are the AZ fans?
   53. retro-shiite Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:47 PM (#2869087)
OK, I'm annoyed with this bunch. The amateur recording session was better than this. Of course, we had the game on with the sound off, so we could be annoyed with the Cubs while pickin' and grinnin'.
   54. retro-shiite Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:53 PM (#2869097)
Well, that's feckin' annoying. I think it's time for Lou to have a meltdown.
   55. retro-shiite Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:54 PM (#2869098)
These guys are really feckin' awful right now.
   56. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:56 PM (#2869101)
I'm going on a brief hiatus after this game. This team is stressing me out way more than anything I have zero control over should. Hopefully they get their heads out of their collective ass soon, because they're going to be looking up at Milwaukee very soon. ####.
   57. NTNgod Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:57 PM (#2869105)
Marshall's fun inning continues.
   58. retro-shiite Posted: July 22, 2008 at 11:59 PM (#2869109)
Well, I'm taking a hiatus from the Marlins series (in person, at least), 'cause I'll be serving as my dog's full-time nursemaid for a week after his Thursday surgery. Probably a good thing, though at least it's supposed to be nice out.
   59. NTNgod Posted: July 23, 2008 at 12:02 AM (#2869113)
Ramirez made a very nice diving stab to prevent anymore damage.
   60. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 23, 2008 at 12:02 AM (#2869114)
This flaccid offense is only more annoying when you consider how well the starters have pitched during this snap.
   61. NTNgod Posted: July 23, 2008 at 12:08 AM (#2869121)
Maybe Lee should be looking over his shoulder at Ward. Actually, it wouldn't have been surprising to see Ward get a start at 1B tomorrow even before that HR.
   62. NTNgod Posted: July 23, 2008 at 12:22 AM (#2869132)
I can see Hoff kicking one, but now Derrek Lee follows his example?
   63. BeanoCook Posted: July 23, 2008 at 12:23 AM (#2869133)
Is there 1 DB fan here? Over/Under innings pitched by B Lyon before J Rauch is D-Backs closer?
   64. Dan Posted: July 23, 2008 at 12:24 AM (#2869135)
Lyon had an ERA under 3 before the two games against the Dodgers, it's not as if he's sucked this year.
   65. NTNgod Posted: July 23, 2008 at 12:28 AM (#2869139)
Playing the infield in with an 8-2 score?

Ouch, Hudson's not getting up.
   66. BeanoCook Posted: July 23, 2008 at 12:28 AM (#2869141)
True about Lyon, but even the pumpkin was Cinderella before it became the pumpkin.
   67. BeanoCook Posted: July 23, 2008 at 12:29 AM (#2869143)
O Hudson may be out. At least the D Backs have a good 2nd baseman waiting in the wings.
   68. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 23, 2008 at 12:29 AM (#2869144)
Why is Hart on this roster? He's been terrible every time I've watched him pitch this year.
   69. Dan Posted: July 23, 2008 at 12:31 AM (#2869145)
I like Okajima here vs. IbaƱez.
   70. Dan Posted: July 23, 2008 at 12:31 AM (#2869146)
Oops, wrong chatter.
   71. Esoteric roots for the two worst teams in baseball Posted: July 23, 2008 at 12:31 AM (#2869148)
No way on earth that Hudson's ankle isn't broken. He simply couldn't walk off the field under his own power. A shame.
   72. BeanoCook Posted: July 23, 2008 at 12:32 AM (#2869149)
Dan, you are watching the Cubs demise.
   73. BeanoCook Posted: July 23, 2008 at 12:33 AM (#2869153)
Hudson is one of my fav players. I hope he is just bruised. Not to mention the fact, I hope the NL West winner has a winning record. At least for the sake of product credibility.
   74. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: July 23, 2008 at 12:37 AM (#2869159)
Well now that Beano's called it, Cubs are a lock.

CUBS ARE CHOKING AWAY THE DIVISION!!! (Beano '07)

LOL CUBS PROSPECTS (Beano 3 days before Harden trade)

You're an embarrasment, man.
   75. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: July 23, 2008 at 12:42 AM (#2869161)
I doubt it's a coincidence that his presence in Cubs chatters has become more frequent as the team's struggles have swelled. There's nothing wrong with sitting in/contributing to a chatter that involves a rival team. But show some class. You don't see NTN applying his usual excited Brewers chatter posts when he contributes here. You'd be hard pressed to know that Harvey is even a Brewers fan when seeing his posts in Cubs chatters.
   76. BeanoCook Posted: July 23, 2008 at 01:01 AM (#2869184)
Relax, I'm just helping our friend Dan out.
