Good. About time that two-out attempted steal of third bit 'em in the ass.
   102. retro-shiite Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:27 PM (#2870719)
Oh, and my fearless prediction is that ARam and Geo both bust out of it this inning.
   103. SteveM. Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:28 PM (#2870720)
No TV tonight Retro?
   104. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:28 PM (#2870722)
It wasn't quite the same as Michael Barrett trying to steal third with two out when he was the go-ahead run, but it was pretty bad.
   105. SteveM. Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:28 PM (#2870724)
Maybe that infield hit will ignite Aramis.
   106. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:29 PM (#2870726)
I'll chalk that up to your prediction, retro.
   107. retro-shiite Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:29 PM (#2870727)
Reached on an error--does that count?
   108. retro-shiite Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:30 PM (#2870728)
I don't get cable, Steve. It's either WGN, GameDay, or in-person for me.
   109. retro-shiite Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:31 PM (#2870729)
I don't have the prognosticatory brilliance of BeanoCook, but I do my best.
   110. SteveM. Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:32 PM (#2870731)
Well that sucks. I could not have survived Mississippi without satellite.
   111. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:32 PM (#2870733)
The worst part about that Barrett steal was that he was out by about 5 feet.
   112. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:33 PM (#2870735)
Yeah, but it's a bit easier in Chicago.

I'm in the hinterlands, and it's all mlb.tv for me.
   113. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:33 PM (#2870736)
Oh we're sorry guys, here have one back.
   114. SteveM. Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:33 PM (#2870737)
Aramis' turn to be braindead with that pickoff.
   115. retro-shiite Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:34 PM (#2870738)
The hell's Aramis doing?
   116. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:35 PM (#2870739)
I've mentioned it a hundred times here, but Barrett's attempted steal in May '07 was the worst baserunning I have ever seen.
   117. retro-shiite Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:35 PM (#2870743)
Well that sucks. I could not have survived Mississippi without satellite.

Delete those last 2 words, and you could apply that to me.

I don't watch a lot of television. It sucks not being able to watch much baseball on TV, but it's offset by my going to about 50 games a year.
   118. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:35 PM (#2870745)
It would be nice to see DeRosa get hot again. Everyone but the Cajun Bros are cold as witch's ###.
   119. retro-shiite Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:37 PM (#2870746)
Witch's d0ucHeb@gs?
   120. SteveM. Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:38 PM (#2870747)
I think a win here, no matter how ugly, will help. Getting back to Wrigley will help even more,
   121. retro-shiite Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:38 PM (#2870748)
Barrett is the owner of all sorts of superlatives, in terms of sheer boneheadedness on a baseball field.
   122. retro-shiite Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:39 PM (#2870749)
I'm skipping the Marlins series to care for my dog, but I'll be following along.
   123. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:40 PM (#2870750)
Does your dog have an account?
   124. SteveM. Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:40 PM (#2870751)
I watch way too much TV, but I have mastered multitasking. While watching this and chatting, I have managed to finish an entire week's worth of assignments in my online class to learn how to teach online classes.
   125. retro-shiite Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:41 PM (#2870752)
My dog does not have an account. As he's nearly blind, it'd be sort of lost on him. Once he gets his cataract removed, though, who knows--perhaps he'll get demanding.
   126. retro-shiite Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:42 PM (#2870753)
Where in MS do you live, anyway?
   127. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:43 PM (#2870755)
So most gamedays, you don't care for your dog?
   128. retro-shiite Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:44 PM (#2870756)
Most gamedays, my dog isn't coming off cataract surgery and requiring an elaborate regimen of meds.
   129. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:44 PM (#2870759)
So most gamedays, you don't care for your dog?

These recent games, they have not been very good with the dogs of Cubs fans.

Columbus. I am currently teaching at Mississippi University for Women-which despite its name has admitted men since the 80s. We move slowly down here.
   131. retro-shiite Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:45 PM (#2870761)
I imagine that's it for Lilly. That start could be described as "gutty."
   132. retro-shiite Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:46 PM (#2870763)
I suppose if one has to be in Mississippi, being at a "University for Women" is about the best that could be hoped for.
   133. retro-shiite Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:47 PM (#2870764)
So you're on the other side of the state from the MS Delta region. You ever get over to those parts? I need to make a blues pilgrimage one of these times.
   134. Harveys Wallbangers Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:48 PM (#2870765)
Boy, Ted toughed one out tonight. Twasn't pretty. But kept them at bay.....

Actually, Ole Miss in Oxford has some of the hottest coeds on the planet. No one ever complains about a road game there.
   136. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:49 PM (#2870767)
Columbus is the birthplace of Tennessee Williams, right? Not a bad claim for fame.
   137. retro-shiite Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:50 PM (#2870768)
How's Soriano look, to those of you watching?
   138. retro-shiite Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:51 PM (#2870769)
Hm. Perhaps I should arrange a trip to Oxford, under the pretext of a visit to Faulkner's home. Well, I could still visit Faulkner's home, pretext or not.

When I was at Georgia, I was in the lab on a Saturday and asked a Brazilian postdoc who they were playing that day. He said, "Olé Miss".
   140. SteveM. Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:51 PM (#2870771)
Yes it is. And they got a Chili's this year!
   141. SouthSideRyan(CASEY'S GONE!!) Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:52 PM (#2870772)
Not bad Soriano, but not ridiculously good Soriano either. He's in one of those weird funks where he doesn't look terrible or out of this world good.

   143. retro-shiite Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:53 PM (#2870774)
"Olé Miss".

That's like a Spanish postdoc I knew who sent somebody a Thanksgiving card (apparently under the impression that people do this), with the salutation "Happy San Guivin."
   144. SteveM. Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:53 PM (#2870775)
The one good thing about Soriano is that his legs look finally 100%.

So what's the catch?
   146. retro-shiite Posted: July 23, 2008 at 11:54 PM (#2870778)

Fearless prediction: ARam and Geo will bust out of it next inning.

Jesus. Trent Lott.

That's why you move to Southern Louisiana. It's the best of both worlds.

A few years ago Lott was the speaker at graduation and I objected to the press release sent out that contained only positive material. I was informed that faculty comments were not welcomed.

That carried a lot farther than it looked off the bat.

Lee going the other way. Good to see, even if it's an out.

Coworker of mine told me his 12-year-old daughter says "here comes Mr. Double Play" when Lee comes to bat...

I don't know what their long-term plan with this is. Some say that Petit will start until Scherzer comes back. Some say Owings will go back to starting the next time through the rotation (which given tomorrow's offday doesn't preclude his use tonight).

I just hope that it doesn't mean any more starts for Yusmeiro Petit.

You know, Four Roses Single Barrel is a damn tasty bourbon.

   178. Dan Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:13 AM (#2870821)
Why the hell did he leave Owings in so long?
   179. retro-shiite Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:13 AM (#2870824)

   182. retro-shiite Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:15 AM (#2870827)
Elijah's just fine as a mixer or straight, comparable to Maker's.

Four Roses is not to be mixed. Or to be missed.

I see what you're saying dahlian but the Cubs have a 110 OPS+, the D-Backs have a 92. It's not really comparable.
   191. retro-shiite Posted: July 24, 2008 at 12:20 AM (#2870839)
