I noticed this on Friday and it's happening again today. what in the world makes the Reds' PBP announcer consistently refer to Floyd as 'Clifford'? Nobody else does including Cliff himself. Does this guy think he's smarter than everyone else or what? It doesn't work.

He wants the Reds to pick him up, so they can refer to him as "Clifford, the Big Red Dawg."

I'm even more surprised to hear those announcers say that Mackannin is a 'long shot' to be back next year. I think he has done a pretty decent job since he took over.

I've got the Reds radio broadcasters (Brenneman and Jeff Brantley) who say Carlos didn't throw more than a couple of pitches over 90MPH.... I wasn't paying attention to the gun, but I don't buy that for a minute, can anyone confirm or deny

Jason Marquis is no better than Jason Marquis. And that is not very good.

#4 -

That's actually pretty accurate. It looked like Z was pitching within himself in order to throw strikes. On the odd occasion when he did have to crank it up, Carlos had all the velocity you could wish for.

Seeing Marquis today makes me very, very glad that this division didn't go to a play-off.

Watching him recently makes me think the Cubs should just go with a three-man rotation and pray no one's arm flies into the stands. Honestly, their best bet may be to go with Z, Lilly, Hill, and then rely on guys like Marmol, Wood, Wuertz, Howry, etc. Marquis the last few outings is just a way to get far behind or let a team back into a game. When you're facing quality pitching, you can't have your guy allowing that.

There is no way he pitches Game three is there????
   11. Neil M Posted: September 30, 2007 at 02:21 PM (#2551456)
I read somewhere that Hill pitches Game 3. I'm hoping for a sweep. Marquis scares me more than Dempster does right now.

In all likelihood Ryan Dempster will enter the post-season with the worst ERA of any pitcher on the Cubs roster.

Anyone know his ERA in save situations? For his terrible numbers, he seems like he's reliable in such a role, but useless elsewhere.

I'm sure his ERA is lower, Walks, but I don't buy the distinction. He just doesn't have it now and if you look back he frequently doesn't. His control has always been suspect and for the last few weeks he has struggled mightily.

If this were May or June, Demps would be pitching mop-up until he got his act together. Now, it's probably too late to experiment but I'd rather see Marmol or Wood when the game is on the line.
