Today is a great day, because it's October and the Cubs are playing baseball.

Might as well get in some streaking before lunch, just in case my nudity actually has something to do with the Cubs luck.

Wise move.

October baseball... Carlos Zambrano vs. Brandon Webb...

awesome

And there'll be post lunch streaking, and commute home streaking, pre and post dinner streaking, national anthem streaking, etc.

Basically, at any given moment, I'm definitely more likely to be naked than clothed.

I've got a legal writing paper due tomorrow afternoon. I need to finish by 9pm. My research is mostly done, and I'm just about through an outline. I hope I can crank out ~3200 words +editing+ bluebook nonsense by 9pm.

In other words, I'm leaving the streaking to Moses.

If you're not going to be streaking then it behooves you to compose your paper in your birthday suit at the law school.

Too bad. For a moment I thought we had a far more interesting alternative to Schroedinger's Cat. (I might still release the gas on the off-chance).

Happy camper time -

Everything I read persuaded me that my mlb.tv subscription was only good for the regular season. To see post season action I would have to cough up another $25 aas an international subscriber. Twice I tried to pay up and twice I was rejected. Now I'm watching the Rox vs. the Phils, no extra expense incurred. I'm happy. Off for a few hours' beauty sleep prior to the real deal (3 a.m. my time).

I'll be a wreck tomorrow, but I know I won't be able to sleep while the game is still going.

I'm sort of surprised by the prevailing thought that the Cubs are going to take this series given their inexplicable failures historically in Arizona. That said, I'll play Mr. Optimism and say the Cubs in four. If they win tonight, it'll take some damn fine choking not to win the series.

I'm sure everybody knows this already but Colorado beat the Phillies with Cole Hamels on the mound. I can't decide which of the two teams is better.

Is the Diamondbacks' lineup the worst playoff lineup ever? Augie Ojeda? Jeff Salazar? Tony Clark?

I mean, seriously.

Well, they won't lose, so that's something.

Eighteen posts 45 minutes before first pitch? I hope you all are just saving them for the game.

Lineups:

Soriano
Jones
Lee
Ramirez
Floyd
DeRosa
Soto
Theriot
Zambrano

Young
Drew
Byrnes
Clark
Reynolds
Salazar
Snyder
Ojeda
Webb

OK, my fearless predictions were pretty much right on last Friday, so much so that I'm nervous making one now, but here goes nothing:

Cubs 3, D'backs 2.

Mornin', Neil. How'd you sleep?
   20. Andere HUSSEIN Richtingen, Socialist Posted: October 03, 2007 at 09:29 PM (#2558984)
I'm taking this one in on radio. I thought about going to a sports bar with wifi but my living room is so much more comfortable. Hell, it's still 70 degrees outside, maybe I should do the back patio.
   21. Lassus Posted: October 03, 2007 at 09:31 PM (#2558987)
Hey, are we SURE the Mets aren't playing? Ron Darling is one of the announcers.

I KNEW that was all a bad dream.

   24. Gamingboy Posted: October 03, 2007 at 09:35 PM (#2559000)
The Mets aren't playing Lassus. And It's my fault. Y'see, I was being a greedy bastard, and during a game in Baltimore and a Foul ball was coming right at me (I was going to give it to a kid), but a guy in a Mets hat basically pushed me to the ground and grabbed the ball. And I was going to give it a kid too! So I cursed the Mets right there. In hindsight, perhaps not the best thing, and I'd like to take it back, but you know how long Baseball curses last....

Yo, Sweet. Hardly slept at all. Probably turned in a little too early.

I tuned into Channel 5, which is providing play-off coverage here. They are in the 2nd inning of a tape-delay from Fenway. ####### pathetic. Not even live.

Dick Stockton. Ugh. I don't care who wins this series, I like both teams, but it's pretty evenly matched and interesting.

Soriano on the first pitch trying to pull Webb...
   36. Sweet Posted: October 03, 2007 at 10:08 PM (#2559038)
Eh.

Basically, you shouldn't swing at anything that looks like a strike coming out of Brandon Webb's hand. 90% of them end up beneath the zone. It must be so hard to lay off.
   37. Gold Star for Robothal Posted: October 03, 2007 at 10:08 PM (#2559039)
Oh, the Cubs are gonna win. That D-Backs lineup is so weak.
   38. Sweet Posted: October 03, 2007 at 10:11 PM (#2559043)
Wicked pitch there. It looked like it moved about six different ways.
   39. JJ1986 Posted: October 03, 2007 at 10:12 PM (#2559044)
Webb's stuff is moving well so far. Really well.

Carlos is throwing low 90's so far...
   43. Sweet Posted: October 03, 2007 at 10:17 PM (#2559049)
I like the way Zambrano's throwing early. Pounding the zone.
   44. Sweet Posted: October 03, 2007 at 10:18 PM (#2559050)
I didn't like that first pitch to Byrnes. That leg-kick follow through is no good.

He did it again on the second pitch -- falling away to first.
   45. H_Vaughn08 Posted: October 03, 2007 at 10:19 PM (#2559051)
Well, that was an effective out pitch.
   46. Pops Freshenmeyer Posted: October 03, 2007 at 10:20 PM (#2559053)
Carlos is going to be in trouble if he keeps working this high in the zone.
   47. Sweet Posted: October 03, 2007 at 10:21 PM (#2559054)
"Letter high" on that pitch? Whoa, is this Dick Stockton or Dick Endberg?
   48. H_Vaughn08 Posted: October 03, 2007 at 10:22 PM (#2559055)
It's going to be the usual high pitch count Z outing. Who's first outta the pen tonight?
   49. Sweet Posted: October 03, 2007 at 10:22 PM (#2559056)
Whew. Got through the first inning unscathed and on only 16 pitches. That's a good start for Z.

Piniella said he was going to try to limit Z to 100-105 pitches if possible. That'd get him to what - the 6th inning? No idea what order Lou'd use his relievers - probably depends on the score.
   51. Neil M Posted: October 03, 2007 at 10:24 PM (#2559060)

28 pitches for Carlos & 24 for Webb through 2

BB-Ref says 61% strikes this year, 60-62% strikes in general the last few years. He's pretty wild for an ace.

I have a feeling Z is going to be pissed if he doesn't score here. That could be bad.
   97. Lassus Posted: October 03, 2007 at 10:43 PM (#2559118)
89 - He talked in the pre-game that Zambrano can hit and if he's fallen asleep on, it could be the difference against a tough Brandon Webb. Sadly, Sori may have ruined that.
   98. Sweet Posted: October 03, 2007 at 10:44 PM (#2559120)
