Fat, drunk, and not knowing "Animal House" quotes is no way to go through life, son.

1. I'm not fat anymore.

2. "Animal House" sucked.

in the first game of THAT series?

Hey, a run!
   504. The New Gloucester Whaler Posted: October 05, 2008 at 12:47 AM (#2968818)
Hey! That's a run! Way to go Ward!

Holy crap, a run.

. . . Stripes? Right?

That's not the fact Jack.
   508. Walks Clog Up the Bases Posted: October 05, 2008 at 12:48 AM (#2968822)
Of course. It's bizarro series, where Daryl Ward is among the team leaders in RBI.

2. "Animal House" sucked.

Them's fightin' words in these parts

If we come back to win, I will strip and run naked through my apartment complex save for my Cubs hat.

You preferred Stripes?

We're 1 hit and 1 XBH away from tying this game. (I'm not saying HR 'cause Dodger Stadium doesn't give up HR's at night.) I'm just saying.
   513. Dan Posted: October 05, 2008 at 12:49 AM (#2968827)
Wait, so Broxton for 4 outs or is Torre going to use Saito for the 9th?

Atone your shitty first-inning throw, DeRo.

Anybody who's driven in a run this series is among the team leaders.

The major obstacle to moving Fukudome (assuming the Cubs even have any intrest in doing so) is the backloaded nature of his contract. I believe he only made $7mil this year.
   518. Dan Posted: October 05, 2008 at 12:51 AM (#2968832)
Hanging slider and you take?
   519. The Milton Bradley Effect (Voxter) Posted: October 05, 2008 at 12:51 AM (#2968833)
You preferred Stripes?

Easily. I didn't say this earlier, but I preferred Stripes to Caddyshack, too.

Now I'll shut up while they're playing baseball.
   520. The New Gloucester Whaler Posted: October 05, 2008 at 12:51 AM (#2968834)

Voxter, you're insane. I liked Stripes too, but it was half a movie at best. Animal House is an all-time classic.

They are aware they go home and don't get to play in a meaningful game again until April if they lose tonight, right?

This might not be the time to bring this up, but this team have a team leader? I don't buy into the idea as much as some do, but it seems like every team should have a designated guy to rally the troops when said troops are playing, to borrow a technical term, like shitheads.

Whaler:

Took a bit getting home. And I took a nap mid-afternoon (no wisecracks needed) so I am still going.

Should have been 8-1. And Torres has nothing left. Sveum is lookong to pull a Yost if he keeps going to that well.

Go Cubs!

The person I really for is Ronnie. This has got to be killing him.

It is. I can tell from the WGN audio feed. There are no commercials in the in-between breaks over that feed, so you can hear all the overloud Dodger Stadium canned music he grouses about on the broadcasts. That adds insult to his injury.
   557. Fred Garvin, Male Prostitute Posted: October 05, 2008 at 12:59 AM (#2968872)
Not if you like your movies funny.

When did you see the movie? How much do you remember?

I'm guessing that if you've seen it at all, it was a long time ago and you don't remember much about it. The fact that you attribute the "Germans bomb Pearl Harbor" to Stripes (which you liked) is evidence of this.
   558. frannyzoo Posted: October 05, 2008 at 01:00 AM (#2968873)
Just came back from watching "In the Valley of Elah". Good to see that movie wasn't nearly as depressing as this thread.

Meanwhile, what are the chances that both: 1. anyone could not like "Animal House"; 2. that such a person would post at BTF. That's gotta be beyond Powerball chance, asteroid hitting on Earth on Tuesday kinda circumstances.
   559. The Milton Bradley Effect (Voxter) Posted: October 05, 2008 at 01:00 AM (#2968874)
What's Zooey been in besides "Elf"?

Almost Famous, Winter Passing, All the Real Girls, a few episodes of Weeds, The Happening (ugh), Hitch-Hiker's Guide . . . a lot of stuff, much of it not very good. But she's good, and she's totally hot. Especially when her hair is black.
   560. SteveM. Posted: October 05, 2008 at 01:00 AM (#2968875)

Heavy concur.

She was also in "Almost Famous", "Big Trouble", and "All The Real Girls".

Not that I, you know, like her, or anything.
   563. SteveM. Posted: October 05, 2008 at 01:01 AM (#2968878)
She was awesome in Almost Famous. Come to think of it, the whole damn cast was good in it.

I'm guessing that if you've seen it at all, it was a long time ago and you don't remember much about it.

I was nineteen, and I was stoned. So it's been a while. But I was like the prime demographic, man, and it still didn't do it for me.
   565. retro-shiite Posted: October 05, 2008 at 01:02 AM (#2968880)
Hm...saw Almost Famous, but don't remember her in it. So all I remember is "Elf," where she's blonde. She's cute.

To be fair, I thought it was part of the "We're 10-0-1" monologue that Bill Murray delivers. I didn't actually remember it, except generally, as a floating piece of pop culture.

Voxter- she was in Weeds? With Mary-Louise Parker? Both of them? Together? Guh.

Yeah, I know. But only for a couple-three peisodes.

I know it's disappointing. But we can't say the season wasn't fun. Eventually the memory of the end will fade, and I'll remember all the good times of the season. Just like '07, '03, '01, '98, '95, and '89,

   593. The New Gloucester Whaler Posted: October 05, 2008 at 01:12 AM (#2968912)
And this just feels empty. I'm not crushed, I'm not mad. I really thought this team was put together in a way that it would be very unlikely to have this sort of series. And yet, here it is. Again.

Empty.

Sori K's on a pitch in the dirt to end the season. Well, ain't that a B.

In the end, I had split loyalties in this series. My old man's a Dodgers fan, but I also have a friend with a very sickly and elderly father who's a Cubs fan. It would have been nice to have got at least a little more ball out of them.

They'll be back. For what it's worth. It's better than being the Pirates.

"I'm pissed now. But I'm going to be even MORE pissed in a week or so after the Phillies destroy this ######## Dodger team."

(Sub in "Rockies" and "D-Backs" from last season)
