Bless you Curtis Granderson. At least the Tigers got one. Now they'll get shut down for three straight just like the Twinkies.
   2. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 11:35 AM (#1645651)
While his home run was not of the same variety, Granderson bears resemblance to 2004 Cub killer Victor Diaz. Granderson was a huge Sox fan from Lynwood, TF South H.S and the only major leaguer to play at UIC. Diaz was a huge Cubs fan from Clemente H.S.

I'd make a Granderson for Rowand trade right now, no questions asked. I don't think the Tigers would accept.
   3. Buddha Posted: September 27, 2005 at 12:01 PM (#1645712)
I would hope they wouldn't accept.

How about Rowand for Dmitri Young?
   4. 1k5v3L Posted: September 27, 2005 at 12:05 PM (#1645720)
Dmitri Young is still alive?
   5. Buddha Posted: September 27, 2005 at 12:40 PM (#1645827)
Yeah. He refused to pinch hit the other night because he's "hurt."

Of course, he was playing through the same injuries when he needed his 500 PA's to get his option guaranteed for next year. Now all of a sudden he's too hurt to pinch hit with the bases loaded...

And then he has the nerve to come out and say he "had his other reasons" for playing through pain earlier in the year...

Screw you Meat Hook.

You've got the wrong Chicago baseball team's fans, McNally.

Read both papers today and no mention of why they didn't hit for Pierzynski in the 8th last night. Ozzie is a dick.
   8. VG Posted: September 27, 2005 at 02:04 PM (#1646051)
It isn't much, but this was in Mark Gonzales's game summary in the Tribune:

With runners at second and third with one out in the eighth, Pierzynski, a .226 hitter against left-handers, struck out against left-hander Jamie Walker.
   9. Urban Faber Posted: September 27, 2005 at 04:39 PM (#1646504)
Sad thing is, the Sox choices from the right side aren't great. And Guillen hasn't exactly been using the bench a whole lot the last two weeks.

The more pertinent question is what the #### A.J. is doing in the 3 hole. Of course, in a lineup of Konerko and a bunch of 6 or 7 hole hitters, the options aren't terrific.
   10. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: September 27, 2005 at 04:47 PM (#1646536)

It gets even worse tonight. The only player other than Konerko who's hitting consistently this month, Joe Crede, is not in the lineup because his wife is having a baby. Pablo Freakin' Ozuna at 3B. #### Me!
   11. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 04:56 PM (#1646576)
I guess 9 months ago, Crede assumed like most of us that this time of the season wouldn't be too important.

McCarthy is going to have to be on his A game. Unless maybe Robertson is a lefty Joe Mays.
   12. VG Posted: September 27, 2005 at 05:00 PM (#1646591)
Not that he's any great shakes, but did Geoff Blum do whatever it is that Ross Gload did? It's like Blum disappeared.
   13. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: September 27, 2005 at 05:04 PM (#1646609)
Blum was pretty terrible in the limitted playing time he did recieve.
   14. Urban Faber Posted: September 27, 2005 at 05:25 PM (#1646657)
I started to try and figure out the playoff roster, then realized they're not in yet. But I think Gload might end up with Blum's spot.
   15. VG Posted: September 27, 2005 at 05:29 PM (#1646666)
I suppose I shouldn't have worded it in a way that implied that Blum was as deserving of playing time as Gload, because that's not remotely the case.

I am surprised that Blum has been in just one game since two days after Crede returned from the DL (when Konerko sat out with back soreness). I would expect Blum to pinch hit occasionally. I would have preferred to see him up against Walker last night than Vinton™.
   16. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: September 27, 2005 at 05:29 PM (#1646667)
When Jack Keefe mentioned Mr. Bloom yelling "Let's rip their lungs out!" (which was very unlike him Al), that was the first time I had even thought of him in weeks.

We're gonna have to start calling Sean "McPoopypants."
   18. VG Posted: September 27, 2005 at 06:03 PM (#1646761)
Rowand in the No. 3 slot, the Widge™ starts against the lefty Robertson -- too bad that platoon thing didn't occur to Guillen last night (except when Cotts had his one pitch outing):

No. White Sox Detroit
1 Scott Podsednik, LF Curtis Granderson, CF
2 Tadahito Iguchi, 2B Carlos Guillen, SS
3 Aaron Rowand, CF Chris Shelton, 1B
4 Paul Konerko, 1B Magglio Ordonez, RF
5 Jermaine Dye, RF Carlos Pena, DH
6 Carl Everett, DH Craig Monroe, LF
7 Pablo Ozuna, 3B Brandon Inge, 3B
8 Chris Widger, C Vance Wilson, C
9 Juan Uribe, SS Omar Infante, 2B</pre>

I'm going to try to be in Chatter, but my laptop hasn't been picking up my Wi-Fi signals very well of late. I think I need to have my cable modem provider out for a look.
   20. retro-shiite Posted: September 27, 2005 at 06:05 PM (#1646770)
Hey, Guillen's batting second. How exciting.
   21. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: September 27, 2005 at 06:11 PM (#1646779)
too bad that platoon thing didn’t occur to Guillen last night (except when Cotts had his one pitch outing):

I'm glad I wasn't around for that. I think Kevin F. Walker averaged more batters per outing than Belleville's Rose™ has lately.

I'm going to be a latecomer to this game as well, if it's worth tuning into when I get back.
   22. Buddha Posted: September 27, 2005 at 06:15 PM (#1646787)
You'd barely even know the Tigers are playing if you were in Detroit.

Everyone is focused on how bad the Lions suck and the MSU-UM game this weekend.

I like how Granderson wins the game with a home run and then only about 1/2 the team comes out to party at home plate.

No Polanco tonight. Good news for the Sox.
   23. Eraser-X is dominating this site! Posted: September 27, 2005 at 06:21 PM (#1646796)
McNally's just snarky because his team might still miss the playoffs.
   24. Urban Faber Posted: September 27, 2005 at 06:49 PM (#1646850)
If the Sox lose tonight, the ledge will indeed be mighty crowded.
   25. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:09 PM (#1646891)
7 whole pitches. That's our Sox.
   26. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:09 PM (#1646894)
Yep, the Kid's gonna need to throw a shutout. That may not be enough either. I think the Sox could match the Orioles and their negative run production.
   27. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:12 PM (#1646904)
Jeter homered for the Yanks to lead off the game. The O's should be contracted.
   28. Buddha Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:15 PM (#1646908)
Dear Tigers,

For all that is good in this world. For puppy dogs and flowers and sunshine and Jessica Simpson in that Dukes of Hazzard video (not necessarily in that order), please beat the evil that is the White Sox.

Love,

Buddha.

I'm off to Tweet for dinner. Maybe I'll venture over to Big Chicks after dinner to see the score? Nothing like hanging out with a bunch of lesbians rooting against the Sox...
   29. VG Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:16 PM (#1646912)
"Rowand broke in, now races back..." is starting to become like "past a diving Jeter," although he tracked that one down, if a bit awkwardly.
   30. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:16 PM (#1646913)
Yeah, for all the Sox collapse talks, there sure isn't much mention of the Orioles absolutley mailing it in the entire second half.
   31. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:18 PM (#1646922)
Rays up 1-0 on Indians, but they left 2 in scoring position with 1 out.
   32. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:19 PM (#1646927)
For god's sake, why is Dye bunting?
   33. Urban Faber Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:20 PM (#1646932)
I know what you mean, but I'm mentioning it every chance I get, Cheat. Hard to believe they were in first place for quite a while.
   34. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:21 PM (#1646937)
bunting is what got us here, and we're not going to switch from what got us here.

Everett is useless when he's not getting HBP.
   35. VG Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:21 PM (#1646938)
I hate you, Jurassic.
   36. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:21 PM (#1646939)
It's nice to see Carl can't come close from either side of the plate. I hate that ######.
   37. Joe Cowley's #1 MVP choice Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:24 PM (#1646946)
Gload and Borchard both represent major upgrades over Crazy Carl at this point.
   38. Urban Faber Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:24 PM (#1646947)
Letting the pitcher bat might represent an upgrade at this point.
   39. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:26 PM (#1646953)
Our lineup has 6 players with an OPS under .740.

After sitting out all 4 games with the Indians, Sweeney was back in the KC lineup last night. He played the games before the Indians series too.
   40. CWS Keith Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:26 PM (#1646955)
I never thought I'd say it, but inserting Raul Casanova tonight at DH would be a huge improvement.
   41. Urban Faber Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:27 PM (#1646958)
I think Sweeney was on deck when Sizemore dropped the ball - but he probably wouldn't have batted if Grady had caught it as first base was open.
   42. VG Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:28 PM (#1646962)
All three outs on hard-hit balls. Not good.
   43. Joe Cowley's #1 MVP choice Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:29 PM (#1646968)
At least they were outs Vince. I wouldn't be too worried at this point because of his recent track record.
   44. Urban Faber Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:31 PM (#1646980)
Jon Rauch drives in a run for the Nats. Should have kept him for his bat.
   45. VG Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:31 PM (#1646982)
Robertson's last five starts: 0-5, 8.07 ERA.

Let's hope that guy shows up soon.

Nice flail, Pods.
   46. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:32 PM (#1646983)
O's scored 2 somehow, up 2-1 after 1
   47. VG Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:36 PM (#1646996)
Omar ####### Infante. God damnit.
   48. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:36 PM (#1647000)
Jesus, Infante kills us. The guy is awful.
   49. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:38 PM (#1647008)
8 of his 26 career HR have been vs the Sox.

TB left 2 on again in the 2nd.

Game over?
   51. VG Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:41 PM (#1647018)
8 of his 26 career HR have been vs the Sox.

One of those rare times when my gut feeling about a crappy player killing the Sox turns out to be so true.

Alright, Emperor™.

####.
   53. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:43 PM (#1647032)
Tomorrow, Timo bats in the 3 hole. Rowand is wearing thin on me quickly.
   54. Urban Faber Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:46 PM (#1647045)
Pitching around Dye there, clearly.
   55. VG Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:46 PM (#1647046)
Jurassic, I hate you, but please make Robertson pay.
   56. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:46 PM (#1647049)
And who better to come to the plate with 2 on and 2 out than Jurassic?
   57. VG Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:48 PM (#1647055)
I hate you, Jurassic.
   58. Urban Faber Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:48 PM (#1647056)
He really hit the ball hard, didn't he?
   59. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:48 PM (#1647059)
#### off Carl. We're playing like a team just playing out the string. This game is on a 2 hour pace. The Indians are still in the 2nd.
   60. CWS Keith Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:49 PM (#1647061)
I swear, if Carl is DHing, tomorrow, Ozzie needs to be slapped.

####### three walks, and we get NOTHING.
   61. VG Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:49 PM (#1647062)
Must be that big, heavy bat Jurassic swings, Red.
   62. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:51 PM (#1647071)
Kazmir's walked the bases loaded with 2 outs. Sizemore coming up.
   63. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:52 PM (#1647075)
Wait, Blake up.
   64. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:53 PM (#1647085)
Blake flew out to the warning track.

The Sox game is now on a 1:45 pace.
   65. VG Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:53 PM (#1647087)
Sizemore flied out, inning over.
   66. Urban Faber Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:54 PM (#1647091)
I predict the Sox will back into a playoff spot on Thursday - a day that Jason Grilli shuts them out on four hits.
   67. VG Posted: September 27, 2005 at 07:55 PM (#1647096)
OK, maybe it was Blake. :)

Secret Weapon™ almost blew that. Thank you, Infante, for the crappy throw.

¡Vámonos, Juan!

C'mon Uribe.

Boston up 3-0 and Baltimore leads the Yankees 4-1.

our first hit w/ RISP this series!!!
   72. VG Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:01 PM (#1647128)
¡Excelente!
   73. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:02 PM (#1647135)
That's how you fight back from 0-2! Go Pods too!

Yanks down 5-1, Red Sox up 3-0
   74. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:04 PM (#1647144)
Aaron is a giant ball of suck.
   75. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:04 PM (#1647147)
But you still suck Aaron.
   76. VG Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:04 PM (#1647148)
Rowand sucks right now.
   77. Urban Faber Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:04 PM (#1647151)
I think I have a copy of "Weaver On Strategy" ... maybe Ozzie can read it, or have it read to him, or something.

That looked like a change that Monroe hit. ####.
   82. Urban Faber Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:09 PM (#1647172)

McCarthy is not fooling anyone.
   84. VG Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:10 PM (#1647179)
Farmer wants Infante dusted for flipping the bat after his home run.
   85. Joe Cowley's #1 MVP choice Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:11 PM (#1647182)
Seriously Red. It seems like they give up a run and we're way in the cellar. Our run scoring ability is just freakin pathetic.
   86. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:11 PM (#1647183)
McCarthy has not been sharp today. Even the outs have been hit hard.
   87. Urban Faber Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:13 PM (#1647192)
Maybe so, but I'll still take his outing through five. Too bad people have to pitch a ####### shutout to have a chance with this sorry-ass lineup.
   88. Joe Cowley's #1 MVP choice Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:14 PM (#1647195)
We're working on the 8th consecutive game in which the White Sox have not scored multiple runs in an inning which did not include a HR. The 4 run comeback against Cleveland was the very last time that happened. The inability to sustain any sort of rally is what might kill this team and what has troubling it of late.
   89. Bull Pain Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:17 PM (#1647202)
2 batters and the Yanks have 2 runs. 5-3 now and just the 3rd inning.

Memo to White Sox hitters: Robertson throws and inside fastball to righties with 2 strikes. -- Last time we saw him he got 6 K's looking this way. LEARN SOMETHING!

Pinch hit! Pinch hit!
   92. Joe Cowley's #1 MVP choice Posted: September 27, 2005 at 08:18 PM (#1647214)
Dye is being pitched like Barry Bonds with Everett behind him.

At least TB has taken a 4-0 lead.

Second and third, one out, Lugo up (top of the order, IOW) in the top of the fourth in Cleveland.

3-run jack for Julio Lugo!

4-0 Rays

Sorry for the double post.

Lugo!
