CHW (33-17) at CLE (24-26) - 7:05 PM EDT

CHW: Buehrle (6-2, 2.62 ERA)
CLE: Sabathia (4-1, 1.52 ERA)

Save for his shortened opening day, Sabathia’s been great this season.

Buehrle has never earned a 'W' in a game where he started opposite Captain Cheeseburger.
   2. Cowboy Popup Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:04 PM (#2044341)
Would you (whoever you is) rather have Sabathia or Buerhle?
   3. Lou Potent Potables (Dan Lee) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:18 PM (#2044366)
I'd probably rather have Buehrle, based solely on Captain Cheeseburger's litany of minor injuries.
   4. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:40 PM (#2044422)
That was a helluva swing by Marlon.
   5. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:43 PM (#2044430)
Nice to see TGAH contributing, even if it was on a bad bunt and worse play.
   6. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:44 PM (#2044438)
And the Secret Weapon delivers. Casey Blake's got a nice arm.
   7. Bee Bee Richard, Guante de la Piedra Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:44 PM (#2044439)
I hope the Secret Weapon is okay.
   8. Tony H. Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:45 PM (#2044441)
this freaking team. come on.
   9. Lou Potent Potables (Dan Lee) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:47 PM (#2044448)
Exasperated doesn't even begin to describe how I feel about this team right now.
   10. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:49 PM (#2044455)
Good walk by Thome after being down 0-2. Or as Erin Andrews would say, "To-MAY."
   11. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:54 PM (#2044480)
Wasted opportunity after that botched Iguchi bunt.
   12. Bee Bee Richard, Guante de la Piedra Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:57 PM (#2044495)
Bad defensive play. Dye had no chance to catch that; he had to keep it in front of him.
   13. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:58 PM (#2044500)
Uh oh. Another Buehrle post-defensive lapse meltdown.
   14. JH (in DC) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:58 PM (#2044505)
Boone's playing tonight after that nasty fall? I figured that would put him out for 15 days and force the Indians to call up Marte.
   15. Tony H. Posted: May 30, 2006 at 07:59 PM (#2044508)
Boone's playing tonight after that nasty fall? I figured that would put him out for 15 days and force the Indians to call up Marte.

we aren't that lucky.
   16. Tony H. Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:00 PM (#2044513)
although to be honest marte isn't hitting well at all in buffalo.
   17. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:01 PM (#2044517)
Nice tag, Konerko.
   18. Tony H. Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:02 PM (#2044525)
thataboy jhoninho. i am much more optimistic.
   19. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:03 PM (#2044527)
Yeah.
   20. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:03 PM (#2044528)
Uh oh. Another Buehrle post-defensive lapse meltdown.

yep. And worse Konerko being asleep cost them an extra run.
   21. Tony H. Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:04 PM (#2044535)
does anyone have pronk's career #'s against buehrle? they must be amazing. it seems like ever since the pitch to the face he has crushed him.
   22. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:06 PM (#2044542)
Buehrle's used to these runs being unearned.
   23. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:07 PM (#2044550)
Hafner vs. Buehrle: 7-30, 2 HR.
   24. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:08 PM (#2044553)
Buehrle's used to these runs being unearned.

He's pitching like, in his mind, they are. Hawk and DJ have been talking as if they were unearned. But Boone earned his way on. These will all be earned.
   25. Tony H. Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:09 PM (#2044554)
ok, those are not near as impressive as i though. thanks.
   26. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:11 PM (#2044569)
I was surprised by them too, Tony.
   27. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:13 PM (#2044576)
Sutcliffe: "When (Crede's) injured, he puts up big, big numbers."

Funny that it took him an injury to right his career. Sut needs to drink more.
   28. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:14 PM (#2044578)
Sutcliffe said "When (Crede's) healthy," not injured. Maybe I need to drink more, too.
   29. Tony H. Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:16 PM (#2044584)
Parity sucks. Why does everybody talk like it's some holy thing?
   30. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:17 PM (#2044586)
Frickin' Uribe! Now the pitcher's spot leads off next inning.
   31. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:18 PM (#2044590)
I support a salary floor.
   32. JH (in DC) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:22 PM (#2044604)
Am I the only one stuck with this awful HR-Sutcliffe conversation on the draft, parity, etc.?
   33. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:22 PM (#2044605)
Wait, now they're talking about trading draft picks? I like when ESPN discusses in a lengthy fashion things related to the players on the field (like Buehrle vs. Sabathia). But they ruined Opening Day with using 1/3 of the pre-rain delay airtime to discuss steroids, and now this garbage.
   34. Tony H. Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:22 PM (#2044607)
no. it's brutal indeed.
   35. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:25 PM (#2044616)
George Clooney!
   36. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:25 PM (#2044617)
Mark, these runs are going to be earned!
   37. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:26 PM (#2044619)
Pablo is far worse than Ross Gload ever was in the outfield.
   38. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:26 PM (#2044620)
I scared some sense into him.
   39. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:30 PM (#2044632)
He swung at two decent pitches. Timing's just off.
   40. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:30 PM (#2044633)
shoulda bunted I guess
   41. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:32 PM (#2044638)
Roger Clemens! You been reading about all that, you been seeing that?"
   42. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:34 PM (#2044645)
Now ESPN is talking about Capt. Cheeseburger's participation with the Boys & Girls Club. It's not particularly smooth dialogue, but it's pertinent to people involved in this game.

How the hell did Iguchi put that pitch in the air?
   43. JH (in DC) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:34 PM (#2044646)
Roger Clemens! You been reading about all that, you been seeing that?"

These jokes aren't going to stop being funny for a long time.
   44. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:41 PM (#2044670)
Bah. The good news is that Sabathia might be gone after the next inning if they don't go up hacking.
   45. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:44 PM (#2044683)
Buehrle pitched Hafner beautifully there.

I'm going to guess Erin Andrews is from upstate NY. Let's see if I'm right.
   46. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:46 PM (#2044685)
Wikiepedia says she was born in Boston. The accent says otherwise.
   47. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:48 PM (#2044692)
Accent give it away, PH?
   48. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:51 PM (#2044703)
She's got the Rachel Ray, pinch-the-hell-out-of-long-vowels thing going, and Ray got her start doing demonstrations at one of the supermarkets around here.
   49. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:53 PM (#2044706)
My favorite accent is the one set by the boundaries of the Mississippi River to the East, the 43rd Parallel to the south, the Missouri river to the west, and the Great White North. The funniest part about those boundaries is that the accents on each side of the imaginary one, the 43rd, are the most distinct.
   50. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:54 PM (#2044713)
Cooter's hit the ball hard all three times tonight.
   51. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:57 PM (#2044722)
What is that accent? Because it's said Omahans speak accentless English, and that's just on the other side of the Missouri.

Hope we can take advantage of bad Cleveland D again. But we're gonna need a Hero.
   52. Bee Bee Richard, Guante de la Piedra Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:57 PM (#2044723)
How come Buehrle's been involved in so many defensive boondoggles lately?
   53. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 08:59 PM (#2044729)
Sabathia's in line for the win!

Why do people Woo! when the camera is on them?
   54. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:00 PM (#2044733)
Buehrle led the league in unearned runs last year. He seems to break down if the defense fails him, and it's his one flaw as a pitcher.
   55. Bee Bee Richard, Guante de la Piedra Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:01 PM (#2044737)
Why do people Woo! when the camera is on them?
Because they're morons?
   56. too fat and ugly to play third Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:01 PM (#2044738)
Now that Frank's gone, Credebutt's been in the organization longer than any other player.
   57. Bee Bee Richard, Guante de la Piedra Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:03 PM (#2044739)
I just noticed: the Secret Weapon is doing the slightly sideways hat thing.
   58. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:03 PM (#2044740)
Hooray, Pablo! No flaws in footwork or otherwise in making that catch.

The ESPN PBP guy just said "Belliard and Boone, Cleveland's version of the Killer B's."
   59. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:03 PM (#2044741)
Omaha is a good hour plus drive south of the 43rd. I'd call it the not-quote-canadian accent. It sort of eminates from Minnesota, though is generally rejected by the cheeseheads.
   60. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:04 PM (#2044743)
And as you can see, the ESPN PBP guy was absolutely right.

Mark! Earned run on second!
   61. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:06 PM (#2044749)
Earned run on third, Mark!
   62. Bee Bee Richard, Guante de la Piedra Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:07 PM (#2044750)

   64. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:08 PM (#2044753)
Oh, okay, I know that accent. I hear tinges of that in Vermont, but the nasalness overpowers it.
   65. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:10 PM (#2044759)
Pods should be batting now.
   66. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:11 PM (#2044762)
And take out Ozuna's glove? No thanks.
   67. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:11 PM (#2044766)
I hope we see Sauerbeck pull a Eugene Robinson.
   68. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:13 PM (#2044772)
I hope we see Sizemore pull a Kerry Robinson.
   69. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:15 PM (#2044777)
Joe West made sure Cabrera intentionally walked Thome there.
   70. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:17 PM (#2044787)
Cliff Politte in. Game about to be out of reach.
   71. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:19 PM (#2044792)
I predict a Peralta double, Hafner walk, and a Perez homer.
   72. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:19 PM (#2044797)
And by "Perez" I mean "Martinez."
   73. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:21 PM (#2044802)
Another close game nullified by a Politte appearance.
   74. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:21 PM (#2044803)
Say what you want about Cliff, but at least he lives up to our expectations.
   75. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:23 PM (#2044805)
Thornton blew away Hafner in their only meeting during the opener. So of course Ozzie put Boone Logan in the next time he needed a lefty.
   76. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:26 PM (#2044815)
well that was interesting.
   77. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:26 PM (#2044817)
So far, so good.
   78. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:29 PM (#2044822)
Politte owes Thornton dinner.
   79. Bee Bee Richard, Guante de la Piedra Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:29 PM (#2044823)
Nice job by Thornton.
   80. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:30 PM (#2044827)
And with that, I think you start using Thornton, regardless of the opponent's handedness, in higher leverage situations than Mr. Politte.
   81. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:37 PM (#2044835)
I guess Widger felt like he didn't have a chance after that first fastball and decided to get it over as quickly as possible.
   82. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:40 PM (#2044848)
Widger has made a couple nice defensive plays tonight.
   83. Bee Bee Richard, Guante de la Piedra Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:42 PM (#2044852)
Ol' Bob "Four and a Half Fingers" Wickman coming in.
   84. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:42 PM (#2044853)
Nice job by Thorndog. Huge double play, more so because Sutcliffe was gearing up to praise Derek Jeter's inclination to bunt on his own.
   85. Bee Bee Richard, Guante de la Piedra Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:44 PM (#2044858)
Huge double play, more so because Sutcliffe was gearing up to praise Derek Jeter's inclination to bunt on his own.
You certainly wouldn't want an inning on an ESPN game to go by without a reference to the Yankees, the Red Sox, or the Yankees vs. Red Sox, would you?
   86. Don Guillote (The Cheat) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:44 PM (#2044859)
I'd go with three pinch hitters. Cintron, Mack, Pods
   87. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:45 PM (#2044863)
Pods, Cintron, Mack. The second wave.
   88. Bee Bee Richard, Guante de la Piedra Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:47 PM (#2044869)
Nice AB by Pods.
   89. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:47 PM (#2044870)
Good eye, Pods!
   90. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:48 PM (#2044876)
Terrible AB by Cintron.
   91. Bee Bee Richard, Guante de la Piedra Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:48 PM (#2044878)
Why was Cintron first-pitch hacking?
   92. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:50 PM (#2044881)
Makes up for it there, somewhat. Would've been nice to let Pods steal and then let Cintron try to get him over to third.
   93. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:51 PM (#2044884)
Damn. You'd think Mack would be looking for that one.

C'mon, Emperor.
   94. Pastor Toastman (PH) Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:52 PM (#2044886)
Nope. Wasted opportunities there.
   95. Bee Bee Richard, Guante de la Piedra Posted: May 30, 2006 at 09:52 PM (#2044887)
