My fantasy league team's era is 4.5, which sucks so bad. El Duke needs to do something to move that number south.
   2. Fat Al Posted: June 19, 2006 at 02:40 PM (#2068630)
If you're counting on El Duque to move that number in the right direction, I'm not surprised your team has an ERA of 4.50.
   3. Free Rob Base Posted: June 19, 2006 at 03:21 PM (#2068678)
B-Pro has the Mets chances of winning the division at around 97%. Sounds reasonable given the competition. Should the Mets sit still and coast into the playoffs -- or try and make an upgrade at 2b and/or in the starting rotation that will help come playoff time. That seems to be the big question facing Minaya.
   4. 44magnum Posted: June 19, 2006 at 03:42 PM (#2068706)
The Reds pounded Hernandez back in early May when he was still with AZ. He allowed (Aquino gave up 3 run double to Encarnacion relieving El Duque with bases loaded) 8 loud runs.

Mike Burns, in his 3rd stint w/the Reds this year, has put up some impressive numbers:

11.1 inn 28 hits 13 runs 2 hr 10.32 era 2.74 whip .491 opp avg

Wright, Floyd and LoDuca bar pictures from Deadspin

I don't have a real reason for posting this. But enjoy.
   6. Joshemy Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:13 PM (#2068856)
Ryan Freel seems like a nice little player.
   7. AJM Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:13 PM (#2068859)
Lo Duca finally has a good throw and the guy is still safe.
   8. Banta Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:14 PM (#2068860)
Haha, the Mets fans at Shea are STILL booing Griffey.
   9. Joshemy Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:15 PM (#2068862)
Well, this isn't a good start for Dookie.
   10. Russlan wants Pedro to be a Met again Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:16 PM (#2068864)
Seriously, it is too bad that the Mets don't have a prototypical option for a number two hitter other than Lo Duca. Castro is so much better than he is.
   11. Joshemy Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:17 PM (#2068867)
Whiffey!
   12. Bob Koo Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:21 PM (#2068875)
Great job by El Duque!
   13. AJM Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:22 PM (#2068877)
DP, nice.
   14. Banta Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:22 PM (#2068878)
Good way to work outta that, El Duque!
   15. Joshemy Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:22 PM (#2068879)
DP!
   16. AJM Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:24 PM (#2068884)
That should've been a triple, damn ball boy!
   17. Bob Koo Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:24 PM (#2068885)
I'm lovin' Reyes' hitting these days.
   18. Russlan wants Pedro to be a Met again Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:24 PM (#2068886)
Reyes is awesome.
   19. AJM Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:25 PM (#2068887)
I hate first inning bunts.
   20. Bob Koo Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:25 PM (#2068888)
I'm hatin' the Lo Duca bunt. Why play for one run in the first inning?
   21. Russlan wants Pedro to be a Met again Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:26 PM (#2068889)
Is it really necessaary to bunt Reyes over in that situation? It's still early in the game.
   22. Joshemy Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:26 PM (#2068890)
Small ball.
   23. Chris Dial Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:27 PM (#2068891)
Run scores. That works.
   24. Dinner With Frenchy Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:29 PM (#2068899)
I'm hatin' the Lo Duca bunt. Why play for one run in the first inning?
Castro really needs to see more games... one can argue he should be the starting catcher.
   25. Chris Dial Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:30 PM (#2068900)
Kearns is absolutely one of my favorite players.
   26. Dinner With Frenchy Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:33 PM (#2068904)
Kearns is absolutely one of my favorite players.
Can a favorite player be any more nondescript? It's not a rhetorical question.
   27. Joshemy Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:35 PM (#2068905)
I have a feeling with the El Duque-LoDuca battery, the Reds will be running a lot tonight.
   28. AJM Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:36 PM (#2068906)
Dammit.
   29. Russlan wants Pedro to be a Met again Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:38 PM (#2068909)
Phillips is funny.
   30. Greg Maddux School of Reflexive Profanity Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:38 PM (#2068910)
Someone explain how that constitutes "a bad attitude."
   31. Joshemy Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:39 PM (#2068911)
Beautiful play El Duque!
   32. AJM Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:39 PM (#2068912)
Uh, what did Phillips do, Gary?
   33. Russlan wants Pedro to be a Met again Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:40 PM (#2068914)
And here I thought that the Indians let Phillips go because he had a career .546 OPS and was out of options.
   34. Joshemy Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:42 PM (#2068917)
Stache!
   35. Bob Koo Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:42 PM (#2068918)
Seems like Valentin is either good for a double, pop out, or a K.
   36. AJM Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:42 PM (#2068919)
Stache!
   37. Banta Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:45 PM (#2068920)
Nady's right back to where he left off.
   38. Bob Koo Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:45 PM (#2068921)
Good to see that Nady is healthy and has resumed his chasing of low-and-outside breaking balls.
   39. Joshemy Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:49 PM (#2068925)
At least Duque is making Arroyo throw some pitches.
   40. Russlan wants Pedro to be a Met again Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:54 PM (#2068932)
The best thing about Duque making an out is that Reyes gets to lead off. Would Milledge/Endy have made that play? What isn't Endy playing right anyway?
   41. Joshemy Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:55 PM (#2068936)
Whiffey again!
   42. Russlan wants Pedro to be a Met again Posted: June 19, 2006 at 06:59 PM (#2068941)
Reyes' OPS is at .783 right now. He might be the best shortstop in the NL already.
   43. Dinner With Frenchy Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:01 PM (#2068947)
He might be the best shortstop in the NL already.
Felipe Lopez, Edgar Renteria and Hanley Ramirez are pretty good, yeah?
   44. Russlan wants Pedro to be a Met again Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:09 PM (#2068953)
Hanley has a lower OPS despite an unusually high BABIP. He ranks 4th worst in the NL in ZR.

Lopez has a lower OPS and ranks last in the NL in ZR.

Renteria is hitting great but ranks 2nd last in ZR. Reyes is a much better baserunner as well.

The best SS in the league has actually been Vizquel. He's been fantastic.
   45. AJM Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:11 PM (#2068955)
Felipe Lopez, Edgar Renteria and Hanley Ramirez are pretty good, yeah?

Lopez is pretty bad on D. And Ramirez? I'd have a hard giving a 22 year old with less than half a year in the majors title of "best SS in the NL". Reyes has a higher OPS than either of them BTW.

Oh, and you forgot to name the guy who has been the best SS so far this year, Bill Hall.
   46. Sam M. Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:11 PM (#2068956)
The best SS in the league has actually been Vizquel. He's been fantastic.

And no one in their right mind would rather have Vizquel than Reyes, given that Vizquel is 93 years old.
   47. Dinner With Frenchy Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:13 PM (#2068964)
Oh, and you forgot to name the guy who has been the best SS so far this year, Bill Hall.
He's more a utility guy, filling in at short because JJ Hardy is hurt, but your point is well made.
   48. Sam M. Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:14 PM (#2068965)
Beautiful pitch to K Ross. El Duque is growing on me. A full season of this, and I might actually only mildly dislike him.
   49. AJM Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:15 PM (#2068970)
Nice pitch by El Duque.
   50. Dinner With Frenchy Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:16 PM (#2068971)
Reyes' isolated slugging and discipline have shown a very nice uptick. Many scouts called Jose a breakout candidate this year, and he seems to be fulfilling those expectations.
   51. Sam M. Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:18 PM (#2068975)
Frigging Kearns. Good piece of hitting by Wright, anyway.
   52. Russlan wants Pedro to be a Met again Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:24 PM (#2068981)
I can't believe I forgot about Hall. I love that guy's game.
   53. AJM Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:26 PM (#2068985)
Great inning.
   54. Joshemy Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:26 PM (#2068986)
El Duque is fun to watch when he has his stuff working.
   55. AJM Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:29 PM (#2068992)
This is the only series where I'm rooting for the Yankees. And I'm not rooting that hard.
   56. Sam M. Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:31 PM (#2068996)
Jose just missed that pitch.
   57. Bob Koo Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:32 PM (#2068998)
Lo Duca is a bad hitter.
   58. Joshemy Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:32 PM (#2068999)
Good work after that lead-off single boys.
   59. Russlan wants Pedro to be a Met again Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:35 PM (#2069002)
You know what's bad? Lo Duca has a .704 OPS right now and this is supposed to be his good half of the season.
   60. Joshemy Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:36 PM (#2069003)
No Whiffey that time.
   61. AJM Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:37 PM (#2069005)
Well that was crushed.
   62. Banta Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:38 PM (#2069006)
Lo Duca has a .704 OPS right now and this is supposed to be his good half of the season.

I guess that's the really bad part about LoDuca. Even when he's going well, he's only a bad week away from being completely worthless.
   63. Chris Dial Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:41 PM (#2069012)
I called that HR. When he got two K's I said Duque was going to go to the well one too often.

there's a reason Griffey is one of the all time greats.
   64. Sam M. Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:42 PM (#2069013)
BTW, did anyone notice that Reyes (+80,000), Wright (+200,000), Beltran (+100,000 on 4th place), and Lo Duca (+280,000) ALL now lead their respective positions for the ASG? Quite a surge for Mets' players in the latest round of voting.
   65. Russlan wants Pedro to be a Met again Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:45 PM (#2069022)
Lo Duca starting the ASG is a travshamockery. I think Vizquel deserves it more than Reyes. Beltran and Wright deserve to start.
   66. AJM Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:47 PM (#2069026)
Lo Duca (+280,000)

Boo! Everyone start voting for Piazza!
   67. Russlan wants Pedro to be a Met again Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:47 PM (#2069027)
That was an awful inning.
   68. Sam M. Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:47 PM (#2069028)
I think Vizquel deserves it more than Reyes.

I've been voting for Reyes. Proudly. The ASG is a show; Reyes puts on a more exciting show. Plus, I'm biased. Sue me.
   69. Banta Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:49 PM (#2069030)
The ASG is a show

A show that COUNTS!
   70. Vaux, A.B.D. Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:51 PM (#2069037)
So the Reds can't beat the White Sox, but they're going to beat the Mets. Thanks a lot, Reds.
   71. AJM Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:51 PM (#2069039)
I've been voting for Reyes.

Me too. Well, I haven't voted yet, but my bias will have me voting for Delgado, Reyes, Wright, Beltran, and Piazza. And I'll write in The Stache at second base.
   72. Sam M. Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:54 PM (#2069042)
And I'll write in The Stache at second base.

I'm not that biased, not in a league that includes Chase Utley and Dan Uggla.
   73. Sam M. Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:56 PM (#2069046)
I'm so used to Endy Chavez catching balls like that, I was kind of stunned to realize it was Nady out there and realizing that ball was going to drop. Sigh.
   74. Chris Dial Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:56 PM (#2069048)
Dear Willie,
GET DUQUE OUT OF THERE!!!!
   75. Banta Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:57 PM (#2069049)
Willie absolutely hates pulling a starter in the middle of an inning. It makes him feel like a bad guy.
   76. Sam M. Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:57 PM (#2069050)
Feliciano SHOULD BE IN HERE NOW.
   77. AJM Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:58 PM (#2069052)
I'm not that biased, not in a league that includes Chase Utley and Dan Uggla.

I don't care about either of those guys. Or any other second baseman in the NL.
   78. Bob Koo Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:59 PM (#2069055)
Willie lucks out there.
   79. AJM Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:59 PM (#2069056)
Yeah!

Let's tie it up!
   80. Sam M. Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:59 PM (#2069057)
Randolph got very lucky making the wrong move there. But it worked.
   81. Banta Posted: June 19, 2006 at 07:59 PM (#2069058)
Another nice job from El Duque. He's been pretty much Pedro since he got here.
   82. Joshemy Posted: June 19, 2006 at 08:00 PM (#2069060)
Dookie!

Good work from El Duque tonight. Now the offense needs to give us a few runs.
   83. Chris Dial Posted: June 19, 2006 at 08:00 PM (#2069062)
Whew.
   84. Russlan wants Pedro to be a Met again Posted: June 19, 2006 at 08:02 PM (#2069063)
Duque has a 4.03 ERA as a Met.
   85. Chris Dial Posted: June 19, 2006 at 08:02 PM (#2069064)
It was a good effort from Duque. I knew those two strikeouts of Griffey would mean a HR later if he tried the same stuff.
   86. Bob Koo Posted: June 19, 2006 at 08:04 PM (#2069069)
Nady hasn't even played two full hours since his return, and I'm already agitated with his play.
   87. Banta Posted: June 19, 2006 at 08:05 PM (#2069071)
Duque has a 4.03 ERA as a Met.

Hm, I thought that it was a bit better than that. Not that there's anything wrong with that. At all.
   88. Chris Dial Posted: June 19, 2006 at 08:06 PM (#2069074)
Yes, who wouldn't rather have Milledge up when Nady bats? Puke.
   89. Chris Dial Posted: June 19, 2006 at 08:08 PM (#2069076)
I suspect Willie didn't double-switch which is an error.
   90. Chris Dial Posted: June 19, 2006 at 08:09 PM (#2069078)
Feliciano is pretty good vs RHBs. He's not a LOOGY.
   91. Bob Koo Posted: June 19, 2006 at 08:10 PM (#2069081)
Wright should have had that, I think.
   92. Chris Dial Posted: June 19, 2006 at 08:10 PM (#2069082)
Wow, Wright isn't slick with the glove - that would have been a DP with many 3Bs.
   93. Raskolnikov Posted: June 19, 2006 at 08:11 PM (#2069083)
Hope that Bradford is warming up.
   94. Russlan wants Pedro to be a Met again Posted: June 19, 2006 at 08:11 PM (#2069084)
That's not an easy play but one a good 3B makes.
   95. AJM Posted: June 19, 2006 at 08:12 PM (#2069086)
He didn't even try to move out of the way.
   96. Chris Dial Posted: June 19, 2006 at 08:12 PM (#2069087)
That went really badly -a broken bat gork, a GB to a weak fielding 3B and a sloppy HBP.

Come on Bradford, generate a K popup or GDP.
   97. Raskolnikov Posted: June 19, 2006 at 08:12 PM (#2069088)
Argh, Feliciano self-destructing here.
   98. Sam M. Posted: June 19, 2006 at 08:13 PM (#2069090)
I think Wright was hurt on that play by the rain & slick field.

Classic case where the ump, in a just world, would NOT have given the batter first base on the HBP . . . .
   99. Raskolnikov Posted: June 19, 2006 at 08:15 PM (#2069095)
Key AB of the ballgame.
